#26 Irish Sonnet

Obviously influenced by the English sonnet there ia also still a Celtic influece in making a link from stanza to stanza.. It still follows the three quaterns and a couplet pattern, but each stanza is linked to the next giving a rhyme pattern of;
a. b. a. b. . b. c. b. c. . c. d. c. d. .d.d.
Here is an example.

Values Change

In the past here, men thought only of gold
Because of their greed children now must pay
The poisons they used, in those days of old
Poisoned the ground, then in turn waterways.
The powers that be turn deaf ears each day
In the meantime the fish build it all up
Scientists test but it's ignored what they say
And this poisoned water the locals also sup.
Mercury and Cyanide adds flavour to the cup
A hundred years of gold mining is too long
One things for sure its a dangerous stuffup.
And the goldminers are stringing us along.
In an interview the minister denies the wrong
I wonder who's paying him to sing that song?

Beginning

A new day begins and Fate switches on the light
Any sound is the seconds ticking away your life
Your mood is what helps you in your fight
Pick up your palette and paint, then your knife.
The scene is set your plan removes any strife
Then realising you'd forgotten "Murphy's Law"
A wild card dedicated to cause all forms of strife
Realising then, he could find the smallest flaw.
Then you also realised "Arse" was also in the draw
And you realised victory was sometimes only arse
The painting now has regained its bright light
Sense tells you that to worry about life's a farce.
So stop worrying, "Good Luck" is never sparse
And all you need in life is bags and bags of arse.

Eternity

Out of a void my love has grown
A cosmic speck, a minute grain
Out of nothing a seed was sown
Finitely created this heavenly domain
Not of wood, nor steel, nor brick or stone
No roof of tile or tin to shelter from all
But a pulsing heart, inside flesh and bone
Made of love, protecting, becoming my thole
A celestial being that has won my soul
From timeless space you have won me
Two separate beings who've made a whole
That time or distance can never free
My life and love I dedicate to thee
Wishing to be with you for all eternity.

-----

Feeling of Love

The feeling never leaves when you love someone
It's with you for eternity when your soul is shared
The parting of a lifetime when your love is gone.
Her spirit looking at you, knowing that you cared
That you'll never meet again is nothing to be feared
Sob gently over her, your tears constantly flowing
Her spirits touch, a spirits kiss, now feel assured
She'll help you meet your fears, you feel her guiding
With each passing day as love is only growing.
It keeps her by your side through passing years
Knowing deeply in her heart that you are loving.
With each passing day, know love will be ever yours
If being together is part of the greater beings cheers
Then we'll be united forever, without any fears.

Just Wait

What of hidden places that are dim and dark
Only rarely will they see any light of day?
Are they any less of Nature than a wildlife park?
Have they a lesser right to have their say?
In spite of mans work Nature has her say.
Man in his arrogance moves the beasts of fear
They always come back when he turns away
They are persistent and return year by year.
What of creatures that thrive when its austere
Creepy crawlies that feed on mans leavings
The little beasts must take lead of the sphere
Even for them Nature has important doings.
Soon there will be a time when Nature wins
See the humble spider and the web she spins.

Kicking the Night

I walk slowly along the suburban street
Kicking the night along in front of me
Carefully avoiding the rises in the concrete
With the poor street lights it's hard to see.
Just watch for where shadows and white meet
I just had to get out and help clear my mind
At least it's swept and there is no debris
Words'd been said, that were unjust and unkind.
There was too much pain, a long, long grind!
But I say that every time and like the fool I am
Commit myself to another plan that'd be kind
I'll learn to find someone that's not a sham
Ignore something else, for once just use a scam
But why search, at my age why give a damn.

-----

Lifted Veils

I have looked up into the stars for a sign
And searched all the lands and the seas.
The answer was in your eyes all the time
Now I know, and your doubt always sees.
Always knowing what I can do to please
A sweet mouth that would seem to call me,
Would not tell me how to put you at ease
Now in a reality that is divine you see.
We have felt minds touch at last so softly
Realising our souls will combine so well
What will happen now that we have a key,
Time and tide, will remove fears shell.
As we slowly climb Eternities stairwell,
And before time's end doubts we'll dispel.

Movie Scene

I had forgotten all about feeling alone,
And had relegated it to just a movie scene.
Now here I am, once again on my own,
A star no longer, now just an old has been.
The stage was lit and we were ready to begin
We took our places, and so the play began.
Lovers meet, making vows, we knew we'd win
Under moonlit stars we played out our plan.
Even the best laid plans can be spoilt by man,
For all too soon one of the lovers has died.
There is no recovery action fate sets that span,
The only comment spoken, "We did our best"
A once strong love leaves an emotional mess,
And so like Bogart, I walk off into darkness.

-----

Rhapsodies

The wind blows and brown autumn leaves fly
Caught in nature's tarantella but they are not alive,
For it is fall and time for some things to die
And only the faeries there dancing will survive
For the wee folk it is their last dance and swive
And they prepare to battle those winter's storms
Silently waiting for the first snows to arrive
As from green, to white their world transforms
Wind tunes will be a cacophony of wild forms
Until spring when Stravinsky will at last apply
And faeries will dance to different platforms
But in time evolving to a much more familiar cry.
So, as green leaves shoot, live and in time die,
Faeries live and dance, keeping a watchful eye.

Spiegal im Spiegal

What greater pleasure in life can there be
Than just sitting watching the setting sun.
The mirror of the birth that we saw earlier
Hours before, we watched as the day begun.
It is not birth, or death, or what was spun,
A cycle of life, which we saw and became alight
When we watched him as the time moved on
Stopping for a while and welcoming his light.
Perhaps we slept whilst he'd gone out of sight
There is no doubt, just how things have run.
Whiled away our days waiting for our night
When we first met, we waited for the moon.
Our vows well created by moonlight's groom
And now we sleep content awaiting the sun!

Unfairness of Time

Hear you this rhyme and its journey
The glorious colour confusion found.
Hear you about time and its cacophony
You cast a rich dark colourful sound
Through pain, and joy, and dark command
Aged eyes see colours now with lesser prime
Looking back wondering where time's found
Parsleys rage and Rosemary's lost time
Regretting indiscretions and anti-social crime
Listening to sirens pretending to be on duty
Like speeding offences escaping by s'mime
And flattering police and using your booty
Now sixty years old and no longer a beauty
You have to compromise with gentle acuity.

-----

Vampire Moon

Mine is not to pursue, nor is it to entice,
Realise puny one a realm exists not of man
Where drinking human blood will suffice
Where life is not measured in your span.
Know you were made only to feed my clan
Hear the subtle beat of our leathered wings
Creatures have heard it since time began
For up here I can see what misery it brings
And see my silhouette against all things.
Too late, you have ventured where I dwell
I have no respect for humans not even kings
I feast on blood, ignoring what they yell
And looking down after I see an empty shell
One more soul is added to the ranks of Hell.

Xmas Has Waved

Christmas has waved her magic wand.
For over a millennia now it has been so
Just one tiny gesture with her soft hand
And it will be the same where e'r you go
Where e'r you go strangers reply and glow
And prepared to go further unprepared
Beyond that normal circle of who they know.
She smiles and asks, yet nothings declared
For once deeply hidden spirits are bared
Resulting in deeds that are un-planned
Releasing happiness that is now shared
And for just a few days people will bond.
On and on to others throughout the land
Christmas has waved her magic wand.

-----

You Are The One

Once again, I kiss you on your lips
Knowing well you cannot feel me
I imagine your fingers lightly touch
Desirous of what reality should be
And we bask in the glow of memory
We cannot feel each other's warmness
Now we dream about what is to be
I know now you've felt my fondness.
Know I'm forever bound to your grandness
Sometimes somehow I feel your aware
Knowing I always feel your loveliness
We talk although you cannot see me there
I know forever I can feel there's no despair
For you're, the one who I still love and care.

Zero Promises

The strong hot wind of summer has gone
With its blasts that set half our world alight
Now to some other world has been drawn
And an early onset of winter we must fight
With teasing clouds that bring cold not light
Each morning to work we face a later day
But with their promise of rain sounds alright.
A winter promise of rain is perhaps a may!
Only of Sou-westers bringing icy blasts pray
And while Antarctica ice expands where laid
We here in her path receive (ha ha) icy spray
No warm Pacific tides with this surfs parade
Whilst up the road snow fields see what's made
That speak of what all the skiers have prayed.

Born as Free

Born from parents with two nationalities
It was all according to where they dwelt
Yet still with Anglo Scottish formalities
It should all boil down to what's heartfelt.
I am by birth Scottish within rights a Celt
But Anglo-Italian cousins I may ever share
With the gift of an accent spoken as felt
Of plucked thistles within thorns that tear.
Beneath purple blooms that speak as fair
That shall be my sign of a familiar token
Shall adorn as a coronet upon silken hair
From silence from family that war's broken.
That circle of my life shall ever be oaken
When silent accents are never spoken.

-----

Lady Unique

She was trying to be a lady for sure
If only she were given half a chance
Could she ever remain just as pure
That all depends upon her stance.
If only she stood just half a chance
And never wear bright red stockings
A lady must stroll and not prance
Thus enticing her admirers to peeking.
Her step should be of gently walking
To be a lady there is much to learn
She shall not be brash within talking
It shall always be achieved in return.
No matter how your instincts yearn
Just do as you may within concern.

-----

Silence In Space

What would happen if earth lost its gravity
A world that we had all once dwelled on
Changing our universe unto pure depravity
That shall change our way of life anon.
The air that we breathe shall soon be gone
There may be nothing as solid to hold there
Somewhere betwixt the dusk and the dawn
When we start walking completely upon air.
Angels watching but no knowledge to share
I suppose we were to them aliens detected
We came from earth to we know not where
Yet to us this should appear no unexpected.
Perhaps we earthlings may ever be rejected
But after all that was only to be expected.

-----

Wiles of a Waif

A child with an over active mind
within imagination she may dream
much amusement of another kind
visions linger within deep esteem.
Within reality so deep in her dream
shapes take place that might seem right
her mystic powers shall e-er redeem
that may casts a magic spell of insight.
She may see all within a dark night
her dream shall all appear and amaze
forming fairy crystals shaded white
a magical outlook of a mystical haze.
Trapped within her vision of a maze
her dream may enter a final phase.
