2014 Poetry Theme Challenge

#01 Celebrations

Thank you all who took up the last challenge. I hope this next one provided you some food for the muse. As 2013 fades out and 2014 arrives with the usual merriment this challenge is a jolly one. Celebrate the New Year or some other event in poetry

Quote - In our work and living, we must recognize that difference is a reason for Celebration and growth, rather than a reason for destruction - Audre Lorde

A Birthday

My heart is like a singing bird
Whose nest is in a water'd shoot;
My heart is like an apple-tree
Whose boughs are bent with thick-set fruit;
My heart is like a rainbow shell
That paddles in a halcyon sea;
My heart is gladder than all these,
Because my love is come to me.

Raise me a dais of silk and down;
Hang it with vair and purple dyes;
Carve it in doves and pomegranates,
And peacocks with a hundred eyes;
Work it in gold and silver grapes,
In leaves and silver fleurs-de-lys;
Because the birthday of my life
Is come, my love is come to me.

Terry Clitheroe

Formation Flying

Why do birds fly in formation
See how they fly with perfect precision
As they wheel and turn together
Is there some special top secret
A celebration in V formation
In less than an inch they all turn
Shrinking inward to something large leaking
Light to glorious
Light on an earth of answers
How everyone must travel
Even if confused and quickly through
Let them be
One hundred tiny birds landing
And dancing in the grass.

Dark Abyss - Diveno Sonneto

Black is the night of the spineless creatures
Arose from a tomb with no human features
Within black slimy skin and red blooded eyes
Haunts within a nightmare of starless skies
Doomed to be the predator of earthen lore
That smoulders within flames of torment
From the furnace of earth all hell had sent
What was then once shall be never no more
Grasping fingers that cling to earthen loam
Where footprints once found their way home
Upon a fate worse than deaths undying rest
Of everlasting torment where spirits roam
That arise when a moon is hidden from view
But all who shall witness are less than a few.

Happy Birthday Boi'o - (A Celebration Theme)

Guess what in case nobody has noticed
Today is special even more then new year
Some ones birthday shall be celebrated
With Welsh origins or maybe very near.

A party is in order we shall be the host
For an accomplished poet he's the best
Lift up your glass it is he that we toast
With a slice of birthday cake to digest

There is none so well deserved as Boi'o
Even Saint David would bow at his feet
Just for a platter of a creme fraise Jello
He shall devour secretly to be discrete.

Shhhh dont say a word this is a surprise
Boi'o has no idea what we are all up to
Soon it shall be as clear before his eye's
Happy birthday dear Boi'o just for you.

Lovers Lake -- Beymorlin Sonnet

The magic of a lake shall forever appease
So calm the thoughts she dreams within
No tragic moments of floods shall sieze
Yet balm may soothe the worries therin
A moon shall shimmer in a magical way
To entice the hearts of natures charms
So soon this enchantment turns to day
To suffice unto perfection never harms
She sits by the lake dreaming of a love
It may only reveal deep imagination
But fits perfectly 'neath a moon above
This day she sought for loves salvation.
Tho' sorrow had prevailed within the rain
Tomorrow it shall be this love may regain.

Stone Circle - Australian Sonnet in dimeter

In silence stand
Or kneel to pray
Where ancients stay
To grace the land
A quiet thought
Then cast in spells
Where magic dwells
But can't be sought
The path of light
Across the dark
A Pagan mark
To bless the night
Of winter fun
And Solstice Sun

Upon the Snow - Rondine

Texte: Someone peeps out through pleated drapes
At the Toll Booth - Marilyn Donelly

As eyes looked out upon the snow
This winter’s night the bells would ring
The midnight hour as children sing
An old year ends without a fight
And Auld Lang Syne its comfort brings
As eyes looked out upon the snow

And lovers dance beyond our sight
Igniting dreams as senses sing
On her finger he placed his ring
His love declared beneath moonlight
As eyes looked out upon the snow
