Poetic Constellations

2016 Poetry Form Challenge

#17 Thomas Wyatt Sonnet

In my opinion Thomas Wyatt is a very misunderstood poet; and whilst being credited for introducing the Petrarchan sonnet to the English court, it's the much younger Henry Howard that receives credit for the introduction of the English form and one sonnet site even credits Howard for "Taming" the sonnet into English, and is credited with introducing the English Sonnet.
Wyatt was 14 years older and probably speaking Italian before Howard was out of nappies. What Wyatt did do was introduce his translations of Petrarch and the Petrarchan form consisting which had a mathematical sequence of 8/6 in their construction which was of a spiritual significance to the originators, and at the same time also introduce the tercet to England.
Very few see the subtleties of Wyatt's form whilst he was introducing the tercet, and introducing a form that complied with the 8/6 pattern, his last two lines were also a couplet, and followed the 4/4/4/2. of what became the English form also. Moreover, Petrarch's own sonnets never had a rhyming couplet at the end as this would suggest logical deduction instead of the intended rational correlation of the form.
Wyatts a. b. b. a.. a. b. b. a.. can be taken as the quatrain and c. d. d.. c. e. e. as the sestet. He wrote 21 sonnets using this five round pattern.
There is another version of this form where he used
a. b. a. b. c. d. d. c. for the octave, and there are seven other sestet variations also and we will be showing these examples in the posts.

I find no peace

I find no peace, and all my war is done:
I fear, and hope; I burn, and freeze like ice;
I fly above the wind, yet can I not arise;
And nought I have, and all the world I seize on;

That locketh nor loseth holdeth me in prison,
And holdeth me not, yet can I 'scape nowise:
Nor letteth me live, nor die at my devise,
And yet of death it giveth me occasion.

Without eyen I see, and without tongue I 'plain;
I desire to perish, and yet I ask health;
I love another, and thus I hate myself;

I feed me in sorrow, and laugh in all my pain.
Likewise displeaseth me both death and life,
And my delight is causer of this strife.

Sir Thomas Wyatt (1503-1542)

Please note, we are presenting this as an example of the structure, in reality it is a 14 line sonnet.

Obsession

The one the only the everything
As there can be no other but passion
A task my hands must seek to bid action
From the root that it may grow to being.
Out of being the one true one takes wing
Becomes alert to desires wind song
Wrapped about the heart and soul by the gun
You have held at the temple of loving.
All reason has been shot full of wanting
Waiting turned to madness at the least cue
To do only, to wait never for what's true,
There where you are becomes my only thing
I wish to do in order to be near
Nearness to the one I hold the most dear.

Dark Red Rose

You came into the house smiling,
In your hand was a dark red rose
Showing it holding to your nose
You looked even more beguiling.
And offered it to me curtsying
I did, sharing your pleasure close
A lovely fragrance made more so
Simply by your gentle touching
Such simple things so easy so grand
So long I have known you
You have taught me love
The meaning of true friendship and
Now you have taught me how to fly
Please show me where to land.

-----

In the Mists of Time

Somewhere in the mists of time I met you
Sharing wine and bread together you and I
Singing songs that will echo through eternity
And now each life I wait until our rendezvous.
Each blessed meeting this life the days are few
Sharing wine and bread and song, being happy
Confident of a love that is more than certainty
But planned by fate, getting stronger as it grew.
Once again somewhere in time we shall meet
We will break bread, and from the wineglass sup
And life's wine shared, more tasty with each cup.
We will move in time and feet will tap the beat
And sing our songs and speak our love in rhyme
Knowing we will meet again somewhere in time.

-----

Para Aprender Amar

To learn to love, you must first learn to cry
Our bodies and minds conditioned by life
Must show no emotion and be stoic in strife
Offer your heart before love says goodbye.
For too long now, my heart has been asleep
But now there is tears my heart is open again,
Not tears or sobs of a heart wrenched in pain
But slowly through joy, I'm learning to weep.
At last it has become the time for you to cry
I have looked in your eyes and I see your tears
You have held it inside you for all these years.
As anger and frustration from inside you die
Here beside you my kiss wipes away all pain
And welcomes you back to love once again.

-----

Question

Many times in the past, I've kissed your face
But yet each time I've had to let you go
Each we met and so many lives ago
But why did Fate pick this time and place?
In this time and life we live so far away
And yet in many ways we are so close.
It was not my wish, it's the way Fate chose
That she should treat us in this cruel way
That leaves us in pain and in dismay.
It was simply time, it was natures need
Each time we live our love we feed.
Cognisant that together we cannot stay
Yet I know each life our love's sublime
Knowing that soulmates conquer time.

-----

Winter Rages

Winters black cloak again covers all the land
Spreading her dark cold fingers freezing life
Withdrawn and sleeping from winters strife
The colours of life are now hidden from mind.
Outside as weather rages and storms sleeting
I meet thee my love, sheltered safe from harm
Inside soft candles light and log fires warm
Tightly holding each other, kissing, greeting.
Music, soft sensuous rhythms fill the room
Whilst we closely dance, touching, exploring
Soft gasps and moans fill the room of loving.
Flashes of passion explode dispelling the gloom
And now we pair look into each others eyes
All seeing in love filling the room with our sighs.

-----

Your Nearness

I wanted a love that was surreal
My preference dreamlike not weird
There was nothing about love I feared
I wanted something I knew was real.
I'm crazy, but I'm not a schlemiel!
When I saw you doubts disappeared
Right away any fears or doubts cleared
Now heaven blessed in the way I feel.
Know that I want to keep you forever
Your nearness takes my breath away
And absence makes my heart go astray.
Grow old along with me my lover
I didn't know I was looking for
I found you and each day I want more.

Nature. Thomas Wyatt Sonnet Series

(Texte)

Given any chance at all new life begins
Creatures know their place and seek a mate
All beasts live in harmony within their state
See the humble spider and the web she spins.
Every plant in spring new leaves it wins
Knows it will have its time here then a wait
And so life grows as it begins to procreate
So that nature's balance's always remains.
All this was given to man and his conceit
And with time forgot this is not his plan
Stating all this has been given to man
He is truly believing in his minds deceit
Ignoring that everyday a species dies
And all we hear are the corporate lies.

#1

Given any chance at all, new life begins
Growing, forming, shaping adapting to grow
This is the challenge Nature will put on show
It thrives and shapes and lives and fits within
Every year with the start of Natures encircling
Each plant mutates and has adapted so
It lies dormant in sand and it sleeps in snow,
On looking close a new shoot is found therein
Each plant finally awakens within the ground
It is now the time and the chance to raise
As rivers of flowers and plants are all ablaze
And plant life everywhere starts to abound
All this and more is part of Natures plan
The least of which should humble man.

#2

Creatures know their place and seek a mate
Knowing surely man is nothing but a beast
And on the whole of nature he will feast
In the scheme of things he forgets his fate.
His plans and desires must Nature sate
But just like them he must breath and feast
Following the basic planning laws at least
He must learn finally to get himself straight
The Brehon laws of the Ancient Celt
Knew what Nature was really meant to be
Beasts and plants in absolute harmony
Knowing how the original creation felt
Man has to learn what Nature is worth
Following simple ways that feel the Earth.

#3

All beasts live in harmony within their state
Should one species become too strong
Nature will level it out before too long
The balance will change and so their fate
Natures balance is absolute and truly great
Man often denies or ignores that he wrong
Without thinking and going in headstrong
Until Nature comes and puts him straight
Pointing out he's only an alternate form.
Tribal ways "Civilisation" ignores the fact
It's out of ignorance as well as an evil act
Because he ignores all other creature born
For science and technology only deceives.
Ask the ancients what the tribe believes.

#4

But what of hidden places that are dim and dark
Only occasionally will they see the light of day?
Have they a lesser right to have their say?
Are they any less of Nature than a wildlife park?
Man in his arrogance will again make his mark
They always come back when he turns away
In spite of mans work Nature does have her say
She is persistent and still leaves her hallmark.
What of the creatures that thrive in this domain
Even for them Nature has an important use
Creepy crawlies that feed on mans refuse
The little beasts that are part of the chain
Soon there will be a time when Nature wins
See the humble spider and the web she spins.

#5

Every plant in spring new leaves it wins
And blossoms forth its symbolic scenes
To grow procreate and pass on its genes
Aware of the life conceived, what it brings
Reliant on symbiosis for the key and things
And needs the help of worker bee's means
Or other creature that passes seed in teams
To each plant and weed fertility it clings
And as every season waxes and wanes
Because Nature balances out with time
So that nothing can ever really outclimb
The years loss is always another's gains.
All things are equal and man must learn
A balanced life is everyone's concern.

#6

Look, see the eagle soar such a wondrous sight
Majestic, riding the thermals where he belongs
Playing with the air, soaring, listen to his songs.
See the feathers spread out balancing the flight.
Each night as he sleeps is another raptor's might
He is wise and has no respect for fools and songs
His flight no less majestic, but who sees his wrongs
Function is all important, to achieve his right.
Man knows that there is beauty watching them
This is often the place where mans wisdom flaws
In failing to give to Nature the respect he owes.
He only thinks about what will affect his income.
Each raptor king knows his strength will abate
Knows it will have its time here then a wait.

#09

All this was given to man and his conceit
And live in simple ways upon the Earth
Feeding, nourishing, realising life's worth
Somewhere to live an abundance to eat.
Living as one with the Earth, a simple feat
Some in their greed wanted a fuller Earth
To enlarge his tribe, encouraged more birth
And so other tribe knew they had to compete
Following ancient ways there is no dearth
Those ways were ignored and forgotten
Created other beliefs that were rotten,
The bosom of Nature is a bountiful berth
The ancients never had need to steal or cheat
They balanced their lives, without deceit.

#10 (Reversed Wyatt)

In much older times what men took from Earth
Always it was replaced by an equal worth
Was replaced in kind with some other gift
Man was considerate and cunning in his ways
Knowing that nothing is free the user pays.
Sometimes killed slaves at the end of shift
Now he just rips it of the earth because he can
Coal, diamonds or gold taking out great wealth
The clean skinned owners think of their own self.
Ignoring it's from Nature that they now scam.
Brehon ways have been cast out by man
There is no gift left to the Gods thanking them
Religion steals and thankfulness they condemn
Who with time forgot this is not his plan.

#11

Stating all this has been given to man
Huge petrol tankers criss-cross the Earth
Taking out, but not paying back its worth
All the time stealing as much as they can.
When the petrol oceans finish their span
The Barons of Power will find another berth
And we will cheer them for all we're worth,
Calling them Kings and worship their plan.
Satan looks at their acts and laughs at God,
Who gave us a place to live and food to eat.
Now we must pay for what's under our feet.
The sons of Cain have taken over every sod
We had only to share, sometimes give a nudge
Instead the greedy are allowed to lie and bludge*

#12

He is truly believing in his minds deceit
The teller speaks replacing facts with figures
And ideologies professed by vested interests
The real truths are never on their paper sheet
It is folded and the light of day will never meet.
Of that truth politicians show their disinterest,
Waffle and sidestep showing what they do best
When it's time to vote right things meet defeat.
Old trees are cut down and not replaced at all
The media are amused and write about the mess
Because of this everything suffers in the process.
Developers build towns then a shopping mall
"Rent a crowd" protesters march sometimes try
It's all selling more papers so more trees must die.

#13

Ignoring that everyday a species dies
The Japanese world is filled with crime
Allowing the extinct list to climb,
And presenting us with outrageous lies.
Their Whaling ships scour the seas
Killing whales for "Scientific Research".
And the Japanese name they smirch
Whilst making profit for companies.
Deaf and blind to the worlds cries
And never heeding humanities voice
Surely they can make a better choice
The Japanese people turn blind eyes.
But still they murder under protest
I wonder will the world ever be blessed.

#14

And all we hear are the corporate lies
Or of an oil spill from a damaged tanker
Once more adding to Nature's canker
Remember it's the fault of greed and man.
Some have woke and are doing all they can
Realising the truth and voicing their rancour
Finally the corporations are feeling the anger
They're waking, compromising, making a plan
It's a difficult road that will take lots of time
Pray Nature's patient and is willing to wait,
Instead of destroying we must learn to create.
And if so we'll end up in a world that's sublime
Paradise awaits us all as upwards we climb
And eventually arrive at Nature's pearly shrine.

Gentle Persuasion

Oh such pleasure`s a true love canst be
With gentle caresses as soft as a sigh
Such passion aroused within thee and I
For love in our eyes we both shalt see;
Thrills that tremble with a sensual touch
Softly he whispers of a desirous dream
With gentle persuasion lovers redeem
To a world of fantasy that lingers much
Oh how this ecstacy doth pleasure me;
A mutual romance shalt not ever sever
For this is a love that will linger forever
To feel the delights of love runneth free;
Softly he whispers of a desirous dream
With gentle persuasion lovers redeem.

-----

Ghostly Encounter

Unto the shadowed darkness of the night
Through the denseness of a wooded glade
Whilst their pounding hoof beats doth fade
Galloping horsemen though none in my sight;
Of ghostly phantoms, on an unfinished quest
For this was a haunting of past times fared
Nervous the hounds that cowered scared
For unrest spirits its hounds that know best;
Haunting the footpaths where mortals tread
As they ventured back from the silent dead
Unto the shadowed darkness of their plight
Returned once more from an eternal unrest;
Chastising the living of life they hath shared
To deliver as evil and render them scared.

-----

His Last Sonnet

For his friends he wished to bid adeue
Writing his words on a tear stained page
Of true love sonnets mellowed with age
His memory cherished remained a few;
How quickly had the years then passed
Composed of love from so deep within
From an ailing heart with passion therein
When the last of his sonnets were cast;
Oh what joy he gave to the poetry world
Which he wrote with a precision unfurled
And to this day his sonnets remain anew;
Composed of love from so deep within
From an ailing heart with passion therein.

-----

Just One Time

When love hath touched thee just one time
Oh what enchantment this wonder canst be
Hypnotic glances only lovers eyes can see
A tenderness of affection shall be sublime;
What joy and elation doth thy heart bring
A togetherness that only lovers shalt share
Just to know for thee love is always there
Forever this promise shalt be a blessing
When your old and grey and in thy prime;
It is then thou shalt remember that glow
Of how much then thy were cherished so
When love hath touched thee just one time;
A togetherness that only lovers could share
With the feeling that love is always there.

-----

Last Tree

When the last tree is severed from the land
And all wild fruits are gathered from the field
Creations have perished with a fruitless yield
Then and only then shall people understand;
Whilst snatching wild berries from their stalk
Like us they live and breathe with sap within
To destroy this wonder shall surely be a sin
Still they desire these forests in which to walk;
There will come to pass when they will know
They cannot take and still watch them grow
How much more shall nature then withstand
It would take too many long years to restock;
Of mans destruction when can growth begin
To ignore this tragedy shall surely be a sin.

Naiads

Blythe the naiads within a rippling stream
Playfully teasing at the cool waters edge
Amidst lily pads and green floating sedge
With mischief amidst their wildest dreams;
Dwelt spritely naiads. a vision of fantasy
Mystical charms displayed in green eyes
Entrancing victims with a pleasant surprise
Of eternal pleasures in a myth of ecstasy;
But promises may never be what it seems
For fate has a way of changing this chance
The naiads that was, only were in a trance
All that is left now are visions of dreams;
When the water within the stream runs dry
The water nymphs then are destined to die.

-----

Silence

Must I all alone this silent vigile keep,
Passions hidden within an aching heart
As raging oceans wrench us both apart
Saddened eyes of tears flow and weep;
Why in this farsaken world of pleasure
Shall not fantasy take the place of woe
For nurtured love to blossom and grow
With love in our hearts both to treasure;
There is no path thro` these oceans deep
I can only imagine in silence with dreams
Some day love shall be all that it seems
Until then in silence this vigil I shall keep;
As turbulant waves of passions then flow
Perhaps this love shall blossom and grow.

-----

Snippets of Summer

Come summer time when the sun doth shine
Upon all that blooms from the earth thereon
Posies of daisies that spring from the lawn
Honeysuckles promise sweet perfume divine;
Twin`d round the stems of a wild Rambling rose
A sprig of blue lavender bears nectar for bees
And foxgloves are swaying within a soft breeze
Snippets of summer time mother nature knows;
All things shalt nourish with fruits upon the vine
The beauty of summer then is ours to behold
With an autumn harvest from the earth of old
Of rose hips, blackberries and elderberry wine;
Hazels and chestnuts tumbling from the trees
New snippets of summer with natures expertise.

-----

Sonnet of Love

Lingering phrases that huant the mind
To be writ upon an aged parchment page
Of leaves worn and mellowed with age
Deep tones of the past within shalt find;
For inborn emotions of love doth nurture
Vibrant tone deep within the poets heart
Eternal love songs that hath ne-er depart
Composed with affection for the future;
How enchanting when words of love unwind
For the quill of the poet doth lovingly flow
Deep the feelings within a sonnet doth show
A treasure twixt lovers that e-er shalt bind;
Of vibrant tones deep within the poets heart
An eternal love song that shalt ne-er depart.

-----

Storm

Both had made haste for a storm was nigh
Thund`rous clouds were drawing quite near
Gusty winds had followed thy both fear`d
And lightning flashed o`er a darkened sky;
Twas within a cave by the wild raging sea
Towards the calm foam of the surf within
They lay on a cushion of seaweed therein
It was there they drifted both he and she;
For they had dwelt there some time before
And once more returned to days of yore
Over the ocean where the sea urchens cry
When great storms came in from the sea;
They seek eternal life to dwell their within
T`wards the calming of the surfs therein.

-----

Tender Love

How tender thy sweet caresses of love
When love shineth deep within thine eyes
I shalt feel my trembling heart beats rise
With this passion that thou art worthy of;
How softly thou endear me with thy touch
When thy gather me closer to thy breast
I doth honour thy love and feel so blest
For thus I do know that I love thee much;
And for thee I cherish this love hereof
How sweet are thy kisses thy doth bestow
I shalt love thee truly for thus I doth know
When spirits arise neath the stars above;
And thou gather me closer to thy breast
It is I with honour shalt then be blest.

-----

Travellers Tale

So weary was the traveller that journey`d on
Upon dusty road tracks thro` rough terraines
Along high mountain passes and wide open plains
So bedraggled the steed who did look forlorn;
Gleaming with sweat of his threatened whip
Thro` the rain and winds of a cold winter night
He reached his destiny with a promise bright
Thirsty and fatigued from this mighty long trip;
But there in the distance all had come to pass
Once more came a`courting this desirable lass
Too long had he ventured this passion inborn;
'Twas all for the ale she served him to sip
Thro` the rain and winds of a cold winter night
He reached his destiny with a promise bright.

Treasured Dreams

Oh how I dream of warm summer nights
When warmth of my lover reigns supreme
Upon a sensual pillow of precious dreams
Of sweet scented musk by candle lights;
I dream of my lover who appears to me
For I see him smile and hear him speak
Completely relaxed defenses are weak
Only he can awaken these desires free;
When wings of passion shall arise in flight
Temperatures rise in the heat of a flame
I know in my heart we both feel the same
It shall all be relieved when time is right;
Deep within a vision are eyes that speak
Complete and in love defences are weak.

Echoes of Wind Chimes

On the summer breeze echoes of wind chimes,
Inspire love as purple hues of sunset
Lead the roaming our hearts never forget,
And we recall so many summer times,
In romantic words and Shakespeare's old rhymes,
While we share another glass of white wine,
In a sensual touch of that love divine,
Eyes tell more than a body gesture mimes.
When the air of night upon Earth descends
With starlight singing a different tune
We shall dance once again beneath the moon
Into the night as lunar light ascends
And should we dare to dream and take a chance
We can find the realms of summer romance.

-----

Moonbeam's Kiss

Through the winter winds, in the summer rain,
Beneath the glittering stars of the night,
I long to show her love in sweet delight,
As eyes meet to mark the soul like sailor's twain.
The shudder where her fingertips have lain,
Hand in hand, desiring love's sweetest bliss,
In melting passion hidden in a kiss,
So gentle it penetrates without pain.
There can be no pretence or commotion,
The heart is dared to reveal all that's true,
So love can reach beyond the midnight blue.
I’ll cherish her heart with my devotion,
For love found in our entwined destiny,
And moonbeams reach gently to kiss the sea.

-----

Reapers Child

Reflections shimmer o'er the water's deep,
The silent tears of haunted silver dreams,
Declaring that love is not what it seems
And in the moonlight I am left to weep,
Amid the fear that o'er my heart shall creep;
Beneath the waters where destiny waits
As chosen by the pain of my love's fates
In icy tendrils of eternal sleep.
The lady of darkness has made me her own,
I walk in between the paths of starlight
To bring fear to those who dream at night
The chilling kiss that touched every bone
Like the Reaper bringing the age of death
Vacated eyes await the final breath.

-----

The Way Home

Reflections shimmer o'er the water's deep,
The silent tears of haunted silver dreams,
Declaring that love is not what it seems
And in the moonlight I am left to weep,
Amid the fear that o'er my heart shall creep;

Wild Voices

As I travel the path to my own self,
Reacquainting me with who I am,
Seeing the truth and not giving a damn,
Adjusting balance of my mental health,
Not seeking or wanting money or wealth,
At last I am allowed to be just me,
An independent woman living free,
No longer hiding or acting with stealth.
I know my history and way ahead
I shan't be afraid of futures unknown,
This journey of life on which I have grown
The words from my pen that need to be said,
To the girl who claimed my heart; she has come
and leads me along the mystic path home.

-----

Wings of Sonnetry

In clouds of daydreams where the poets fly
On the wings of sonnetry and free verse,
In words of love they constantly rehearse,
Looking above the clouds to see the sky,
With quill and paper pages floating by,
Softly scattering sound in ways of art
In sweet songs to a maiden's waiting heart,
For love takes a bard to a greater high.
So pen in hand I have let go of time,
Reclining on the soft clouds touched by you,
Practicing the words that put feelings true,
A love letter of harmony and rhyme,
That opens my heart flying high above
As there is only one word I know - love.

Ryter Roethicle

Alone

Comforted only by this semi darkness
As hypnotic flickering candles shine
Now I sit here alone drinking my wine.
How could my life be such a mess.
As I sit here I feel music flow over me
Reminiscing about those midnight kisses
The mountain of love now the deepest abyss
Silently remembering what life used to be.
Is fantasy just another word for lies
Can we truly love in this crazy world
With sighs and tears as truth is unfurled?
What is laughter but the start of sighs
I tried to talk to you and make amends
But you won't talk, how can we be friends?

-----

Mother Moon

My mother moon, do you shine as you feel
Do you see the sorrow and feel the pain?
The subtle agony of lovers being apart again
To meet for so short a time and join and love.
My mother moon, the tender melancholy
You created with each sigh in the night
Creating in our hearts and souls a blight
A fond remembered love, becomes a memory.
My mother moon, the tender stories told
That our tears are like stones on a beach
Clacking together in some kind of speech.
In time our salted tears become controlled.
My mother moon tell me the tears will dry
So perhaps with time the pain will also die.

-----

Nada es Nuevo

The moon sits there in all her glory
She never tires of this consistent view
Smiling because there is nothing new
As she watches lovers create their story.
What is new to them is not to her
To share love with another two
She smiles because there's nothing new
And yet she still is so full of care.
The stars will wink and smile with her
Whilst she just sits there in all her glory
And their love is also their new story.
A scene through endless time will recur
Still smiling because there's nothing new
About the lovers now one not two.

-----

Nature Ascending

Knowing that soon its time will come,
Each plant lives and dies, and sows
Its own nourishment to help it grow,
The next generation it then becomes.
Verdant bush abounds and hums
When woken up from winters doze
And sight and senses become exposed
To mountains blue from haze of gums.
The same happens with all the beasts
Nature's balance keeps species alive
Mutating in order that all survive.
Whether it be hunter or it be feast
Each creature will guiltless connive
To ensure that it's species thrives.

-----

Outside As Weather Rages

Winters black cloak now covers all the land
Spreading her dark cold fingers freezing life
Withdrawn and sleeping from winters strife
The colours of life are now hidden from mind.
Outside as weather rages with storms sleeting

Tightly holding each other, kissing, greeting.

Soft gasps and moans fill the room of loving.
Flashes of passion explode dispelling the gloom

Remember

You were always privy to my heart
Never ever mine, how could you be?
Our hearts were linked, you were part of me
For a special time that now seems so short.
Each precious moment I still dwell on
Our times together were so bittersweet.
That time had wings when ere we'd meet
But those days together are long since gone.
Time apart, I listen to what became our song
I still listen now "I can't stop the feeling"
Wondering why my hearts not healing
Knowing that to someone else you belong.
Time and tide won't mend this heart
It will always hurt whilst we're apart.

-----

Yesterdays and Tomorrows

Its at time like this I miss you
Even far away the puter's kept us together
Now there's nothing, but with memory nothing can sever
What we are, what we feel, what we've been through.
I take my memories and carefully look at them,
Smiling again, your presence makes me complete
knowing that our love can ne'r be beat
And also know we'll prove it time and time again.
I slowly drink my wine remembering the past
Of so many loving days and our loving ways
And no problem worrying if it stays.
I know now that ever and forever it will last
Such a happy thought our future together
Will be forever and ever.

Yield To Me

If you look at a person long enough
You discover humanity through their eyes.
First unyielding then no longer tough
The longer you look behind the disguise.
Of smiles and shrugs and cast off laughs
Each day you see more pain and cries.
Songs have been sung, wine's been drunk
And now through fate we've crossed paths.
Fears and tears shared, problems shrunk
Emotions shared from long stemmed carafes
But I still feel you holding something's back'.
Believing secrets are locked in a hidden trunk
I hope with time all that now seems black,
You'll leave behind and take my track.

Zaberoosti

The wind blows and brown autumn leaves fly
Caught in nature's tarantella but they are not alive,
And only the faeries there dancing will survive
For it is fall and time for some things to die.
For the wee folk it is their last dance this year
And they prepare to battle winters storms,
As from green, to white their world transforms
They silently wait for the first snows to appear.
Wind tunes will be a cacophony for a while
Until spring when Stravinsky will be around
And faeries will dance to a different sound
But in time evolving to a more familiar style.
So, as green leaves shoot, live and in time die,
Faeries live and dance, keeping a watchful eye.

Zilch Power

The Uni staff have loaned me a lantern
It doesn't warm me, but at least I can see.
With my doona wrapped round I'm as warm as can be
I have wine and a pen and I'm free from concern.
Who needs a TV when there is poetry in mind
I'm saving my puter and power for more needy things?
We have been told "Just four hours", that's their offerings,
But I am more cynical and bet its at least eight we'll find.
I've been there before and have the T shirt
Whatever they say double it and smile
And reckon that after that could be a while.
But I wont complain or rub words in the dirt.
I'll carry on writing whilst this battery hold out
And then if it fails you'll hear an almighty shout.

Dresses

I love to wear my lacquered red high heels;
my wide long skirt, that billows in the breeze
plays hide and seek with my now sun-tanned knees-
soft summer air on hidden skin appeals.
I prefer dresses over trouser deals,
a dress gives room to move and does not squeeze,
enhances femininity sans sleaze.
Quite often it most discretely conceals
what too tight pants distastefully reveal.
Trust me, my lady-sisters, you won't freeze
without your slacks; wear those with boots or skis,
to wear a dress or skirt, is no ordeal.
In summer I get naughty thoughts at times -
my plaster sends me words to put in rhymes.

Love

Love is a gentle breeze in early spring,
playing with tender leaves still to unfold;
ruffling sleepy waters as it grows bold -
invites the awakening birds to sing.
In summer love offers a wedding ring,
following ancient rites with bands of gold,
symbols of true promises, made twofold,
holding still out on harsh pains from her sting.
Love's autumn, like an Indian summer clings
with the abundance of last season's hold,
she widely spreads her glory ere the cold
fingers of winter's approach start to wring.
Life will bring days of worry and wonder
love helps us meet both, till we go under.

Trip to Williamstown Beach

As the sun rises through red and orange to yellow,
the temperature climbs to 100 degrees in the shade;
we take our new Austin to Williamstown's esplanade
to join the crowds that wade in the waters shallow,
or recline in the sand under cover of coloured umbrella,
quaffing bottles of ale and lemonade;
we kids build castles of sand with bucket and spade,
and in the cool of blue-green waters wallow.
We laugh as seagulls squabble and squawk over scraps,
and watch as ships sail by on the rim of the world;
we chase each other with pungent seaweed, curled
and dried by the scorching sun into leathered straps.
Reluctant, we leave, as the sun dips and colours the foam,
To the strains of Dad's favourite song "show me the way to go home".

Megalomaniacs

Thin shavings of artwork hang from the sky,
Winds have torn apart what took long to form,
Fluffed images first distorted by storm,
Then like broken webs hold still in the eye,
Unable to leave the sleepy wisps lie,
With malice the darkness moves right back in,
Mouth to the eye gives the wickedest grin,
Disbelieving soon that it too shall die,
Proud for a time to be a great force,
Megalomaniacs are all the same,
Flaunting abuses without hint of shame,
Their mark pleased to leave on history's course,
Obtaining peace, is it truly futile?
When nature and man both are so brutal.

Novae

Rainbows appearing under full moon's light,
Believed a miracle by those who see,
Are colourful pathways that hold a key,
Opening doors to a new future bright,
All who there travel stay well out of sight,
Never revealing neither ways nor means,
Of how are created majestic scenes,
That are filling up skies every night,
Origins of laked myriad of stars,
Treasures waiting at the ends of these arcs,
For those who've learned to follow the marks,
Of proudly displayed universe's scars,
When we notice pages start to turn,
Out of existence many suns did burn.
