#02 Byron's Sonnet

Byron's sonnets were obviously influenced by the Italian form rather than the English and possess an octave and a sestet. The Octave is similar to the Italian, but is constructed using three rhymes not two.
a. b. b. a... a. c. c. a.
The sestet is a Sicilian sestet,
d. e. d...e. d. e.
Sonnet to Genevra

Thine eyes' blue tenderness, thy long fair hair,
And the wan lustre of thy features - caught
From contemplation where serenely wrought,
Seems Sorrow's softness charm'd from its despair-
Have thrown such speaking sadness in thine air
That-but I know thy blessed bosom fraught
With mines of unalloy'd and stainless thought-
I should have deem'd thee doom'd to earthly care.
With such an aspect, by his colours blent,
When from his beauty-breathing pen-cil born
(Except that thou hast nothing to repent),
The Magdalen of Guido saw the morn-
Such seemst thou-but how much more excellent!
With naught Remorse can claim-nor Virtue scorn.

George Gordon, Lord Byron

All Things Must Change
...All things must change
To something new, to something strange.
...Henry Wadsworth Longfellow

All things must change, it is the way
Plan for things, but do not expect
That all that's good Fate will reject
Remember, when you sow, you pay.
Until we do, our lives will be grey
To find true love, we all must hope
All things must change, love is a slope
With pain making some willing to delay.
Don't expect love to move along smoothly
Fate can only deal out what was arranged
And has been known to turn out crazy.
She's the director and the script was changed
The story unravel just like in any movie
In the end the couple an Oscar is gained.

Celestial Thoughts

Out of an endless void my love has grown
Starting from a cosmic speck, a minute grain
And finitely creating this heavenly domain
Where there was nothing a seed was sown.
Not of wood, nor steel, nor brick or stone
No roof of tin or tile to shelter from harm
It was created by love, to protect and warm.
My pulsing heart, inside flesh and bone
A celestial being that has won my soul
Knowing that time or distance can never part
Two separate beings have made a whole.
From timeless space you have won my heart
From now my life and love is your control
From it we will prove True Love is an art.

-----

Dusk

Dusk glimmers with unclaimed hopes and schemes
It is the dawn of night promising things to come
And reluctant newfound love easier to be won
What love of day is not bettered by the moons beams?
Often loves words are smothered by the light and dreams
Yet freely given and warmly received at night.
So speak, your heart will guide your tongue what's right
Shyness is a curse, and words at night have easier means.
There you'll find your words will with love ignite
And come the dawn side by side you will lay
Your words of love no longer fearful of the light
You'll smile together still as united you greet the day
Welcome the Sun, and rationalise love by sight
Thankful knowing that your love is here to stay.

-----

Ebb and Flow

Do not walk behind please let me look
Rather walk alongside me holding my hand
Let us blaze a path that is shared so grand
Walking slowly, sharing each other's outlook.
There is no single point at which we can book
There is no separation between land and skies
Instead they share a union as their time flies
As sand and sea constantly change their look.
So should it be with you that I share each day
Curious do you value me enough to ask me this
A simple question to ask along lifetime's way?
Are you prepared to follow my way or dismiss
Allow me to help and prevent us to not go astray
Walk with me, in the end we'll find eternal bliss.

-----

Fools Dreams

The mad fool dreams once more.
Soaring heavenwards to the light
Wings spread in his desperate flight
He feels the joy the love of soar.
Airborne high over the lands below
Past clouded towers and minaret
Now only stars, heavens gems beset.
Realising he's only seeing the afterglow.
The mad fool dreams once more
Never a slave to what's normal form
Again steps through that magic door.
Flying on and on, finally into the dawn
Past all the sane that went before
Reaching Heaven without being shown.

-----

Heavenly Tears

What is rain but liquid sunshine,
Making life lush, and proud and tall.
The tears of Heaven blessing us all
Wine drops from angels as they dine
Not all tears are that, some a simple sign
Denied too often, whilst building a wall
Built by time and parental example
Not tears of Heaven nothing begign
Fathers make men by denying they cry
Only sissies cry, real men stand tall.
I sob and I blubber, I will not deny
And thank Heaven for blessing us all.
What is rain but liquid sunshine,
The tears of Heaven blessing us all.

-----

Gondwana

Pick up a stone as you wander lake and hills
Feel how smooth and round time has made it.
It comforts and pleases you to have it a bit,
You realise skimming the lake also has thrills.
The lake is not harmed there will be no bills
Because in time a thinner stone will return
If not that stone into fine white sand will turn
Tidal water washing over when ere she wills.
Can you imagine a time when all was hot stone
And cold water came along and made it crack
With that shock, hard rock apart, was blown.
It followed the rocks grain and made a track
From that streams and then rivers were grown
And from then on, there was no turning back.

-----

Media Truths

A Tap Dance on the written word,
Readings woven creating a snare
Ignoring the desire to lay truth bare
Instead lie about events occurred.
Paragons of truth now speak absurd
Catching the unwary in vacant stare
And non essentials until they swear
That black is white and was preferred.
Games are crueller than those of youth
Now the innocent has become the prey.
And the innocents have to dig for proof
Phones are tapped in the name of what
Whilst justice does the innocent betray
But now the media are getting their lot.

-----

Neptune

Neptune! I see you deep in the sea of space
So isolated from the other and lesser Gods.
Does that mean with them you are at odds
Where does that leave you with the human race?
Why is it only in a storm that we see your face
Galileo first saw thee and thought thee a star
Thy moon Triton's the coldest in the system by far
And you have many others you still embrace
Thou art the Eighth, for a brief while not the last
Pluto thy neighbour's packed his bags and gone.
Never have I seen a planet so blue go past
Our seas and oceans are jealous of thee every one.
You inspire us and our dreams thy spirit is cast
And because of this all poets to you are drawn.

-----

Open your heart

Open your heart like you've opened your mind
And let the hard won past lessons be your guide
But also do not let your own judgements hide
Each day's a new page, new adventures to find.
A fresh page on which to write and unwind
When you write I wonder what you will say,
Will it just be a paragraph talking about the day,
A page about happiness, free from the grind?
Do not be frightened and you must really try,
And having tried, you will find you won or lost
If you win, love is there in an everlasting supply.
Is not true love really worth any painful cost
For what is hardy won will last for Eternity.
At the end of day you close your book with pages full.

-----

The Party

At this party all the faces are slack,
The drinks flow but look at them.
Empty minds only babbling phlegm
Saying nothing fruitful, the senses lack.
More's drunk, you hear the fools yak
Consider how wise and sober you are.
A boring drone, you wish you were afar
But you know to leave could risk the sack.
Suddenly you see eyes above the glass,
Wise, sober eyes laughing at all the fools
Eyes meet and I see someone who is class.
See a question who're you with these mules
Love begins, each others eyes made the pass
From a casual glance you've found a jewel.

-----

Questions

Would'st thou nestle by my fireside,
Needs that I be your beacon in the night
Your lighthouse or just a shining light
Or would thou prefer in the dark to hide?
I offer you warmth staying by my side
Instead of that cold harsh white sight
A warmth of which will your soul ignite
As in your lovers arms you chose abide.
Are we all judged and treated the same
Is love just a vapour of mystical smoke
Or does that whispering wind play a game?
And cupids arrow a casual sticks poke?
Does he carefully select a pair and aim
Knowing that true love is never a joke.

-----

Shooting Stars

Today I saw matter crashing to the earth
Bright flashes streaking across the sky
Watching as they entered the atmosphere to die
They were part of the cosmos at its birth.
Part of the life and death of the universe.
They began when worlds were first formed
Part of a huge ball of energy that stormed
Spinning in space, worlds began to coerce.
They are like throw offs from a potter's wheel
Not wanted by the worlds that were created
Each time one of them burns out worlds feel.
Going closer to the creation that was fated
Are we now much closer to what is real?
Like them we'll burn out one day as stated.

This Bitter Earth
(Variation on a song by Billie Holliday)

This bitter Earth it weeps with blood
By power crazy fools and the lies they say
Uncaring in the end only the innocent pay
The worlds young men and idealistic good.
This bitter Earth from space, look so green
But vested interests cause nations to fight
The might of the masses try to do what is right
So down on the ground is a far different scene.
This bitter Earth has no religion like man
Seeking balance, nature’s equality is the rule
It has ups and downs and has since time began.
Then men came along some acting the fool
Their greed ignoring what was natures plan
On this bitter Earth man is a mere molecule.

Voices

I don't hear the voices anymore
They have gone and all is gloom
When they let me out of this room
They will be back again for sure.
The smell of blood and death we adore
They helped me plot another's doom
They have all gone and all is gloom
And I don't hear the voices anymore
The medication I carefully ignore
And fool them because they assume
That it's the drugs that make me snore
But just wait until I'm out this room.
I hope I'll hear the voices some more
Then when I'm gone there will be bloom.

Apollo nou Muses

How they dance around a circle of the sun
Chanting of prophesies to the ancient lyre
Grecian maidens amidst flames of a pyre
Shall for ever dance until the day is done
Not a one that chants shall be ever alone
To chant within circle's may never expire
Such is the golden vision of the solar fire
Within ancient festive rituals all are prone
Such are the pleas and prayers unto Apollo
A muse that obey's yet commands none
But beauty and warmth for all that follow
With the glory and presence of everyone
May bide the lights that glow the morrow
When the rays of a moons beam is done.

Celtic Voices

A quaint little chapel built from the stone
Fashioned from an ancient Celtic mountain
Still stands proud within a Welsh terrain
No building aids used but blood and bone
For the Celts forever stood proudly alone
Still stands the chapel to the present day
And the Celts shall still come here to pray
Old bricks and mortar may creak or groan
But the Celts are still praying though faint
Within pastoral songs of an old celtic tone
The sweet voices heard are those of a saint
This chapel remains within a past unknown
Some say it could do with one lick of paint
But as it stands best to be left as is shown.

Floating Cloud

Swathed within a silken and satin gown
'neath a fluffy cloud of a chiffon lace
Floating high unto a starlight embrace
On high she soars upon clouds of dawn .
Towards a misty heavenly path shown
So softly the touch of an angels grace
A shooting star shall not ever deface
The grace of a princesses faded gown.
All that may glitter shall not be gold
Nor the purity of features to renown
Warmth shall appear from bitter cold
Within the blossom of a garland crown
That entered her heart within the fold
Once she was a princess looking down.

-----

Future of Past

Twisted tree's shall never become unfurled
Gnarled branches ever reach out to embrace
Shall be trapped within thorns that interlace
Such are mystical charms of an ancient world
There is no escape within this maize recoiled
Time has denied the rights of woodland space
That became the beauty of this by gone place
Where evil trod within this woodland spoiled
There may be much within a future to amend
Where an ancient man had past time toiled
Beauty abound shall be what an Angel sends
Within wisdom and love all shall be unfoiled
And all shall be as mother of nature defends
Back to a future where all shall be controlled.

-----

The Future Past

The crashing of waves that rushed ashore
Such tempestuous winds of wild emotion
Image's of wild horses that swim the ocean
Within strong tidal visions like never before
Shall it be that the winds shall calm no more
What of the past when the oceans were calm
Once only rivers within green pastural balm
Flourished avidly upon ancient times of lore
Back in time when land was before the seas
When earth was younger much more serene
with not a thing more than the gentle breeze
where a past creation of landscape had been
Until time had changed from earth and trees
When the ocean took over our country scene.

-----

Galaxy Unknown

No human shall survive on the mighty sun
Yet here on earth we cannot live without it
No life within vast galaxies shall ever visit
The heat is much too intense for everyone
There is no escape nor a hiding place to run
Yet without warmth Earth shall not survive
No wild life, plants, or humans remain alive
A chance of survival being practically none
We shall not experience light but only dark
No more seasons within the quarterly zone
Nor morning dawn with the song of the lark
Earth shall be of nothing but a planet alone
Until new planets from space shall embark
Within the vast galaxy of a future unknown.

Green Eye Of Nature - Byron Sonnet

Hail the green eye of nature`s mother
She is our future as was in the past
Many moons before flint hath been cast
That sparked a fire to warm another
This lay hidden within a pile of rocks
What more from the past may we find
May there be weapons or tools to grind
Or buried hoard of broken clay crocks
Was there bone and flint, stone and clay
All treasures of ancient primaeval land
Generations fail with their future hand
That squanders to perish the past away
But the green eye of nature had planned
To herald ideals for the future this day.

-----

How it Was

Within Egypts ancient script of historic lore
Of all the Gods within Egypts tombs of old
Hence a magical eye of mysteries did unfold
God of the skies Horus was the name he bore
And thus he was trained for the planets core
He mastered the lunar phases of the moon
A sun upon a vast solar system within tune,
And elements within the vast planets core
He who bore wisdom from his magical eye
An almighty battle occured in the Universe
That seduced the solar energy from the sky
Within speech of aliens to boldly converse
Half man half falcon shall never misapply
For his dark and light are forever reversed.

-----

Illusions Of Love

Tread silently forth unto this moonlit night
Lest sweet dreams of love should awaken
I may be bless'd within slumber unshaken
Enhanc'd in my pleasure 'til morning light
That I may lay contented in pure delight
With my knight who is with me 'til morn
Within a similar fate love had been born
Even if 'twas only a wild fantasy despite
The fact I was then so heavily sedated
That bade my illusion of love take flight
Or maybe a bottle of port wine related
For I never really was feeling quite right
What ever my dreams were highly elated
I shall partake in another glass despite.

-----

Morals

If I was a lark or maybe a swallow
I should spread out my wings to fly
Thro' the clouds to a clear blue sky
And no one upon earth shall follow
I may go today or maybe tomorrow
Depends upon the stormy weather
I do not want to damage a feather
It would be a very hard act of sorrow
I will just be patient and wait and see
Right now I am so cosy within my nest
I shall go tomorrow that will be best
Its great to be a bird with life so free
Beneath the tree lies a huge black cat
Who is after me I know what he's at.

-----

Pathways Unknown

Time shall unlock a pathway to the planets
A celestial galaxy of many light years away
Far from the shadow's of the earths display
Of thundrous seas that may bear no outlets
Thus pathes the way that shall be of regrets
May this Earth crumble and be lost forever
Shall we escape within space now or never
Or may the power of space withhold secrets
That shall cause a selestial war upon friction
Time itself shall forever be against the winds
Celestial planets are not within jurisdiction
So many many light years of celestial minds
How should we cope then with this infliction
When humanity within this earth ever binds.

Pathways Unknown

-----

Planet Venus

Within outer space there shall be no time
A future above shall be of eternal oblivion
That shall ever be cast as a future dominion
Where darkness and light may reign sublime
And silence within shall space storms resign
A galaxy of pathways to a beautiful heaven
That can only be described as a lovers haven
Lost within eternity of a blissful love divine
There they may reign both together endless
Where the spirits of lovers so destined to be
For within the void of space is ever timeless
No tidal wave shall ever rule the silent sea
A galaxy of stars shall never remain lifeless
This love shall ever revolve for an eternity.

-----

Ravens Lullaby

High upon a mountain range of Earth
Mists of above gather upon a shroud
I can only imagine what fate allowed
From a shrouded haven unto a rebirth
That mirrors not a shadow hither forth
Everlasting love within a solitary cloud
May return back as ravens fate allowed
And inherit south. east ,west, and north
There you shall begin a newly born race
To show this planet what love is worth
No mountain range shall ever displace
Nor global world within heavens girth
Shall ever disturb the ravens embrace
Within past reality may be not of myth.

-----

Reaching Out

The time has now come when I must go
For time in itself has turned against me
And life as I knew it shall be set as free
No shadow's left of my image to show
Nor music or songs of love may bestow
All of my feelings that were never to be
No more words to be spoken tenderly
But instinct tells me love shall not flow
As dark clouds gather within this heart
When loving eyes have lost their glow
It may definately be the time to depart
So cold the frosts that may follow snow
May we ever again hear the music start
Shall we ever recover a desire to know.

-----

Sun Dancer

Within freedom of the spirit and of mind
Upon this planet and the oceans intensity
That through time found a past identity
So vast within the wilderness of mankind
Strong rays of the sun were bright to find
Of past times that natives could unwind
That through time found a past identity
Humanity may dance to the earths gravity
Though natives were never so far behind
For they danced round circles like the sun
Lost within a chant of earths natural kind
Cast within the shadow of a mythical one
That only human nature may for ever find
To express freely within the dance alone.

-----

Waters Wide

Come guide me unto the waters unknown
Show me come teach me how may I swim
Under water sensations shall be my whim
But first to swim that I need to be shown
There are things I shall never endure alone
For a fear of drowning within future grim
I shall cling on tighter to be closer of limb
Within the hope that I shall never be prone
My panic attack of nerves has been known
But I need my man to be carefully selected
And my past instincts has forever be known
For a fantasy like this shall be as protected
Within a lovers arms fantasies have shown
With fears of drowning now ever rejected.

What is Love

Soft words do oftimes speak of love
That shalt not ignore of wondrous charms
Much pleasure's remain within loving arms
Of memories that shall never fade thereof
From tender kisses beneath a moon above
Thou may not ignore warmth within eyes
For lovers eyes may present no false lies
With thy touch soft as a feathered dove
May ever surrender this loving by chance
Deep within hearts that feel much passion
That may render this love to a merry dance
But love may not be a falsity of fashion
That halts before one begins to enhance
Love has favoured so much attraction.

Jeremy Farmer

The Actress

The drama revealed in passion's lament,
Of eager feelings, of love kissed by hate,
And those envious eyes daring to wait,
A sign of change in meaningful intent.
Can love see past the rage of this dissent
Or open the heart so hope can survive?
To sweeten thoughts as dreamings come alive
And in those tender words let love make vent.
Emotion once known as hysterical cries,
Is merely whispered words a heart expressed,
The freedom found in love-making's soft sighs,
When thoughts and wants are no longer repressed,
The spirit soars to break free of its ties
To find the peaceful state where love is blessed!

-----

The Child

The innocent aware of beauty sighs
A breath of vagueness in creative dreams,
That wander far beyond the living streams
In wonder searches for reasons and whys.
With opened eyes sees movement in the skies,
Absorbing sweetness as senses expand
As dewy grass embraced by earthy land
Explain the barefoot joy in youthful cries.
Yet mature minds refuse to take delight
In kicking through the drifting fall of leaves
It's swept away like mist that curls each night
Around the dreams that no-one dare retrieves
But given the chances all things burn bright
The heart can see beyond that the eye deceives.

-----

The Enchantress

A poet's muse is but an Earthly dream
That flows like a river through the veins,
In creative spells it waxes and wanes
As ink flows upon the paper ream.
Yet words of love may not be what they seem,
While drawing the mind closer, ever near
For such depth has darkness that’s kissed by fear,
Yet longs for light; the brightest solar beam.
A cynical heart whimpers coldly scorn,
A disdainful heart that knows not desire
'Tis here in words that love's magic is born,
As instincts sense out the way to inspire,
While healing emotions, damaged and worn,
The feelings burned out by an old love's fire.

-----

The Joker

Quick wit denies the hidden tricks and lies
The cynic's eye reveals naught but hot air,
The nonsensical face of foolish care,
As fiery flame breathes warmth for air to rise.
The flippant nature of love in disguise,
True feelings buried deep in poker's bluff,
In humour and mirth when living is rough,
To lift the soul that lost sight of the skies.
When lovers forget they once shared a dream,
Amid weary woes and paying the rent,
The endless arguments as ideals scream,
And temper lost as hurt emotions vent,
'Tis the joker that releases the steam
To save love from raging detriment.

-----

Mother Nature

In wholeness Earth and Water join as one,
And seeds that lie asleep in fertile soil
Await her kiss of life to then uncoil
The memory that reaches for the Sun.
And while the world is dull, submerged in dun,
A conscious breath is held within her heart,
A healing breath to mend what's torn apart
The magic soul that most will turn and shun.
Yet if we choose to pause and hear her dream,
To see the rainbow break the tide of grey
There is no secret we may not redeem,
If instinct guides us to walk Nature's way,
Like waters rushing in a mountain stream
To touch the stillness found at break of day.

-----

The Patriarch

Icy reflections in silent stillness,
A crystalized breath of dogmatic thought
As choices leave the spirit overwrought
In tempests of a judicial process.
Yet age permits the soul to then regress
To times when thoughts were new and born in truth
Beyond the grasp of innocence and youth
Brought forward there comes a new awareness.
We look to our learnings lest they condone
The words and deeds disciplined thoughts redeem
Justice hails from that we have always known
Ideals of the living energy stream.
For knowledge is powerless on its own
Until wisdom becomes part of the dream.

-----

The Slave

A dancer spiralling amid the fire,
Gyrating toward the world at her feet
Her burning heart echoes the earthly beat
And fingers beckon to watching eyes, "high'r!"
The rapid dreams of want, of love, desire
A consciousness beyond the mortal world
The dancer yields with her passions unfurled
Her movements guided as her needs inspire.
The beat dictates as senses twist and turn,
She reaches out for the one single caress,
Releasing her soul to sensual sojourn,
Where her dance of flames ends in completeness
As flames of life within her belly burn
She dwells within the erotic oneness.

-----

The Observer

They want their dreams to close down thinking minds,
Pretend the eyes are blind to see no more,
All living zombies of 1984
Give them nothing; no way out left to find.
Uncaring souls who lost the sense of kind,
They hold the power in their tarnished hands,
And it falls through fingers like grains of sand
As nought is left once on our blood they've dined.
They cannot hide the truth of word and deed,
Their evil hearts are clear for all to see,
If we dare look beyond the want and greed,
So spirits rise and join in liberty
As we touch the lost souls of those in need
It's simple acts of love that set us free.

-----

The Warrior

Internal volcanoes combust in flame,
The buried impatience that must be heard,
Yet fears the judgement found in others words,
The pride that can never give in to shame.
A heated soul shall not shoulder the blame,
Each battle fought within blood without blade
The true self standing tall to make the grade
As gender flows to a different name.
This force of will that accepts the own self,
No matter how deep it is lost will rise,
A war of senses, sanity and health,
The strength as the mind no longer denies
For in truth freedom brings no greater wealth
As that of love's embrace when a heart cries.

Feet of clay

Lord Byron loved the ladies well.
Too many and too frequently.
A somewhat chequered history.
According to the tales they tell.
Aristocratic ladies fell
so easily beneath his spell.
Surrendered their virginity.
Their curiosity to quell.
A serial philanderer.
He pursued many love affairs.
A faithless selfish wanderer.
It seems to day nobody cares.
Because the public much prefer
To ignore truths too hard to bear.

Money makes the world turn around....Byron's sonnet

They say money makes the world turn around,
yet today it comes to a grinding halt
as fortunes are either kept in a vault
or evaporate till none can be found.
With wages and pensions on the rebound
we'll have to work till we're sixty-seven;
State's pension, once called manna from heaven,
is no longer growing, but ran aground.
Money was borrowed too much and too fast;
the sky was the limit, four years ago;
we should have known better: it could not last.
Banks had huge debts, stopped lending, brought woe;
by stockholders gambling, the dice were cast.
We're the spectators who'll pay for their show.

-----

Slowly

Gently, very gently, we're reaching out
to feel each other's warmth again;
a longed for coming home we thus regain
in whispered steps, after a too long drought.
We tend each budding sign, each growing sprout,
love's roots are strong enough to build anew;
as confidence is growing we'll pull through,
we'll slowly lift these choking veils of doubt.
Then once again joy colours our days
and rainbows show us where to find life's gold;
our love will warm us like a fire's blaze,
we'll keep it burning, hiding from the cold.
Life's concert's playing music filled with praise,
in listening we find our peace enfolds.

-----

Wrangles

I'm lost within a wood of worn out words
they hide my way towards the light I seek
obscure my vision's clarity, grown weak
in trying to ward off harsh, angry herds.
I try to focus on my friends the birds
they call me to step out and bring some food
their song, both sweet and solacing, feels good
it helps me to withstand speech's soured curds.
Yet still I know inside love is alive
she hasn't given up, but wants to bloom
after this too long period of strive
she's ready to shrug off the binds of gloom
is dedicated to find joy, survive
so let us aim for peace and stop to fume.
