2016 Poetry Form Challenge

#24 John Tee Sonnet

The John Tee was inspired by the Rondel Prime Sonnet, but realised there was a need for a free verse version and from that concept this form evolved
Like the Italian sonnet it has an octave and a sestet, and like the Prime, the octave starts with a couplet and ends with that couplet repeated
Similarly the Sestet finishes with that couplet repeated again. Here is an example below.

This Bitter Earth

This bitter Earth again weeps with young blood
Innocent women, children, and ideals of good.
Of power crazy fools and the lies they speak
Knowing in the end only the innocent pay.
From above the skies, the Earth looks so green
Whilst down on the ground's a far different scene.

This bitter Earth again weeps with young blood
Innocent women, children, and ideals of good.
Corporations and lunatics deceive and deny
And the media baron encourage that lie.
However, some're aware and prepared to fight
The might of the masses will do what is right.

This bitter Earth again weeps with young blood
Innocent women, children, and ideals of good.

Something To Smile About

We're so happy that Laura Megan's home
Something to smile about, we needed that.
From birth she brought such joy into our lives
When everyone was mired in deep grief
A little girl with starlight in her eyes
Helped to soften the pain of my Dad's death.
We're so happy that Laura Megan's home
Something to smile about, we needed that.
Her law degree complete she has to spend
Six months of internship and then she will
Be called to the bar, a full-fledged lawyer
Our 'baby' is no baby anymore.
We're so happy that Laura Megan's home,
Something to smile about, we needed that

The Review

It will rain sunshine on loves tattoos
Come high noon's music parade review
A sonata was born when our souls collided
Just like the oceans tided the breach
Everyday in every way harmony constructs
The house where butterflies unite...
It will rain sunshine on loves tattoos
Come high noon's music parade review
The key of C was what reconsiled midnight's E
And brought two hearts apart to blend
For blowing in the wind was the duet
Brighid's harp played a major part,
It will rain sunshine on loves tattoos
Come high noon's music parade review.

All I am left with

Now all I am left with is sadness
And the emptiness of you leaving
The redness of my life dripping
Swirling away in the water.
I feel no anger or remorse
Just the feeling of cold within
Now all I am left with is sadness
And the emptiness of you leaving
The redness swirls away slower
There is no pulsing now, just drips
The water is showing less red
As slowly sleep welcomes me
Now all I am left with is sadness
And the emptiness of you leaving.

Amore's Bolero

Picture a slow dance with your head on my shoulder
My arm around your waist resting on your hip
And the music and the mood moves us closer together
You look up at me with your soft opal eyes
Inviting me even more with your soft, wet, red lips.
The music is the bolero of our heartbeats
Picture a slow dance with your head on my shoulder
My arm around your waist resting on your hip
Slowly getting faster, slowly getting louder
Slowly, slowly passion replaces love
Til naught is heard except the beating of two hearts
Wishing then demanding to be as one
Picture a slow dance with your head on my shoulder
My arm around your waist resting on your hip.

Different Paths

Enjoy the mystery that the moon inspires,
And walk down paths you have never trod
Perhaps this will lead you to a path
Where experience will not help you
Then you must take your heart in your hand
And surrender it and risk breaking it
Enjoy the mystery that the moon inspires,
And walk down paths you have never trod
You see before you a complete stranger
Who is your guide along this strange path.
Experience says, "ignore this stranger,
You will break your heart again.
Enjoy the mystery that the moon inspires,
And walk down paths you have never trod.

Finale in the Rain

On drizzling days in the forest of my mind
There is a power in grey, driving rain
Sometimes it's a power to overcome and
Sometimes it creates my most sombre moods
Overcoming the large leafed trees of thought
That bow in deference to the purging water
On drizzling days in the forest of my mind
There is a power in grey, driving rain
Birds hunched and shivering on the branches
Sit mute, singing silenced, overcome
By the flood that creates its own sound
Then gradually it eases and silence pervades
On drizzling days in the forest of my mind
There is a power in grey, driving rain.

Golden Paths

Twilight has arrived as the clouds break up
The sun sinks to the tops of the mountains.
And everything appears to become red hot!
The vivid scarlet ranges contrasting against the
Darkening blue sky and the clouds of Heaven.
The sun is now more than half swallowed
Twilight has arrived as the clouds break up
The sun sinks to the tops of the mountains.
The mountains cool losing their flaming red
but take on the golden glow of the dying sun
and rays of solar light flash heavenward
as its soul escapes and prepares for another day.
Twilight has arrived as the clouds break up
The sun sinks to the tops of the mountains.

I am September

The mood is mellow and I am September
So little time and still so many things to do
I cannot regret one thing I have done
For it has made me what I am, content for now.
There are things I would change but cannot
Not as yet, and I will make my move in time
The mood is mellow and I am September
So little time and still so many things to do
I do not fear sleep, for I shall wake in spring
But will that spring find me alone once again
Where I will wander down roads seeking you
In finding you, share our seasons once again?
The mood is mellow and I am September
So little time to share so many things with you.

Just Thoughts

Dark skies evoke a sense of melancholy
The colours are the browns of winter
Where no life has been allowed to play or folly
And green and such have not been allowed to come.
There is black also, from the scorching flames
Some set by nature in her heat, and some by man.
Dark skies evoke a sense of melancholy
The colours are the browns of winter
Nature in her desire to grow makes her claims
And reclaiming her rights where ever she can.
Man is incidental and in the way, and for that
He is the one who'll pay the ultimate bill.
Dark skies evoke a sense of melancholy
The colours are the browns of winter.

-----

Nocturna

An embrace from the past invades my mind
knowing it can never last.
Fragments of smiles and laughing eyes
are now like torn up newspaper,
and like feelings can never be recycled
without the original ingredients.
An embrace from the past invades my mind
knowing it can never last.
Memory images are still pristine though
and will be protected for all time
because there will never be new ones
created to replace them.
An embrace from the past invades my mind
knowing it can never last.

-----

Pensamientos Oscuros

The black trees in my minds corner
Grow rancid with the fruit of death
Corruption and the smell of sulphur
Decaying stench forms on my breath.
I feel the worms tear and butcher
And flesh again the earth restoreth
The black trees in my minds corner
Grow rancid with the fruit of death
The soil slowly takes me to her
Finally earth becomes one with flesh
Time erases my sepulchre
My soul rests again in Asgoreth
The black trees in my minds corner
Grow rancid with the fruit of death.

Queens

The egg has hatched, the young chick looks up,
Overhead, above the nest she sees the world.
That world is a blue sky and white fluffy clouds.
The chick and her siblings are fed and grow,
And soon she realises the world is so much larger,
As she sees trees around and the ground below.
The egg has hatched, the young chick looks up,
Overhead, above the nest she sees the world.
Still she loves the sky and those white clouds
Until one day she discovers the gift of God.
It was then she found out about the world,
Looking down as a Queen surveying her realm.
The egg has hatched, the young chick looks up,
Overhead, above the nest she sees the world.

-----

Sunset

Tease my eyes with brief glimpses of God!
Dance upon treetops, mould to mountain ridges.
Change your aspect and send beams of light
Flashing through trees to bounce upon water.
There's an intense twilight azure in your place
As you shift effortlessly among the landscapes.
Tease my eyes with brief glimpses of God!
Dance upon treetops, mould to mountain ridges.
A ballerina you are; entwining, entrancing.
As mystic as the mountains you dance upon.
As you fall, swirl and twist down the valleys
Of tree and scented bush to another lonely poet
Tease my eyes with brief glimpses of God!
Dance upon treetops, mould to mountain ridges.

Tears, gentle tears

I have seen a different side of you
Hidden beneath all that steel,
is a fragile side, a loving side,
that is insecure and feels.
You reminded me of a little sparrow
that has flown in through an open door
I have seen a different side of you
Hidden beneath all that steel
I tried to help you and pick you up
and although I could never be yours,
I wanted to be the one
who would guide you to the window.
I have seen a different side of you
Hidden beneath all that steel.

Velvet Garden

There's a Velvet garden in my heart
would you like to take a look?
If you dare to come inside
there is nothing I would hide.
Come enjoy the sweet perfume
rest your body on those velvet roses.
There's a Velvet garden in my heart
would you like to take a look?
As your will begins to slip
I feel you come alive in my caress
your beauty is a colour around you
The tender trembling moments start
There's a Velvet garden in my heart
would you like to take a look?

Waiting

The sun no longer shines on us
Instead a pale grey sky overlooks
What we used to call our heaven.
Where is that summer we called heaven?
Where is that heaven where we loved?
Even if it was a dream where did it go?
The sun no longer shines on us
Instead a pale grey sky overlooks
Come the spring will love revive also?
Will we spend time looking into eyes
And souls, and swearing eternal love
At least until the fall, when once again.
The sun no longer shines on us
Instead a pale grey sky overlooks.

Like the Sea

Slow steps that lead you gently back to bed
While tight blue jeans caress for attention.
The cotton shirt falls silent to the floor
As fingers let the shy emotions go
Into the pools of want where eyes connect
And lovers come to bathe in sweet desire.
Slow steps that lead you gently back to bed
While tight blue jeans caress for attention,
Against the tender whiteness of your skin
As silk and lace ebb away like the sea
Beneath the gently caress of my hands
In that breath of love we finally take
Slow steps that lead you gently back to bed
While tight blue jeans caress for attention.

Soul Secrets

Where shards of light entwine with flowing streams,
The magic sings with breezy willow trees
While lovers hide beneath the rustling green
Their wedding bed an old moss-covered stone
A secret place behind a weeping veil
And love whispers with the water's laughter
Where shards of light entwine with flowing streams,
The magic sings with breezy willow trees
We shared the dreams in our mystical home
With falling blossom setting off to sea
And we slumbered upon the mossy rock
Until the dawn again revealed the day
Where shards of light entwine with flowing streams,
The magic sings with breezy willow trees.

Heated Memories

Once again the flaming lord of the sky
With all his splendour has come into view,
Carelessly burning away all opposition.
The sky once white with pretentious clouds
Is now an open altar to the minions below,
Lying prone and almost naked in worship
Once again the flaming lord of the sky
With all his splendour has come into view,
Skin cancer is ignored in favour of fashion.
And Hell has been invited on earth for a while.
Afterwards worshipers trudge slowly home,
To cool showers and air-conditioning.
Once again the flaming lord of the sky
With all his splendour has come into view.

-----

The Illusionist

Once again fate has picked up the rings of life
Like any illusionist he shows them to be apart
His stellar gown highlights the glinting stars
A flash of light! Shazam! The rings are joined.
So like any other whim of fate they are as one
Their lives separate once, have now been joined
Once again fate has picked up the rings of life
Like any illusionist he shows them to be apart
And here we are you and I awaiting fates move.
We have met and joined wondrously together
The light is still upon us what will he do?
I pray he puts us down and moves along.
Once again fate has picked up the rings of life
Like any illusionist he shows them to be apart.

-----

I Surrender

I surrender to you my heart and soul
I'm so certain that we'll never part.
In this life we'll set a paradigm
Of making love growing a fine art
So others will know there is a place
That their love will one day begin
I surrender to you my heart and soul
I'm so certain that we'll never part.
In a garden of love that is so fine
A garden created whilst separate
With a bower forming a loving heart
We will see love blossom more each day.
I surrender to you my heart and soul
I'm so certain that we'll never part.

-----

La Bellezza dell'Amore

The beauty of that which is called our love
And cannot be compared with any jewel
Or weighed and compared with gold.
Nor can it be counted in years.
There is no measure that's created by man
That understands the basic units of life,
The beauty of that which is called our love
And cannot be compared with any jewel.
No value can ever be placed on desire
On wanting to share forever one's life.
Beyond wealth and far beyond mans power
Lies a gift from the Gods that all may see,
The beauty of that which is called our love
And cannot be compared with any jewel.

-----

Mad Dance

Free to dance in the rain, and feel the cold,
Loves pain, washed out by the heavens.
Being cleansed as I drown my senses
Ridding emotions less dense to me.
There are no walls of defence, I'm free
Free, yes free to be who I want to be.
Free to dance in the rain, and feel the cold,
Loves pain, washed out by the heavens.
Madness, happiness, a splashing child
Tears of joy mingling with the water
A euphoric feeling in becoming wild
A Tarantella now will be waltzing later.
Free to dance in the rain, and feel the cold,
Loves pain, washed out by the heavens.

-----

No Longer

No longer do I soar like the Golden Eagle
Looking down on the chequered Earth below.
The sun would shine on my wings of gold
As they spread out in the flight of day.
Instead I am now simply a peaceful dove
Content in my ways, but I still fly.
No longer do I soar like the Golden Eagle
Looking down on the chequered Earth
My wings are now the colour of winter
I am respected as one with the Earth
And have learned to treasure her ways.
Too soon only time will fly, I will be gone
No longer do I soar like the Golden Eagle
Looking down on the chequered Earth below.

Persone di Grazia

See as we walk the way our shadows hold hands
The way they blend and merge as we stroll along.
The sun creates images from out of his golden rays
Making them more real than us we might wonder.
Look, see how they unite, and the way they blend
Having joined are reluctant to be separated by man.
See as we walk the way our shadows hold hands
The way they blend and merge as we stroll along.
Look how they merge, no overlap they transcend
To a unity of souls, creating an apotheosis of scenes.
They're not black images, but souls leading us
To where our non-physical self is what life means.
See as we walk the way our shadows hold hands
The way they blend and merge as we stroll along.

-----

Returno

Last month we witnessed winters first scenes
For a while we saw the splendours of farewell.
The leaves had fallen and made messes on roads
Which were swept up, or washed away by rain
Leaving naked skeletons of trees reaching up
As if praying to heaven to clothe them once again.
Last month we witnessed winters first scenes
For a while we saw the splendours of farewell.
Even though its still midwinter, I saw an offer of spring,
Bees still diligently at their task helping plants pollinate
Following their flight pattern flower to flower.
Is that not a sign of spring, a sign of rebirth, when
Last month we witnessed winters first scenes
For a while we saw the splendours of farewell.

Silver Thread

You offered me a silver thread that is so fine
The minute I touched it I was your prisoner.
I can but hardly see it and yet somehow
By this thread of finest soul, so delicate
So fine a draw and yet it is so strong
That I am bound to thee forever more
You offered me a silver thread that is so fine
The minute I touched it I was your prisoner.
I offer thee my silver thread more crude
Ordinary in it's disposition and yet you know
Having taken my gift your soul is lost
And he will weave a cloth of soul so fine
You offered me a silver thread that is so fine
The minute I touched it I was your prisoner.

Sonnet to a Sparrow

How quiet your chirping now my little friend
Autumn daylight keeps you longer anest
Now you have no company, no love to send
Were you an Eagle she'd be by your breast
'Stead come spring you must court like the rest
What a pity I say that finality happened.
How quiet your chirping now my little friend
Autumn daylight keeps you longer anest
You both were very well fed, why did it end
In two months you will again build a nest
Each time you build, you do your best
What a pity you have to build 'stead of mend
How quiet your chirping now my little friend
Autumn daylight keeps you longer anest.

Vessels

A soul is the vessel in which love doth haul
Sailing seas on which life constantly storms
Fair winds like storm, or calm, just other doors
Doors which once opened there is no reverse.
We make each life, each love a port of call
Not just a journey in life, but a reason to explore
A soul is the vessel in which love doth haul
Sailing seas on which life constantly storms
A constant search each life in fates corridors
Meeting for a long time, always wishing more
Sometimes like this one our time will be so short
But together for Eternity when finality calls
A soul is the vessel in which love doth haul
Sailing seas on which life constantly storms.

Walk With Me

Come! Walk with me in the moonlight
There's only you and I this starry night.
For have not we been together before
And our spirits united for all time?
Walking closely together on the beach
Holding hands as we cross the sands.
Come! Walk with me in the moonlight
There's only you and I this starry night.
The old beach sands have long memories
Holding eternal secrets hidden by time.
But what's been forgotten we remember
Especially I am yours just as you are mine.
Come! Walk with me in the moonlight
There's only you and I this starry night.

X for the Loser

How can my heart be trusted again,
Too easy I gave it and now it's returned?
It once was red but now it's mudded black
Like it's been dragged along a dirty plain.
The memories I hope time will erase
But times were good, you gave me hope
How can my heart be trusted again
Too easy I gave it and now it's returned
The spoils of war are now yours alone?
It was not love with you, I realise it now
Or even lust, which would please me so
I finally admit you have me beat.
How can my heart be trusted again,
Too easy I gave it and now it's returned?

-----

X is for Absence

What good is love when there is only silence
And the return sometimes is a look and abuse.
The nurses look and smile at me in sympathy
And I can only cry knowing what used to be.
But sometimes there is a look and there is love
Then for a moment or a while things are good
What good is love when there is only silence
And the return sometimes is a look and abuse.
Just as quick there is nothing all is gone.
From that lady that nursed me and cursed me
And loved me beyond reason without doubt
Bonding the minute her breast was in my mouth.
What good is love when there is only silence
And the return sometimes is a look and abuse.

Domestic Violence

Why is it that some men need to hurt
The very heart that proved to be true
Is it power he seeks over one so frail
Bringing her down to a lower esteem
The hurt that he inflicts cannot be right
To one who has given him much love
Why is it that some men need to hurt
The very heart that proved to be true
How can this be when once so happy
Not a thing that hinted what was to be
If she had a prediction of the future
I wonder if now this would not be so
Why is it that some men need to hurt
The very heart that proved to be true.

Dreamer

What does she dream of deep in thought
Within the peaceful surrounding meadows
She who treasures the beauties of nature
Wild as jewels that dance within a breeze
Within an abundance of natures floral gifts.
To entrance the dreamer towards fantasy
What does she dream of deep in thought
Within the peaceful surrounding meadows
Is it thoughts of love that dwells in her heart
That provokes her question towards nature
Does he love me, or does he love me not
Blowing the seed from the dandelion clock.
What does she dream of deep in thought
Within the peaceful surrounding meadows.

Druids of Tanglewoo

They play the fiddle and beat the drum
The merrier they play the faster the beat
Twisting and turning in a frenzied dance
Within the wildest forests of Tanglewood
Fiercely the winds blow thro' the bushes
As the rhythm of boughs sway to and fro
They play the fiddle and beat the drum
The merrier they play the faster the beat
A flurry of leaves rustle through the night
Fire flies dance by the light of the moon
Until the bleakness of night turns to day
As the darkness looms it all starts again
They play the fiddle and beat the drum
The merrier they play the faster the beat.

-----

Gator Swamp

A stagnated swamp lies within the marsh
Dark and putrid the stench of death within
That holds careless victims within a grasp
Lost the spirits that dare to lie beneath
There is no life that a swamp shall endure
No-one recovers from the murky depth.
A stagnated swamp lies within the marsh
Dark and putrid the stench of death within
Of lost souls that hath rendered helpless
Shall ne'er return from this bottomless pit
For life hath been drawn out like a sponge
Trapped beneath a tomb of tangled weed
A stagnated swamp lies within the marsh
Dark and putrid the stench of death within.

Higgledy Piggledy

I'm a higgledy piggledy cottage
That has only one room to view
If you want me then I`m yours
One goes up another goes down
Ladders I think you should know
No such luxuries as a stair case
I'm a higgledy piggledy cottage
That has only one room to view
Complete with an outside privy
To be emptied only when used
All I need is a good lick of paint
And a bunk up the ladder for bed
I'm a higgledy piggledy cottage
That has only one room to view.

Lu Zhishen Flowery Monk Part 1

A sacred bond who had worshipped proud
That became a monk within heavenly spirits
Devout within the gardens of Ancient China
He bore his remarkable strength with pride
Ranked thirteenth of the Liangshan heroes
Where he flourished a spade and dagger
A sacred bond who had worshipped proud
That became a monk within heavenly spirits
His body depicts the fine art of a tattoo
In keeping with strength of will deep within
Within his powers he uprooted a willow tree
From the depths of the sacred Gansu river
A sacred bond who had worshipped proud
That became a monk within heavenly spirits.

-----

Lu Zhishen Flowery Monk Part 2

Winds of great change predict his future life
Which foretold of fate within his pious faith
Great friendship had claimed him a brother
Lin Chong an avid instructor of martial arts
Who was sent in exile far from Kangzhou
Mistook tho' he was for a barbarous bandit
Winds of great change predict his future life
Which foretold of fate within his pious faith
Lu Zhinshen hidden from view to protect him
From the evils that his captors would inflict
Even if it had meant a fate worse than death
He would proceed to the last breath he had
Winds of great change predict his future life
Which foretold of fate within his pious faith.

-----

Lu Zhishen Flowery Monk Part 3

He seeks great peace upon Mount Twin Dragons
Where lost spirits shall return deep within his soul
To survive the heartfelt denials of a passive monk
Great strength he had once has now been denied
What must he do to regain his future composure
When the flesh remains weak and blood runs thin
He seeks great peace upon Mount Twin Dragons
Where lost spirits shall return deep within his soul,
Being one of the few survivors after the campaign
Refusing to be ordained to the life of an Abbot
The sudden crash of tides of the Quaintang River
Gravely took his last rights away as he perished.
He seeks great peace upon Mount Twin Dragons
Where lost spirits shall return deep within his soul.

Epitaph: Now I finally realize that I am myself!

Luna Mystica

Night spirit of the moon come enshroud me
I shall feel ecstasy within his warm embrace
Brought to me desires that nurture my soul
That I may be bound into pleasures therein
For you have powers of lunar constellations
That nurtures spirits into everlasting love
Night spirit of the moon come enshroud me
I shall feel ecstasy within his warm embrace
For I seek much pleasure within fantasies
You enlighten passions that I crave within
Shall be love within deeper feelings of lust
I then weaken within pleasures of his touch
Night spirit of the moon come enshroud me
I shall feel ecstasy within his warm embrace.

Natures Passion

Such is the passion of thunderous clouds
That tease so menacingly thro' the skies
Enticing this night of temperatures high
Wild with emotions of an electric storm
That renders thy helpless unto the night
Daring the sword of the storm to flash
Such is the passion of thunderous clouds
That tease so menacingly thro' the skies
So rare in a lifetime lightening strikes
Temperatures high shall arise once again
Thunderbolts send tremors of vibrations
Unto the submission of a natural fantasy
Such is the passion of thunderous clouds
That tease so menacingly thro' the skies.

Pick and Shovel

My time be done when the siren blows
Fare thee well to me old pick and shovel
Work don't come easy at all these days
Been up since the dawn diggin day long
Don't get so easy as the years pass by
For fragile old bones don't get no better
My time be done when the siren blows
Fare thee well to me old pick and shovel
But time has come now to meet the lads
Down yonder at the Old Pig And Whistle
For a pewter of ale and a pork meat pie
Not a penny is left to find my way home
My time be done when the siren blows
Fare thee well to me old pick and shovel.

Vacated Souvenir

Somewhere in a City a gusty wind blew
Torrents of rain burst from heavy clouds
A big black umbrella had blown inside out
Crowds had gathered funny though it was
Laughing aloud on a sidewalk in the rain
This man was funny he didn't have a clue
Somewhere in a City a gusty wind blew
Torrents of rain burst from heavy clouds
'Turn towards the wind' his audience cried
But little did he know that wind can change
So it crashed against a lamp post broken
Only a woman would of known what to do
Somewhere in a City a gusty wind blew
Torrents of rain burst from heavy clouds.
