2015 Poetry Form Challenge

#15 Villanelle

The Villanelle is a wonderfully challenging poetry form. It consists of ninteen lines which comprise of two rhymes that are very different in the way they are used.
The unique thing about this form is that the first and third lines of the first verse become the alternating final lines of the next four verses. So the choice of the first and last line is very important and more so because in the last stanza they form a couplet and become the "Closure".
If things weren't difficult enough already, all the 2nd lines of each stanza rhyme with each other.
The Dylan Thomas Poem below, is considered to be the finest example of this form and to help look at the rhyme patterns I've broken the lines into colour. Purple has been cosen for the first line and Red for third line of the first stanza.
The first line of each follows the first stanza rhyme.
Blue for the centre line rhyme. This line is probably the most important line in each stanza and the most difficult one to construct and I would recommend care in selecting your primary rhyme.

Do Not Go Gentle Into That Good Night,

Do not go gentle into that good night,
Old age should burn and rave at close of day;
Rage, rage against the dying of the light.

Though wise men at their end know dark is right,
Because their words had forked no lightning they
Do not go gentle into that good night,

Good men, the last wave by, crying how bright
Their frail deeds might have danced in a green bay,
Rage, rage against the dying of the light.

Wild men who caught and sang the sun in flight,
And learn, too late, they grieved it on its way,
Do not go gentle into that good night,

Grave men, near death, who see with blinding sight
Blind eyes could blaze like meteors and be gay,
Rage, rage against the dying of the light.

And you, my father, there on the sad height,
Curse, bless, me now with your fierce tears, I pray.
Do not go gentle into that good night,
Rage, rage against the dying of the light.

They Challenged Me

They challenged me to write a villanelle
And I was inclined to attempt this feat,
But I'm not sure I did it very well.

I gave it my best shot, oh what the hell
Threw fear aside and jumped in with both feet...
They challenged me to write a villanelle.

And even though I hear a warning bell
Too late for doubts, can't leave it incomplete:
But I'm not sure I did it very well.

I wonder why on earth I let them sell
Me the idea... am tempted to retreat.
They challenged me to write a villanelle

But I'm no quitter that much I can tell
You, so I refused to concede defeat,
But I'm not sure I did it very well.

It's nearly done and I can almost smell
The scent of victory, and it is sweet.
They challenged me to write a villanelle
But I'm not sure I did it very well.

These Looks

Old looks, new looks, lost and forgotten,
Deserted gardens where wishes can't be found
Are places in the heart, plausible though misbegotten.

Remembering a sandy beach we walked when
The eyes of love shared in an impromptu romp, round
Old looks, new looks, lost and forgotten.

There are no words left to write or speak when
The look of love has left the stage iracund,
And places in the heart, plausible though misbegotten.

Such day dreams can never be truly gotten
For the earth has turned her face away to confound
Old looks, new looks, lost and forgotten.

Flirtations of the eyes that hold common emotion
Are the stuff of romances on the rebound
And places in the heart, plausible though misbegotten.

And now another day gone unenlightened
For two souls wishes become infound
Old looks, new looks, lost and forgotten,
With places in the heart, plausible though misbegotten.

Darkness Looms

When darkness looms, tomorrow fades away
No comforting light shines upon or within
It's hard to see beyond this part of day.

Tonight only foulest evil shall hold sway
And blackest night shall pave the way for sin
When darkness looms, tomorrow fades away.

Deep in the night is when the wicked play
Fixating on sorrow's gruelling tailspin
It's hard to see beyond this part of day.

Around this corruption purest white turns grey
Night creatures shrieks are making a hellish din
When darkness looms, tomorrow fades away

All living things seem hollow, yet full of decay
As long as it stays dark, evil will always win
It's hard to see beyond this part of day.

Corruption and decay, lusting from evils prey
All this to whiteness and goodness's chagrin
When darkness looms, tomorrow fades away
It's hard to see beyond this part of day.

Esta Muerta

For a while I knew someone
Who made me feel complete
Smiling now though she is gone

For a while she was the one
Who simply swept me off my feet
For a while I knew someone

When she died life was done
And for a while I felt I was beat
Smiling now though she is gone

Love had briefly shone upon
Two souls that did briefly meet
For a while I knew someone

Soul mate and I meet once again
Finally the closure is complete
Smiling now though she is gone

There was no battle, no defeat
There is no need to compete
For a while I knew someone
Smiling now though she is gone.

Experience

Past experience tells me I should forget
Yet there are things we should remember
But not the times of blood, tears and sweat.

And mans stupidity and greed lingers yet
But this is all laid aside each November
Past experience tells me I should forget

That I was not there, I do not regret
And yet am proud to be called digger
But not the times of blood, tears and sweat.

There are memories of a shared cigarette
Death came with the third burning ember
Past experience tells me I should forget

Every decade world leaders refuse to commit
Whilst wall street remains the moneygrubber
But not the times of blood, tears and sweat.

For the lessons learned we are in their debt
The guilty and the greedy mentally slumber.
Past experience tells me I should forget
But not the times of blood, tears and sweat.

Full Moons Light

As I lead you by the hand into the night
We steal away from the cares of the day
Our way is well lit by the full moons light.

Our hearts sure what we're doing is right
And of tomorrows woe's no hint give they
As I lead you by the hand into the night.

The shadowy flutter of an owl in flight
Leads us happily along the wooded way
Our way is well lit by the full moons light.

I gaze at you, seeing eyes that shine so bright
Craving that this moment should ever stay
As I lead you by the hand into the night.

In the woods our loving bodies finally unite
And love we will until the break of day
Our way is well lit by the full moons light.

Now ever bound together by this loving rite
As arms and limbs are laced in our interplay
As I lead you by the hand into the night
Our way is well lit by the full moons light.

-----

Gambler

Our lives and love are just like a card game
All hoping that fate will deal us out a hand
So different and yet we always wish the same.

Each time a new card, each chance is not the same
All hoping fervently for a love so grand
Your love and life are all like a card game

The lights are dim, the Ace of hearts your aim
You have 16 to show, do you draw or stand?
So different and yet we always wish the same.

Is fate being cruel? A single spade within the frame
Three cards now you are holding in your hand
Our lives and love are just like a card game

You buy a card, dare to look. It's value is the same
And now what? Dare you see what fate has planned
So different and yet we always wish the same.

You can bust, lay them down and make your claim
Any card above a three and you are dammed
Our lives and love are just like a card game
So different and yet we always wish the same.

Heavenly Thoughts

As Earth casts her shadow over the moon
She's slowly lost her shape whilst circling us
Each passing night more and more is hewn.

Two days each month only stars light the gloom
Lunar darkness is simply Earths motherly buss
As Earth casts her shadow over the moon

One night Earth slowly unwraps her cocoon
Night by night Luna becomes more adventurous
Each passing night more and more is hewn.

For a night she's as bright as the Sun at noon
Poems are written because she is so glamorous
As Earth casts her shadow over the moon

In this light lovers make their vows and swoon
Luna naturally creates a mood that's amorous
With each passing day more and more is hewn.

Her next visit will be a month, never too soon
Any later would be terrible and very atrocious
As Earth casts her shadow over the moon
With each passing day more and more is hewn.

-----

I Can See

I can see right through you
Your love is only paper thin
All you did was make me blue.

Sitting here waiting for you
Your love was only paper thin
I can see right through you.

Is our love at long last through
Wondering where you've been.
All you did was make me blue.

You promised ever to be true
You smell of him a smell of sin
I can see right through you.

Your silence says we are through
It didn't work, to my chagrin
I can see right through you
All you did was make me blue.

Oceanic Thoughts

Sitting on the empty beach alone on the sand,
There is the orange fire sky of the setting sun
Inside's a desire for my lover in another land.

Things went perfect, better than we had planned,
No regrets at all for what we have begun
Sitting on the empty beach alone on the sand.

The water rushes in and out greeting my hand.
And I remember kisses and things we'd done
Inside's a desire for my lover in another land.

Although my heart aches, I think I understand
You are now my Queen and I your champion,
Sitting on the empty beach alone on the sand.

I want to run in the water, and splash around
With my memories of our times, and of our fun
Inside's a desire for my lover in another land.

I wonder does my lover have thoughts so grand
Is there anything she'd wish to have undone
Sitting on the empty beach alone on the sand,
There is the orange fire sky of the setting sun.

-----

Prisoner of Love

Like a prisoner you have me bound to you
But not with chains of hard blue steel
No counting days and weeks till freedom due.

There was no crime, or deed, or whistle blew
There are no prison bars, my hands to feel
Like a prisoner you have me bound to you.

Instead its bonds of love that the angels brew
A wound from Cupid's dart that will not heal
No counting days and weeks till freedom due.

No fear of breakout or escape, no strike or coup
My life is sealed by chance, just one deal
Like a prisoner you have me bound to you.

I'll be a model prisoner, I will not go askew
Forever true and honest and on an even keel
No counting days and weeks till freedom due.

Instead the end of each passing day I rue
You can guarantee, there will be no appeal.
Like a prisoner you have me bound to you
No counting days and weeks till freedom due.

Release

As silently, I creep to your bedside
Heavy breath, desirously driven
Tonight, our lust will not be denied!

Fevered body burning hot inside
Wanton thirst for what will be given
As silently, I creep to your bedside

Your sleep lost in wait as I slip beside
Wanting love and whatever is bidden
Tonight, our lust will not be denied!

My lips are hungry your body is fired
In our passion nothing will be hidden
As silently, I creep to your bedside

Feel my touch, your need to be satisfied
The path to release once more is ridden
Tonight, our lust will not be denied!

Finally liberated, our love is cried
And vows eternal are finally given.
As silently, I creep to your bedside
Tonight, our lust will not be denied!

Time Will Tell

Love's waiting across the room for that first look,
The first smile and the first tremor that says it all
That moment realising you're completely hooked.

There have been no guidelines set in any book
There is no mentor waiting for you to call
Love's waiting across the room for that first look.

Facebook tells you the site is always fully booked
And those that have found it can easily recall
That moment realising you're completely hooked.

There is naught you won't do, by hook or by crook
On your knees on broken glass you would crawl
Love's waiting across the room for that first look.

No faults, there's nothing needed to overlook
The truth is there within fates crystal ball
That moment realising you're completely hooked.

And you find contentment, now you have looked
In comparison all your previous lovers pall.
Love's waiting across the room for that first look
That moment realising you're completely hooked.

Victims Roll

Once we were lovers, now that love has gone
Replaced by nothing, just leaving a black hole
Why can't you come back so we can carry on?

I always knew that I was your only one
We grew to believe we shared just one soul
Once we were lovers, now that love has gone.

Now all those dreams I must forever abandon
This one evil act has taken us out of control
Why can't you come back so we can carry on?

This ungodly act was by one of Satan's spawn
And just like a criminal, my heart he stole.
Once we were lovers, now that love has gone.

There will be no jail, and Heaven's no home
And again Hell will take in a fellow ***hole
Why can't you come back so we can carry on?

This is no heroic war, it's where cowards fawn
Adding women and kids to their victims roll.
Once we were lovers, now that love has gone
Why can't you come back so we can carry on?

Zeehan Sunsets

I see no auras or bright flashes from the sun
All I see is a red glow across the land,
Merely signs that night has at last begun.

In the mountains in the east life is done
As the blackness of night starts to expand
I see no auras or bright flashes from the sun

The magnificent scene bows to what has come
Darkness hiding what is "Tasmania's grand"
Merely signs that night has at last begun.

The world most beautiful spot has been outdone
But it is all arranged and what nature planned
I see no auras or bright flashes from the sun

Beauty would become boring, Nature undone
She changes the scene so she might expand
Merely signs that night has at last begun.

With the morn, the scene refreshed, equal to none,
Witness the sight, and then you'll understand.
I see no auras or bright flashes from the sun
Merely signs that night has at last gone.

Artistic Prose

Who said that art is of a silent prose
Of natural studies betwixt pen and ink
As an artist within his muse shows.

Within a woodland scene that grows
With rhyme and easel upon the brink
Who said that art is of a silent prose.

Yet his inner wisdom clearly knows
That rhythmic art may never shrink
As an artist within his muse shows.

Shades of a natural sunlight throws
Natural warmth to those that think
Who said that art is of a silent prose.

When artistic images forever flows
Poetic stance shall ever interlink
As an artist within his muse shows.

Wisdom has many high's and low's
Enough just to make the bards blink
Who said that art is of a silent prose.
As an artist within his muse shows.

The Cock Doth Crow

The rooster crowed at the break of dawn
Awakening me from my slumber deep
Much too early I had no breath to yawn.

When the dew was still wet on the lawn
If only I had finished my precious sleep
The rooster crowed at the break of dawn.

I think my alarm clock must of tuned on
For as usual the precious time did keep
Much too early I had no breath to yawn.

Within the hay the hens had slept upon
He just had to force the sneekiest peep
The rooster crowed at the break of dawn.

Every one knows a rooster cannot spawn
He remains within slumber upon a heap
Much too early I had no breath to yawn.

Blessed be the rooster that be withdrawn
Without a chicken he shall never reap
The rooster crowed at the break of dawn
Much too early I had no breath to yawn.

Desire To Inspire

May it be deep within thy hearts desire
That I responded to love from only thee
To cast aside words that may not inspire

This love that lingers shall not ever tire
For love shall be fanciful and ever as free
May it be deep within thy hearts desire.

Let love such as ours be flames of fire
It is there deep within for us all to see
I cast aside words that may not inspire.

If I be your lady shall thee be my sire?
I think thou might be satisfied with me
May it be deep within thy hearts desire.

When the heat is akin to a burnng pyre
Then ashes maybe all that is left of we.
To cast aside words that may not inspire.

All we hear shall be an old town cryer
By the ashes of an ancient oaken tree
May it be deep within thy hearts desire.
To cast aside words that may not inspire.

-----

Lull of the Storm

Today shall tomorrow be within the past
So do not put off what you do this day
For the lull of the storm time shant last.

When future seasons shall forever cast
What we have always had clean away
Today shall tomorrow be within the past.

We may be like ships without a mast
It shall only be mankind left to pray
For the lull of the storm time shant last.

The price of wars pay within the blast
There may be nothing we can do or say
Today shall tomorrow be within the past.

Yet survival of humanity may still be vast
But the future ahead shall for ever relay
For the lull of the storm time shant last.

Plans for the future may ever be dashed
But it may be time itself shall delay
Today shall tomorrow be within the past
For the lull of the storm time shant last.

My Pledge of Love

I may not keep you tied to apron strings
For I kind of like my man to be a man
I could think of more intimate things.

So softly the voices of love that sings
Which was ever to be part of my plan
I may not keep you tied to apron strings.

I may not be your angel without wings
Yet I could do the very best and I can
I could think of more intimate things.

Who knows what mysteries love brings
That lies deep within since time began
I may not keep you tied to apron strings.

How can you deprive a heart that sings
That is much hotter than a frying pan
I could think of more intimate things.

I think I may be away with the starlings
That had escaped far from Klu Klux Klan
I may not keep you tied to apron strings
I could think of more intimate things.

Once In A Dream

Once in a dream I perceived a vision
Of a planet that was alike no other
That never comes round with precision

But from an oblong kind of incision
May it be a sign from earths brother
Once In a dream I perceived a vision.

May it be mother natures decision
Shall it alter the flow of the weather
That never comes round with precision.

It maybe only of a spacious illusion
Upon soft clouds of purple heather
Once in a dream I perceived a vision.

Was this to be earths future intrusion
Petals within the breeze as a feather
That never comes round with precision

Yet this may cause us much confusion.
For mother nature may never blether
Once in a dream I perceived a vision
That never comes round with precision.

Pleasures Of Love

The pleasures of love last only a moment
Yet I remembered forever deep within
Or was it only maybe a tease to torment.

Cupid they say was the only one that sent
An arrow to the heart pierced deeply in
The pleasures of love last only a moment.

Yet what befell of this heart felt lament
Some say `twas more sorrowful than sin
Or was it only maybe a tease to torment.

Spells that were cast came as they went
Fables of old were never to lose nor win
The pleasures of love last only a moment.

For Grecian Gods were of heaven sent
The story retold was of the Gemini twins
Or was it only maybe a tease to torment.

But if there was a cloud upon high to rent
It is of Gemini where the likeness begins
The pleasures of love last only a moment
Or was it only maybe a tease to torment.

Purely Fantasy

If I was your queen and you my King
Within a galaxy of sparkling starlight
We may never yearn for another thing.

Doves of a feather shall forever sing
'Neath a full moon upon this night
If I was your queen and you my King.

Peace and tranquillity love may bring
Our futuristic love shall feel just right
We may never yearn for another thing.

Shooting stars shall ever be inspiring
Upon this our haven of future insight
If I was your queen and you my King.

Angels shall fly as birds upon the wing
Clad within misted shrouds of white
We may never yearn for another thing.

May be no such thing as apron strings
Nor headaches through out the night
If I was your queen and you my King.
We may never yearn for another thing.

-----

Sound Of Silence

What is better than to read a book
Within a quiet haven of own accord
Perusing alone within a shady nook.

'Tis all within mind to take a look
Not a thing alike the written word
What is better than to read a book.

Peace shall be with you by the brook
As fantasies within may be explored
Perusing alone within a shady nook.

Tales of wonder as earth once shook
Thundrous earthquakes soon ignored
What is better than to read a book.

Beguiling tales within fantasies took
The tedium away from one so bored
Perusing alone within a shady nook.

Within bough`s above spies the rook
Scanning below for a tasty reward
What is better than to read a book
Perusing alone within a shady nook.

-----

The Spiders Web

Bleak the night shadows cast a gloom
No starlight brightens darkened skies
Yet a spider wove his web upon a loom.

Within the earthen floor rests a tomb
To awaken the spirit within is unwise
Bleak the night shadows cast a gloom.

Deep in the heart of an earthen womb
Lost unto a silent grave with no apprise
Yet a spider wove his web upon a loom.

'Neath this depth we can only presume
There shall be no means to improvise
Bleak the night shadows cast a gloom.

Silence shall be not of the sonic boom
Without a thought left to compromise
Yet a spider wove his web upon a loom.

Life beneath earth shall never resume
Never a chance within what underlies
Bleak the night shadows cast a gloom
Yet a spider wove his web upon a loom.

Times Lost

I shall not think of times I lost
Wayward bound my muse was many a day
Thoughtless words count the cost.

Though I suffered so much more than most
For most times I had not much more to say
I shall not think of times I lost.

Though shy I was never a one to be the host
But many a time I would kneel down and pray
Thoughtless words count the cost.

Sometimes i think to give up the ghost
Oft times I know there may be another way
I shall not think of times I lost.

I may do a search from coast to coast
With no sense of direction I may overstay
Thoughtless words count the cost.

I shall raise my glass to thee I toast
And forget all my misfortunes in disarray
I shall not think of times I lost
Thoughtless words count the cost.

The Vagrant

He walks the streets a lonely old man
The streets of London were his home
He slept in doorways the best he can.

How could his community forever ban
A vagrant who was destined to roam
He walks the streets a lonely old man

Tho' aged he shall be so pale and wan
His unwashed locks never saw a comb
He slept in doorways the best he can

Features are lost thro`a sun baked tan
Too soon may be interred in thy tomb
He walks the streets a lonely old man.

Too much waste within a garbage pan
That is scattered unto earth as loam
He slept in doorways the best he can.

Some say that his name was once Dan
Who sold his shirt to pay off his loan
He walks the streets a lonely old man
He sleeps in doorways the best he can.

Wolf Song

A wolf stands high to howl at the moon
For he is the leader of a wild wolf pack
His call may be replied by others soon

Mayhap he is calling to an ancient rune
That casts a spell on a wolverine track
A wolf stands high to howl at the moon.

For eerie the song within a dark lagoon
That echo`s thro`the wilderness back
His call may be replied by others soon.

Only the meek shall suffer natures boon
For leadership shall be what they lack
A wolf stands high to howl at the moon.

Within the wilderness wolves may croon
Only the leader shall inherit the knack
His call may be replied by others soon.

When darkness beckons a spiritual tune
`Tis only the meek that shall not attack
A wolf stands high to howl at the moon
His call may be replied by others soon.

Anastasia Romanov

Princess Anastasia so alone in the rain
Such was innocence of beauty and grace
Where shall she flee from memory lane.

She who had witnessed torture and pain
Who had disappeared with out a trace
Princess Anastasia so alone in the rain.

Never to see her precious family again
What hurt and anguish befell her race
Where shall she flee from memory lane.

Some had searched for her but in vain
Believed once again to recall her face
Princess Anastasia so alone in the rain.

Unfortunate fate for the Romanov name
A fallen empire they can never replace
Where shall she flee from memory lane.

What of her anguish her family was slain
Was it she had to witness this disgrace
Princess Anastasia so alone in the rain
Where shall she flee from memory lane.

Autumns Child

Oh autumns child come hither now and blow
Gentle gusts of breath on a heavy branch
Before the winter winds bring forth the snow.

Crinkled leaves scatter on the earth below
Here and there they fly in a frenzied dance
Oh autumns child come hither now and blow.

Forever remaining the cosy nest of the crow
Oblivious to the seasons in her rigid stance
Before the winter winds bring forth the snow.

Let the rains bring music the earth to bestow.
To cover the leaves making loam to enhance
Oh autumns child come hither now and blow.

Shine full bright moon on the forest we know
Let the winds come forth for a final chance
Before the winter winds bring forth the snow.

Seasons may come and the seasons may go
Fine shades of autumn are natures romance
Oh Autumns child come hither now and blow
Before the winter winds bring forth the snow.

An Ocean of Love

Gazing outwards to sea with pride
She waited inland from the shore
So long since he wedded his bride

Many months their love was denied
Thought he would sail back no more
His ship returned from oceans wide.

Casting dreams of love to one side
Man shall always need to explore
So long since he wedded his bride.

One day soon he shall stand beside
With his promises of love to restore
His ship returned from oceans wide.

Sailing home from the great divide
He had travelled many times before
So long since he wedded his bride.

This night he remains by her side
To cherish, to honour and adore
So long since he wedded his bride
His ship returned from oceans wide.

Coat Of Many Colours

In every intention I would set out to do
When I was once young and productive
Stitching was my interest among a few.

With snips of the scissors interest grew
I applied my trimming so constructive
In every intention I would set out to do.

My days then of learning I did a review
At the start it was I who was instructive
Stitching was my interest among a few.

But when my interests changed I knew
Things went wrong I turned destructive
In every intention I would set out to do.

I would lose my patience and turn blue
Release my temper, wild and defensive
Stitching was my interest among a few.

I had learned to tack, to tuck, and sew
Now I am older and much more pensive
Stitching was my interest among a few
In every intention I would set out to do.

In Love

There were no words for we both knew
True love mirrored in both our eyes,
Since that day on our affections grew

Passions of love mutual between two
For us it was never to be a surprise,
There were no words for we both knew.

Our love we now share everyday anew
Closer together as temperatures rise
Since that day on our affections grew.

We know that this love we have is true
To break this bond would be so unwise
There were no words for we both knew.

Soft shades of love with a delicate hue
Spirits that soar to the clear blue skies
Since that day on our affections grew

I saw love written deep in eyes of blue
Mirrored so deep where affection lies
There were no words for we both knew.
Since that day on our affections grew.

Memories Of September

We met in the month September
Golden leaves had started to fade
Memories were ours to remember.

We shared these moments in time
Amidst birds songs sweet serenade
We met in the month of September

No touch could e-er be so sublime
Nor kisses sweeter to persuade
Memories were ours to remember.

Why should loving be such a crime
How can this affection be forbade
We met in the month of September

When love takes an upward climb
It is us who are being displayed
Memories were ours to remember.

Cannot these tongues just resign
Forget their meaningless cherade
We met in the month of September
Memories were ours to remember.

She Stood Alone

She stood alone in the mists of time
I knew she would come back to me
A spirit deep amidst woods sublime.

For a mothers love is always there
Remaining `neath an old oaken tree
She stood alone in the mists of time.

My angel returns her love to share
All pain and suffering broken free
A spirit deep amidst woods sublime.

She died so young life was never fair
New found serenity was meant to be
She stood alone in the mists of time.

Nobody knows how to really prepare
Within heart and mind its hard to see
A spirit deep amidst woods sublime.

For grief seems to be beyond prayer
Only to know she always loved thee
A spirit deep amidst woods sublime
She stood alone in the mists of time.

Once There Were Lilacs

Once there was a lilac tree next door
Heavenly scent floated in the breeze
Now scented blossoms are no more.

The flowers no longer bloom in May
Oh why must people cut down trees
Once there was a lilac tree next door.

Heart shaped leaves a sweet bouquet
Perfect strong and free from disease
Now scented blossoms are no more.

Gone is the beauty of a lilac sachet
Thro` ignorant know it all`s expertise
Once there was a lilac tree next door.

For mother nature betrayed this way
Protected land they cannot foresee
Now scented blossoms are no more.

Why cant they meet nature halfway
And lightly prune not to hack it free
Once there was a lilac tree next door
Now scented blossoms are no more.

Pains of Love

How can I help what I feel inside
Why I wipe my eyes from a tear
Of happiness when love is alive

If parting can be sweet sorrow
Oh why must I now suffer fear
How can I help what I feel inside.

Why in my self pity must I wallow
When my heart can feel no cheer
Of happiness when love is alive.

If only my instincts would follow
Sweet whispers of love in my ear
How can I help what I feel inside.

Maybe I am afraid of tomorrow
Rejection for yet another year
Of happiness when love is alive

Thoughts in my mind grow hollow
To forget is to love and to hear
How can I help what I feel inside
Of happiness when love is alive.

Scatterbrain

I think I may be stuck in a slow lane
Thoughts dont come easy in my mind
When my brain goes against the grain.

I try to achieve a worthier existence
An intelligent life of a different kind
I think I may be stuck in a slow lane.

Tho` my stupidity has no resistance
Things that I do are senseless I find
When my brain goes against the grain.

They say it is age causes persistence
That the memory is often left behind
I think I may be stuck in a slow lane.

Lost in my world never ask assistance
So independant that I remain resigned
When my brain goes against the grain.

Maybe my mind`s lost all consistence
And its time that I left intellect behind
When my brain goes against the grain
I think I may be stuck in a slow lane.

Silken Butterfly

So softly thy satin wings hath flown
Thy eastern promise fluttering nigh
Thy silken butterfly of beauty unknown.

So calm the gentle breeze hath blown
To float all alone in an azure blue sky
So softly thy satined wings hath flown.

Upon sweet blossom of almond grown
Whispered wings on a wind swept sigh
Thy silken butterfly of beauty unknown.

Fluttering hazily midst dandelion down
Thy shall ne-er smile nor e-er shall cry
So softly thy satined wings hath flown.

No finer wings can construe thy gown
Visions of nature which feasts the eye
Thy silken butterfly of beauty unknown.

Thy never worry to wear a deep frown
Weaving fantasies thro` rainbows high
So softly thy satined wings hath flown.
Thy silken butterfly of beauty unknown.

To Love is to Live (Variation)

How can I help what I feel inside
Why you wipe my eyes of a tear
Of happiness when love is alive.

If parting can be sweet sorrow
Oh why must I then suffer fear
How can I help what I feel inside.

Why in self pity must I wallow
When my heart can always cheer
Of happiness when love is alive.

If only my instincts would follow
Sweet whispers of love in my ear
How can I help what I feel inside.

Maybe I am afraid of tomorrow
Rejection for yet another year
Of happiness when love is alive

Thoughts in my mind grow hollow
To love is not blind when it`s near
How can I help what I feel inside
Of happiness when love is alive.

Villanelle Of Love

Pray hold me closer unto thee this night
For thou hath enthralled my very heart
I pray of thee for thus my wanton plight.

This desire for thy love by a tallow light
Shalt cast aside my thoughts to depart
Pray hold me closer unto thee this night.

Within thine arms I shalt feel just right
This divinity of love shalt ne-er be apart
I pray of thee for thus my wanton plight.

For eternity this love shalt ne-er despite
To hold and to nurture passion as an art
Pray hold me closer unto thee this night.

Let soft wings of love to me take flight
Of passionate dreams thy doth impart
I pray of thee for thus my wanton plight

For e-er I pledge thy love to me excite
For love hath flourished from the start
Hold me closer to thee unto this night
I pray of thee for thus my wanton plight

When Love is Blind

Eyes do not see when love is blind
Of fantasy, and imagined inner vision,
Registered in a brain, that is so defined.

If love, and lust, are so much of a kind,
How is one to make, the right decision,
Eyes do not see, when love is blind.

When inner feelings, are there to remind
There must always be, that last revision,
Registered in a brain, that is so defined

Devoted hearts, will both be entwined.
This love possessed, now to envision
Eyes do not see, when love is blind.

Dreams, and thoughts, of love designed
Embraced together in perfect precision,
Registered in a brain, that is so defined.

Love and fantasy, are both combined,
Passion now enters, the final provision
For eyes do not see, when love is blind.
Registered in a brain, that is so defined.

Armistice

He lowers his hat as she wipes her tears,
when a thoughtful hush falls, as battles cease
and our silence reflects over the years.

He comes home battered and torn by his fears
in nightmarish dreams that will never decrease
he lowers his hat as she wipes her tears.

Weary soldiers greeted by grateful cheers,
from the pits of war, a brief release
and our silence reflects over the years.

As they battled on those hellish frontiers,
and life was lost at a bullet's caprice,
he lowers his hat as she wipes her tears,

From private soldiers to the brigadiers,
our sovereignty became their golden fleece
and our silence reflects over the years.

The words of remembrance ring in our ears
in heartfelt hopes and prayers for bless'd peace
he lowers his hat as she wipes her tears,
and our silence reflects over the years.

Betwixt Waning and Waxing

After the last of waning moon
before the waxing of the new
where lies the darker paths of rune.

Let spite be cast and strewn
and far away from me and you
after the last of waning moon

We dance to piper's merry tune
as lunar lore comes into view
where lies the darker paths of rune.

The words of pain be left to croon,
and Queen of Fae shall guide us true
after the last of waning moon.

Listen close where whispers commune
amid the Autumn's vibrant hue
where lies the darker paths of rune.

Secrets revealed too fast, too soon,
yet still our hearts come shining through
after the last of waning moon
where lies the darker paths of rune.

Can Love Reside in Art?

I wonder what she sees when peering in my curtained heart,
do clouds of fortune bring intense reflection
as cries of thought invade my mind; can love reside in art?

Her magic charm invoking pages of the Grimoire's chart,
enchanting aura's discreet fascination;
I wonder what she sees when peering in my curtained heart.

Are mystic dreams now trapped in silica then teased apart?
My dreams of wistful longings mere distraction;
as cries of thought invade my mind; can love reside in art?

Becharming mistress scries the hazy thoughts that gods impart,
but can she see my haunting aspiration?
I wonder what she sees when peering in my curtained heart.

Hypnotic sunsets carry musical strains of Mozart;
can sacred visions inspire such devotion;
as cries of thought invade my mind; can love reside in art?

Beneath her cool composure burns a cold, unbeating heart,
the path that leads beyond my last damnation
I wonder what she sees when peering in my curtained heart,
as cries of thought invade my mind; can love reside in art?

Enchantments of Love

Wrap me within the gaze that bewitches me
Seduce my mind as my lips kiss your soul
Gather me to you and set my heart free

Fingers touch revealing what mystics see
In hazy eyes, find love's magical goal
Wrap me within the gaze that bewitches me

Muted emotions crave spellbound liberty
Enchantments of love mundane doubts console
Gather me to you and set my heart free

A single word can fill my heart with glee
But your eyes reflect where my senses roll
Wrap me within the gaze that bewitches me

The briefest glance denies me reality
Overwhelmed senses I can not control
Gather me to you and set my heart free

In love's chains, show my heart clarity
Lost in your loving eyes I become whole
Wrap me within the gaze that bewitches me
Gather me to you and set my heart free

Heavy on the Vine

Now grapes are hanging heavy on the vine,
in valleys neath the blazing summer sun.
and senses yearn to savour fragrant wine

All thoughts are lost and memories resign,
as dreams recall a time of loving fun,
when grapes were hanging heavy on the vine

For love has flown beyond the mortal line,
but feelings say we are forever one,
and senses yearn to savour fragrant wine

Each night I sleep and find that love is mine,
until the dawn reveals the world I shun
when grapes are hanging heavy on the vine

As reflections fall like silver moonshine,
I whisper on the breeze. 'I love you, hun!'
and senses yearn to savour fragrant wine

Those precious dreams in which our souls combine,
exalt the day my life is truly done
when grapes are hanging heavy on the vine
and senses yearn to savour fragrant wine

Stains of a Kiss

All I have lost thus replaced by love’s gains
When first her kiss reached inside and touched me
Soft on my lip the memory remains

Whilst seeking the solace from heartbreak’s pains
Requesting a moment of liberty
All I have lost thus replaced by love’s gains

My tears hidden among the summer rains
As within her embrace she set me free
Soft on my lip the memory remains

Anticipation while waiting for trains
Will my shattered heart be able to see
All I have lost thus replaced by love’s gains

The power of love pulsing through my veins
Yet steps falter as I’m weak at the knee
Soft on my lip the memory remains

Now on my heart that one kiss gently stains
And I can see what the future can be
All I have lost thus replaced by love’s gains
Soft on my lip the memory remains

Yuletide Night

Will you be here with us this Yuletide night
and join our song of love in ancient days
we greet the dawn in the circle of light

Above, the silver moon is shining bright
as we recall the time of Pagan ways
will you be here with us this Yuletide Night?

In joy and mirth, the sun’s rebirth in sight
a gentle glow that warms the snowy haze
we greet the dawn in the circle of light

The winter’s frosty wind is at it’s height
as in the flames of Yule we sit and gaze
will you be here with us this Yuletide Night?

The Earth is draped in robes of purest white
the log is burning in a fiery blaze
to greet the dawn in the circle of light

As we rejoice and sing our sacred rite
in nature’s wonder our voices raise
will you be here with us this Yuletide night
to greet the dawn in the circle of light

Reason A Poteet

Debate Unraveled

Slander blossoms without root
creating lies and fabrication.
Rumor yields a blemished fruit.

Scandal will flourish while enroute
to whispered, callous augmentation.
Thus slander blossoms without root.

Taking issue with points so moot
deriding truth with orchestration,
such rumors yield a blemished fruit.

Fiendish minions supply the loot
while critics stage a confrontation
and slander blossoms without root.

Humor can serve to feed the brute
counterbalancing altercation
still rumor yields a blemished fruit.

To argue on in disrepute
will serve its own humiliation.
Slander blossoms without root;
rumor yields a blemished fruit.

Cry Loudly

Cry loudly now, creatures of the night
As bent on it's way the creature flies
Leathered wings beat in the moonlight

The maidens open window comes in sight
Hair askew in slumber on her bed she lies
Cry loudly now, creatures of the night

Changing quietly he moves into her sight
At first there is fear, then loves surprise
Leathered wings beat in the moonlight

Her throat, her soul she offers, invites his bite
Eternal life, but death to see the sunrise
Cry loudly now, creatures of the night

Bodies joined in passion their flesh ignite
A Queen created a Queen of Darkness
Leathered wings beat in the moonlight

With vows exchanged in hellish might
His blood she drinks in wantonness
Cry loudly now, creatures of the night
Leathered wings beat in the moonlight.

Dignity

So much to do so much to share
Opening the box with a heavy sigh
With each love a life of care.

Love as much as you would dare.
Helping your lover with tear filled eye
So much to do so much to share.

Last few months you were not there
Our love together its time is nigh
With each love a life of care.

Lying on the bed I stroke your hair
True loves helps when it's time to die
So much to do so much to share.

I wonder of what you are aware
This way means there's no goodbye
With each love a life of care

I hold you close and begin to cry
You touch me as if saying aye.
So much to do so much to share
With each love a life of care.

Left Counting the Stars

Now is the time for tears, no more loud hurrahs
You are gone; my bed is now empty and silent.
With the death of love, I'm left counting the stars.

When our love was new we had no scars
With time and self doubt you missed what I meant.
Now is the time for tears, no more loud hurrahs

Now you have turned your back and put up bars
And all that remains now of you is your scent.
With the death of love, I'm left counting the stars.

There is no prize, no cheers and no fat cigar
Just a terrible feeling of my life being spent.
Now is the time for tears, no more loud hurrahs

Now I see a zero of all I thought was ours
What can I do, can I hope or must I lament?
With the death of love, I'm left counting the stars.

The radio is playing the music of sad guitars
My road to Hell was paved with good intent.
Now is the time for tears, no more loud hurrahs
With the death of love, I'm left counting the stars.

May I?

"May I be your dragon" he said,
She felt his hot breath upon her
"I'd prefer to call you friend instead."

He smiled and shook his scaly head,
"I know your fears and I do concur
May I be your dragon" he said,

"Until now your sight I did dread,
I know now what I do prefer,
I'd prefer to call you friend instead."

"Let's look towards the travels ahead
Enemies, problems, I will deter,
May I be your dragon" he said,

"I now look towards the years ahead
Which will pass in an endless blur.
You are my dragon," she said.
"I'd prefer to call you friend instead."

My shy one

My shy one there is much to be patient of;
Thy eyes say much, soft and gentle,
Thou has quietened in speech my love.

Thy love trembling, fills me with awe, sweet dove
I cherish thee, my arms yearning to cradle
My shy one there is much to be patient of.

Finger traces thy cheek, gentle as Kid glove;
Heart bursting with love none can excel
Thou has quietened in speech my love.

Thou art a precious petal floating above
Come take my hand darling let thy fears dispel
My shy one there is much to be patient of

Your lips tremble as if love to prove
I kiss each finger, my love to tell
Thou has quietened in speech my love.

Be not afraid, take my hand and I’ll remove
all doubts, as entranced I am within your spell
My shy one there is much to be patient of
Thou has quietened in speech my love.

Nature

All things were given to man and his conceit
To live in simple ways upon this Earth
Somewhere to live and an abundance to eat.

Living as one with the Earth, a simple feat
Feeding, nourishing, finding out life's worth
All things were given to man and his conceit

The ancients never had need to steal or cheat
The bosom of Nature is a bountiful berth
Somewhere to live and an abundance to eat.

Some want a world where they are the heat
Where misery is good and the sin is mirth
All things were given to man and his conceit

Those who know, never have to compete
Following ancient ways there is no dearth
Somewhere to live and an abundance to eat.

We must return to the path to be complete
Sharing these wonders from the time of birth.
All things were given to man and his conceit
Somewhere to live and an abundance to eat.

Twilight Glitters

Twilight glitters with unclaimed dreams
Casts away the promises made by the day

Do not live a life hidden by moonbeams.

Cover your eyes, life is not what it seems
And in the end get that for what you pay
Twilight glitters with unclaimed dreams

An unsatisfied life spent in useless schemes
All the time, greed is holding reality at bay
Do not live a life hidden by moonbeams.

Is life more or less like those soapy scenes
Or promises of what you want if you pray
Twilight glitters with unclaimed dreams

Cast it all aside and ignore their screams
Believe in a life lit by the Suns first ray
Do not live a life hidden by moonbeams.

Life should be spent fishing in streams
Then loving nights with times of play.
Twilight glitters with unclaimed dreams
Do not live a life hidden by moonbeams.

Hydra

I just refuse to get my life this spoiled,
I aim at doing well and not cause harm;
why should I live in fear when days get soiled?

I dread the times this snake wakes up uncoiled,
it happens regularly without alarm;
I just refuse to get my life this spoiled.
I wish this ugly Hydra could be foiled,
life would be brighter with this monster charmed.
why should I live in fear when days get soiled?

The sun is hiding when the snake is roiled,
nothing can tame the beast, not even smarm;
I just refuse to get my life this spoiled.
Love, like machinery, needs to be oiled,
lightning and thunder do not help, disarm;
why should I live in fear when days get soiled?

My whole life I’ve been working, even toiled,
in my old age I don’t want to rearm.
I just refuse to get my life this spoiled,

why should I live in fear when days get soiled?

The two faces of love

Love is a two-faced enigma some days.
One side is smiling and invites you in,
The other hides behind an angry haze.

The change, when not foreseen, can daze
Or even stun the present next of kin;
Love is a two-faced enigma some days.

Where did the warmth, the laughter go? This maze
is much too complicated, makes heads spin.
The other hides behind an angry haze.

A fight where words are used as swords, a phase
Of silence as result- skins have grown thin.
Love is a two-faced enigma some days.

No one will benefit from this malaise;
When outcome is a draw, there is no win.
The other hides behind an angry haze.

Yet time will heal most wounds, such is the phrase,
The first who sees the light, shakes off chagrin.
Love is a two-faced enigma some days,
The other hides behind an angry haze.

Yoga Garudasana (Eagle Pose)

I am an eagle, perched high in a tree
I'm searching for a prey, still on the ground;
When I dive down, a soul shall soon be free.

My wings, now folded, will be spread in glee
When I'll soar downward catching what I've found;
I am an eagle, perched high in a tree.

My legs are strong, their hold will guarantee
I bring back food to keep my young both sound.
When I dive down, a soul shall soon be free.

My flight is swift and sure, no time to flee
For those I spot when I am looking 'round;
I am an eagle, perched high in a tree.

To hunt for food is part of our ki;
My claws bring a quick death, by fatal wounds -
When I dive down, a soul shall soon be free.

I fly among the highest clouds and see,
As strongest of all birds, I am renowned.
I am an eagle, perched high in a tree,
When I dive down, a soul shall soon be free.

Yoga Uttanasana

I stand and feel my feet upon the floor.
In yoga I connect, find peace within;
My mind is focused on my inner core.

I know this flow of movements will restore
The balance between mind and body's spin;
I stand and feel my feet upon the floor.

I'm freed of pain and anger I abhor
In following each breath flow out and in,
My mind is focused on my inner core.

This discipline relieves all thought of chore
It makes me feel alive inside my skin;
I stand and feel my feet upon the floor.

In bowing deeply forward I explore
How muscles can relax, grow soft, give in;
My mind is focused on my inner core.

I feel the sun upon my skin, adore
How light outside has found its inner twin.
I stand and feel my feet upon the floor-
My mind is focused on my inner core.

Yoga Utthita Trikonasana

A sideways bow, until my left hand meets
My foot- I watch my right hand straight upright;
On flow of breath I stand with widespread feet.

I'm breathing in until upright; complete
This posture mirrored to the left, outright.
I turn my left foot out for yoga's treat.

Like windmill's wings, one hand moves out to greet
A foot, the other stretches to sun's light.
On flow of breath I stand with widespread feet.

I do my exercises without cheat,
Feel mind and body benefit, grow bright;
I turn my left foot out for yoga's treat.

I do each posture more than once, repeat
It twice- thus yoga is my start of day's delight.
On flow of breath I stand with widespread feet,
I turn my left foot out for yoga's treat.

Yoga Virabhradrasana (Warrior pose)

I am a warrior at heart, sincere,
When I am challenged, I go all the way
With boundless energy and without fear.

I've set my standards high and do adhere
To yoga's discipline to start my day;
I am a warrior at heart, sincere.

In flowing movements worries disappear
A quiet breath bears peace, so I can stay
With boundless energy and without fear.

In meditation I can rest, revere
Your presence deep inside, to whom I pray
I am a warrior at heart, sincere.

I live to learn, within this earth-bound sphere
Until I leave this shore for heaven's bay
With boundless energy and without fear.

When I have reached that peaceful belvedere
There will be light and love, adieu to grey.
I am a warrior at heart, sincere,
With boundless energy and without fear.

-----

Yoga Vrksasana (Tree pose)

I'm standing in Vrksasana, tree pose
As trees connect the earth with heaven's sphere,
My mind is poised upon my inner rose.

I'm following the morning rite I chose
In meditation troubled thought-clouds clear;
My mind is poised upon my inner rose.

I'm balanced on one foot, rooted with toes,
My arms stretch high above, in heartfelt cheer.
I'm standing in Vrksasana, tree pose.

My breath is slow and even, it just flows
As I feel cherished as a tree held dear;
My mind is poised upon my inner rose.

I bring my hands together, fingers closed,
They come to rest before my heart, this near.
I'm standing in Vrksasana, tree pose.

In changing feet, my mind stays in repose,
Steady and composed, no thoughts interfere.
I'm standing in Vrksasana, tree pose.
My mind is poised upon my inner rose.

Within You

My mind is focused on your name in prayer;
my eyes are closed, while senses turn within
as I'm accepted into deeper layers.

I'm freeing all my thoughts into your care,
they're drifting upward with a gentle spin-
my mind is focused on your name in prayer.

At rest inside your peace I am aware
how stars are born in you and life begins
as I'm accepted into deeper layers.

Your touch expands my world, I am prepared
to trust the hand I feel upon my skin;
my mind is focused on your name in prayer.

I'll know you'll guide my feet on daring stairs-
above, below, you mirror worlds therein
as I'm accepted into deeper layers.

I feel my soul ablaze with sudden flare-
the boundaries between us have grown thin;
my mind is focused on your name in prayer
as I'm accepted into deeper layers.

Brian Paul Sullivan

Does She Know?

Does she know I love her so?
I've never said a single word,
'tis something I try not to show,

I wish that I could just let go,
Through the silence has she heard?
Does she know I love her so?

Her presence makes me all aglow,
My heart flutters like a bird,
'tis something I try not to show,

Speech comes so thick and slow,
I ask through the written word,
Does she know I love her so?

Once cupid's loosed his bow,
How can silence be endured?,
'tis something I try not to show,

From my heart does it flow,
My spirit says it's been pured,
Does she know I love her so?
'tis something I try not to show.
