Poetic Constellations

#16 Shelley Sonnet

One wonders if the Shelley sonnet is influenced by the French and their fondness for interlocking their stanza. He still follows the 8/6 pattern, but each stanza is linked to the next giving a rhyme pattern of;
a. b. a. b. . a. c. d. c. . e. d. e. . f. e. f.
Here is his most famous sonnet using that pattern.

Ozymandias

I met a traveller from an antique land
Who said: Two vast and trunkless legs of stone
Stand in the desert . . . Near them, on the sand,
Half sunk, a shattered visage lies, whose frown,
And wrinkled lip, and sneer of cold command,
Tell that its sculptor well those passions read
Which yet survive, stamped on these lifeless things,
The hand that mocked them, and the heart that fed:
And on the pedestal these words appear:
"My name is Ozymandias, king of kings:
Look on my works, ye Mighty, and despair!"
Nothing beside remains. Round the decay
Of that colossal wreck, boundless and bare
The lone and level sands stretch far away.

Percy Bysshe Shelley

Birds

Noisy children dance and play in winter storm
Whilst I am locked here inside a glassy jar
Like the uninspired specimen I must conform
The life outside seems so far, far, far away
And the cool, crisp air will soon turn warm
So that even parasites will enjoy their freedom.
I envy the ordinary birds, they seem so alive,
Each morning their chorus removes boredom
So we may begin our more humdrum plain
Whilst they will play and soar and dive.
I believe if I were a bird I would become sane
Able to feel the pleasure of beautiful things
Taken for granted in our impatient vein
For physical release and mental bearings.

Celestial Thoughts

And what of stars, are they so far away
Under them we dream and have hopes,
We know in time, like us they will decay
Likewise we end up in wooden envelopes.
In youth what stars shine, see plans array
Wild things we do and say and risks we take.
Too late sometimes and a star blinks out
But such is youth we will ignore a mistake.
Surviving the day, in the evening that is age
We look up at the sky, more stars in doubt
Having survived we are said to be a sage.
Although I would much rather see a fuller sky
This is the time we will be leaving this stage
We were the stars but it's time to say goodbye.

-----

The days will come

The days will come the days will go
The hands of time move on and on
The years will pass not fast, nor slow
Counting weeks as they pass anon.
And in due time our love will grow
Eternity's silver torch lights the way
The once dark path along we'll shown
Pointing upwards to where we'll stay.
At the end of time when all is gone
All because of how our love has grown
Our souls will smile having lived on.
When suns have died and only snow
We have seen all become oblivio
Our love outlasted the world below.

-----

Il Mare e sole

I know I stared at the sea too long today,
I saw the sun consumed by a gentle wave.
Leaving patterns in the swells as if to say
It's not creating the misery of watery grave.
The sun stood still awhile and even went allay
Finally committing itself to its nightly fate.
And suddenly everything around went rare
The night had begun and for a while we wait.
The sea's disappeared from the picture frame
And she too slumbers in the cooler salty air
So begins another night of this endless game
The night is o'er and again he must resume.
With the sea and his clandestine flame.
First task to kiss the sea, and remove the gloom

-----

Just Thoughts

Drought skies evoke a sense of melancholy
The colours are the browns of Autumn
Where no life has been allowed to play or folly
And green and such have not been allowed to come.
There is black also, from the flames hot volley
Some set by nature in her heat, and some by man.
Nature in her desire to grow makes her claim
And reclaiming her rights where ever she can.
Man is incidental and in the way, and for that
He is the one who'll take the ultimate blame
A balance must be sought and not combat.
Nature fights all over against Mammon's will
But who causes that, do you want a name
Because in the end man will have to pay the bill.

-----

Kicking the Night

I walk slowly along the suburban street
Kicking the night along in front of me
Carefully avoiding the rises in the concrete.
With the poor street lights it's hard to see.
Just watch for where shadows and white meet
I just had to get out and help clear my mind
We shouted at each other like we were insane
Words'd been said, that were unjust and unkind.
Today there was too much pain, Never again!
But I say that every time and like a fool again
Commit myself to another plan that's inane
I'll learn to find someone that's not a sham
Ignore something else, for once use my brain
But why search, at my age why give a damn.

-----

Memories

No more can I feel your body pressed against mine
That soft, gentle touch that always aroused my fire
Your kisses made my mind spin, like vintage wine
To your pleasure, your love, I always tried to aspire.
Gone is the love which caused the sun to shine
The bed is now empty, no comfort for me there
Memories that lie there are cold now you’re gone
The doona laid back, the sheets so cold and bare
That clock that we cursed so for moving so fast
I've searched my mind what have I done wrong
Causing a time crawl so slow, a snail could race past
One thing is certain, I know this feeling so well
This horrible thing in my life is unsurpassed
I'm starting my first day of my sentence in hell.

-----

Quality Beach

Look into my eyes, as the moon lights the night
The oceans waves continue to dance so grand
Percussion sounding with each waves bite
Sending out its Bolero rhythm on the sand.
The oceans waves continue to dance with delight
There is no warm softness ever like this bliss
The world becomes still savouring the moment
We press close together so our hearts may kiss.
The beach, the water everything is so benign
We know Fate at last has given us her consent
And the smile on your lips says you are mine.
We will be held together forever with this grace
Because it has caused our two souls combine
And everlasting memories of this lovely place.

-----

Shared

If you look at a person long enough
You discover humanity through their eyes
First unyielding then no longer tough
Each day you see more pain and cries.
The longer you look behind the disguise
Of smiles and shrugs and cast off laughs
Songs have been sung, wine been drunk
Now through fate we have crossed paths
I hope with time all that now seems black
And secrets locked in a hidden trunk
You'll leave behind and take my track.
New feelings that in time love surpasses
Fears and tears discussed, problems crack
Emotions shared in long stemmed glasses.

-----

Units of Love

Wings
Each of us is an angel with one wing
And we can only fly by embracing each other.
Luciano De Crescenzo

Your wings have touched my heart unlike any other
Each time we meet and love and then sever
I have known you all my life and many more
In truth I know our lives are bonded forever.
The circles of life touch us right to the core
Life's circle continues and so again we part
But we will know now life and life forever
We'll meet, our wings will touch our heart.
Next time who knows where fate will lead us
Destiny will always mesh our hearts together
I pray they will bring us ever closer plus.
I know, the wheel slows down each time
The circle narrows becoming our umbilicus
Until at last our lives become ever twined.

-----

Winter Love

Winters black cloak now covers all the land
Spreading her dark cold fingers freezing life
The colours of life are now no longer to hand
Withdrawn and sleeping from winters strife.
I meet thee my love, sheltered, safe so grand.
Outside as weather rages with storms sleeting
Inside soft candles light and log fires warm
Tightly holding each other, kissing, greeting.
And now we pair look into each others eyes
Whilst we closely dance, rekindling such charm,
All seeing in love filling the room with our sighs.
Music, soft sensuous rhythms fill the room
No worries, no more doubt we have our prize
Flashes of passion explode dispelling the gloom..

-----

Xtinction of all

I love thee as I love naught else
Thy sweet smile completes my everyday.
Each time thou smiles at me my heart melts
I love thee completely and in every way.
My love's grown o'er time there is no impulse
I love thee for no other reason, save you.
A sense of pleasure when in your presence
Even when annoyed at me thou art no shrew.
Springs first day has not your power to enthral
The aroma after rain has not your essence
Nor the power of which you can always call.
Ever I shall love thee a conclusion foregone.
I shall love thee till the 'xtinction of all
And even then my love will continue on.

-----

Your Presence

I feel your presence all the time
I feel your soul and mine touching
Our lives begin to intertwine
This feeling to me is everything
To you I dedicate each rhyme
My body, my soul every feeling
Your presence makes me want to sing
As I feel your soul and mine touching
Through lives together spirits climb
Close to nirvana our lives we bring
Until that moment that is sublime
We will sit together on that star
When we will then possess everything
We'll have travelled together very far.

Alaskan Gold Rush

Panning for gold upon Alaskan mountains
Shall not be as simple as one would think
Thats why the dogs come forth to maintain
Their right of way shall be upon the brink
Of a slippery ice and snowbound terrain
It may only be reached by dog and sleigh
As they relentlessly pan for a fools gold
Knowing within that greed may not pay
But their master shall ever have his say
There is gold within the river three fold
In the way that he knew how to succeed
If only the river was not of ice nor snow
Yet the dogs were of a malamute breed
Instinctive within is all they shall know.

Bella Luna

Moonlight shadows that float upon the sea
The caressing of wavelets upon silken skin
How sensually calm those riplets shall be
That unites the warmth of passion therein
Of love sweet love that shall ever be free
That may ever be desired within an ocean
All that is calm shall forever be the same
Displays warmth of this eternal devotion
That together portrays as much emotion
A sense of touch may never cause shame
When both lovers feel the same way too
That shall display within both lovers eyes
Just something they really planned to do
Until the tidal flow shall ebb and arise .

Country Lass

'Twas a country lass she was to be
Scotland was to be her home land
Worked the land so wild and free
Tilled the soil with a gentle hand
About as far as her eye could see
What was once the battle ground
Of Scottish warriors within her past
No weapons of war were around
All was silent not one battle sound
when peace within resumed at last
Calmer the days of pipe and drum
When a sun shone through the glen
Silence upon the highlands succumb
Afore a country lass shall till again.

Art by Henry Ryland

-----

Deserted Desert

Blinded by the dust within my eyes.
Parched by the heat of a desert sun
As wavelets of sand dunes ever rise
Mirage of an oasis tho`never a one
No sign of the men that were wise
But this was never a biblical scene
I being completely here on my own
The most forsaken place I had been
Never a drop of rain ever to be seen
Upon an arid scorched climatic zone
I swear I may never return here again
A hundred camels shall never entice
Return visits to this fosaken terrain
Memories upon Earth shall suffice.

-----

Eastern Promise

Your words radiate of warmth within
Eyes that melt the very heart of love
Yet why say those who name it a sin
When spoken in prayers high above
If the passion is there let love begin.
let no man say what is right or wrong
For inner feelings shall rule this day
Tis now they know they both belong
Who may break a heart that is strong
Tis for all to decide to love or betray
They are ever to stay just as they are
Cherishing love as a sweet bouquet
Love shall arise upon a morning star
Then bliss shall never be far away.

Faftra Tantra

-----

Eternal Lovers

My love I have become mesmerized
So much I cannot hide my love for you
Much more than I had ever realized
It may be you that I shall be closer to
I shall never again be as traumatised
Into thinking our love was only a game
Yet I had felt all within just one touch
Which told me you had felt the same
The love we have shall bring no shame
Two minds that think the same as such
Shall be so much closer both together
And the dance of love shall ever go on
Within the growth of scented heather
Where both shadow's remain forever.

-----

Fantasia Lunare

I saw the moon from my bed last night
and I had thought only of you and I
making love 'neath the moon so bright,
within optical illusions across the sky
yet could this only be a lovers insight
that drifts aimlessly throughout space
for an eternity we shall ever be free
like whirl winds that dance with grace
gifts of illusion shall be within ecstasy
that loving thoughts may never let go
within clarity of the bright lunar moon
that only within both hearts that show
but phases of the moon fade too soon
yet love deep within may forever grow.

-----

Lone Wolf (Myth)

A wolf should never walk all alone
When he belongs within his pack
Within the forest he remains prone
His predators he cannot fight back
The plight is not of blood and bone
Yet he howls his song to the moon
His was the call from wild unto wild
No other of his pack shall commune
Up high within a mountains lagoon
A lone wolf shall ever be compiled
To hunt all alone was never to be
Each gains a place within his pack
There was never to be a conferee
For a lone wolf may wander back.y

-----

Natural Jungle

I say old boy please assist me do
I was never akin to jungle prattle
But I cannot find your public loo.
I have just flown in from Seattle
But found not a thing here to view
And I might tell you I cannot wait
I have great needs but cannot use
Yet I fear I may be a trifle too late
I suppose I may have to rely on fate
But fingers point and natives accuse
What the natives do anything may go
So maybe that I should do the same
They say in Seattle go with the flow
For natural needs they have no shame.

-----

Oceanic Spirit

She but a spirit of the deep ocean
Cast forever within a watery tomb
Upon a slimy bed of seaweed green
Now rests within the oceans womb
Years after remains here unseen
As the spirit of a mermaids ghost
That rests`neath the murky water
Such a far cry from an inland coast
For past spirits shall all be her host
If she is still a spirit in the here after
Then it was only truly meant to be
Awashed beneath the oceans wave
Cast aside by the waves of the sea
Nigh upon depth of a watery grave.

-----

Poetess To Tutor

If poetic words are meant to impress
Then who am I that shall ever know
When my words are a jumbled mess
That shall never evenly flow
May it be you that I should address
Words you see do not come with ease
When I try to be as composed
And when i find my chance to seize
It is then my composure shall freeze
So much so that I feel as morose'd
Can you see the predicament I am in
All I can say is although I have tried
I cannot see right now if I should win
Oh and yes I even sat down and cried.

-----

Realism Within Space

I who hath travelled a vast domain
Upon the great universe upon space
Floating on gravity was not so insane
Hovering over the earths blue face
Within this calm peace I shall gain
All I may of wished for upon earth
But fantasy ruled as fact remained
I had felt content upon upper berth
Deeper within I had felt much worth
Within the adventure that I gained
To float weightless thro' a universe
Even if it was just a timeless dream
I shall ever be the one to converse
Though unprobable this may seem.

Maria - Michael Parkes

-----

Silence Within

Deep in a woodland I shall ever be
as a silhouette amidst the forest
though silent within I shall be free
To be a part myself I like the best
for silence within shall ever be me
being a loner upon my own choice
May be in my element within nature
midst the trees song of natures voice
and all of Earths woodland creatures
Peace and serenity I shall feel within
like a statuette I may never grieve
tho' I may remain silent ever herein
A relic within the forest I shall weave
tales of the past when sap runs thin.

Try,Try,Yet Again

A chimpanzee climbs to the top of a tree
He did it just to claim poetic inspiration
little did he know that a swarm of bees
Had spawned yet another generation
But you see it was a challenge for he
Which was all he had ever cared about
Who else but a chimp within his rhyme
May ever be of substance never a lout
That clings to the boughs so tired out
Who knows when he runs out of time
Or falls to the bottom within his plight
The lord knows he can say he has tried
Best to be ignorant than to lose insight
At least upon instinct he never relied.

All That Remains
Texte: Put your mouthful of words away
- From the Garden by Anne Sexton

In a kiss we silenced the sound of words
And listened to the echoes of desire
Each touch so soft like the feathers of birds
Yet as fierce as the raging flames of fire
As senses stampede like wild roaming herds
On the dry savannah plains; just a kiss
Offering my spirit to your embrace
Just a kiss; a leap into love's abyss
No more words, there is nothing to be said
When our lips meet and we stand face to face
Fulfilling the dream that has filled my head
For far too long; and now our love is real
And all those doubts and fears have long been shed
Now all that remains is for us to feel

-----

Thought Clouds

The ways of love are not easy to find
When words must also be backed up by deed
That question echoes again through my mind
But now it is not her answer I need
Just mine; and to myself I’m never kind
I think too much it has been often said
I worry over nothing and lose my sight
With thought clouds gathering inside my head
While looking for answers that can’t be there
What if I think in a different light;
And face the challenge and take up the dare
Convince myself, no thoughts just wait and see
That the powers of fate are playing fair
And all will be as it is meant to be

After the storm

Storms have abated, the world is at rest;
a timid sun has left her hiding place,
she brings back light and warmth, till then repressed.
Relieved the flowers raise their head, no trace
of thunder in the sky, a smiling jest.
The first shy words are answered with much care,
as no one wants to risk to rile the gods;
our talking is accompanied by prayer.
Slowly, slowly, our motto for today
from far away I hear someone applauds.
Doors are opened, shutters taken away,
the sun gets stronger, no more chance of rain;
at least awhile our sky is free of grey.
Peace will heal us when words are kept restrained.

-----

Close to me

Some days I know you're close to me again,
behind me in the car, or in my room.
Death cannot alter feelings, they remain
alive within my heart, stay free from gloom;
our souls are still connected, that is plain.
We spent our youth together, were in love
for many years till Fate drew us apart,
yet now we're close once more, though you're above.
You were my lover, husband, then a friend,
divorce did not erase you from my heart;
A friendship born from love in time transcends.
Some days I feel you're looking down on me,
when I am with our sons, your presence blends;
together we are four, though we're just three.

-----

Dead-end street

My mind is empty, I've run out of thought.
The words just falter, come to a standstill
no matter how I try, it adds to naught.
I'm lost inside a maze of hurt and chill
as speech is paralyzed, emotions clot.
A dead-end street where signs have disappeared,
all doors in sight are locked, with shutters closed;
the sun is hiding behind clouds, dirt-smeared.
This suffocating silence doesn't serve
in comforting raw nerve ends now exposed.
If only we could make a sudden swerve,
reach out towards each other, touching hands,
then maybe, thoughts would start to flow and curve.

-----

Inside

Inside my house I have a special place
a room for myself where I read and write
here I find solitude, its warm embrace;
here I can study, here I can recite.
Inside my heart I have a special space,
created deep within my inner core
it is my base, my goal and daily guide
through life, this Self I joyously explore.
In meditation I am close to Thee
in yoga practise I follow your tide;
obeying and discipline sets me free.
I listen to your name, see thoughts pass by,
they are like cloud-ships, or the waves at sea.
I focus inwards and let my soul fly.

-----

A Lazy Afternoon

You hold me close, we're in a warm cocoon
where growing passion keeps us both enthralled.
Your touch upon my skin will make me swoon;
at fingers daring dance my breath ‘most stalled -
this afternoon's slow loving is a boon.
It started with a look, a chance comment,
but soon our inner fire sparkles bright
hot flames consuming us till we were spent.
Our little death brings tenderness and peace
atonement through our mutual delight;
contentment with recaptured sweet caprice.
There might come days when life looks less ideal,
if we forget that laughter can increase
and strengthen our bond, with love's appeal.

-----

A new start

The aftermath of war brings quietude
as guns ran out of ammunition's lead;
is this peace, or a passing interlude?
Too many of the living souls are dead,
others are drawing back in solitude.
We were once light of heart, where did it go?
We've lost our innocence during the fight,
we're burdened with past deeds we dare not show.
I hope that from the ashes of this war
new laughter can be born to make life bright,
maybe, one future day, our souls will soar.
Man needs to be forgiven from the heart,
as wounds untreated, you cannot ignore;
with love hurt souls are lead to a new start.

-----

Out of Darkness into the Light

When I feel low, it helps to draw aside
the veils that cloud my mind, prevent its spark
to raise and warm my soul, of love denied.
My inner world grows empty, cold and dark,
my mirrored eyes look sad, have lost their pride.
All I can do is bow my head and wait
till energy returns so I can pull
myself away from fetters 'luring fate.
Self-preservation wins this deadly game,
my cup feels no more empty, it streams full
of light, in meditating on your name.
I'm feeling vigorous, my mind is clear
as I feel cherished, am no longer shamed.
To disciplines once chosen, I'll adhere.

-----

Summer Time

In summer time we live outside, enjoy
our garden with the birds that come to feed;
they are used to our cat, she won't annoy
the doves or other feathered friendly breed.
all know her now, a trust she shan't destroy.
Most lunch and dinnertimes we eat outside,
the grass feels nice and fresh beneath our feet,
we're moving with the shade our trees provide.
The evening sun still warms the wooden bench,
we drink our evening coffee there, content;
we take each other's hand and warmly clench.
These summer days are nice in autumn's life,
we realize that future times might blench.
Let's treasure present comforts without strife.

-----

Surya Namaskar

With Surya Namaskar I greet the sun,
each morning after meditation's rite -
a yoga discipline I will not shun.
I feel how blood flows through my veins, incite
my body to wake up now night is gone.
I'm focused on my breath and moving limbs,
my mind is clear as thoughts just fade away.
In following each posture, my cup brims,
Sun's salutation draws me deep within
my inner place where I can rest, allay.
Filled with new energy I lift my chin,
ready to face whatever life will give.
My hands are steady and I've trust therein,
I'm learning to listen, obey and live.

-----

Thoughts about life

I am thinking about life and love these days,
my former work and job that are no more.
It's been a year since starting pension's phase
and I watch scenes from a more peaceful shore.
It took a year to find my feet and praise
these hours free to spend on a new task-
I find this age is best to turn within.
Touched by your grace I lay aside my mask,
no need to hide my inner face to you
who can look into me, right through my skin;
I offer you myself, as you are true.
One day I'll die and rest within your peace,
my body I'll lay down with fond adieu
my soul is free to join your sweet release.
