#09 Sonnetina Due

This form is using the most basic form of poetry, the couplet. Many versions come to mind, the Mathnawi, Ghazal, Cyhydedd Fer, Rhupunt, and Toddaid, it is possible to construct a Sonnetina Due using these existing couplet forms.
The emphasis is that it is a ten line poetry form that is constructed using any couplet form, and must be presented as a ten line poetry form.
There is no set meter or rhyme sceme, but if Iambic Pentameter were used, the form could be called an "Heroic Sonnetina".

All Things Must End

Save not a thing it all must end
It's inevitable all things must end.
Why must someone have to die
Why must there have to be an end
Why is it only then we realise
That it's too late, we've lost a friend
All things have not been said have they?
Say it now, drop your pride and bend
Friendship is still the greatest wealth
Why must we wait until the end?

Terry Clitheroe
Above Terry constructed a Sonnetina using a Ghazal form and below Divena uses a Mathnawi
Only A Woman

I am meant to be loved not understood
I wish you could when I feel you should.
Sometimes I'm sad and I dont know why
I feel so dejected hard done by and cry.
When I fall in love I love with passion
Never know, love may go out of fashion.
When I state my facts I argue what's right
Do not dispute this could last all night.
Dont ever give up on me If you are my man
But handle with care for I am a woman.

Autumn Skies - For Syria

Under the early autumn half moon brought
Forth many promises but results are naught.
The ground is damp from assured treaty
Like a politicians kiss, just wet and empty.
The land's not angry with them, or their kin
And only seeks to release the pain within.
I want them to weep and release their pain
So that the world can all try to be one again.
But too much power will oppose the plan
And who will suffer in the end...just man.

II

The tears she sheds are more than any tide
This new widow, who was a brand new bride.
For what fate gives she sometimes takes away
This young widowed lass, was a bride today.
But some people do not think as free as we
With some faiths believe mixing cannot be.
So the innocent pledge to lover forever
Made evil men state, "this can't happen EVER"
So she sits there weeping on the beach
Realising true love for now is out of reach.

Darkness

Eyes open wide seeing nought but darkness
Arms extend, grope out feeling emptiness.
Feel safe, taste its power, savour what's black
Harness what most people fear; nights attack.
Gloom's often shunned; it's a creation to be used
It is a place for loving, not for those confused
Where all senses are heightened, but all are blind.
Smell the air, gently touching, and you'll find
There is a new quality to love as you ascend,
As gradually the darkness becomes your friend.

Earthy Thoughts

A falling star streaks above the Earth
The trail behind it heralding its death.
The scent so strong speaks of its decay
And smells of all that winter takes away.
The ending that started the beginning
Is merely Fate sat at a wheel spinning
A rising star awakes across the Earth
A sight of wonder as the day gives birth.
The scent of freshness and new born life
Gives man hope for freedom from strife.

Catch a Falling Star - Josephine Wall

Fairground

The fairground that is life has many choices,
And equally speaking out, so many voices.
Do not laugh, do not sing, do not enjoy,
Those miserable bastards are not Gods envoy.
He says "Love thy neighbour, but not his wife"
That's a sure way he recons of causing strife
He says "Love thy neighbour, but not his Ass"
I could say something, but I won't be crass.
So on the fairground that is life, enjoy all you can.
And equally avoid criticism by a religious man.

-----

Futility

My insomniac dreams are hollow
Like the unhappy winds that follow,
And the day is spent in a morass,
Of muddy minded students that pass
Not on merit, but on exercise
And reluctant drills on hardly wise.
Where is that glimmer and lively spark
That takes a student out of the dark
Placing the engineering gal or gent
Into the ranks of practical and intelligent.

In Brimbank Park

In Brimbank Park with its hues of green
Its hills and trees are a perfect scene.
On meeting we did not know that first time
That love would grow to be so sublime.
But as our love grew we did not mean
To cause others pain, or to demean.
We sat and talked on a bank of green
Sadly knowing what should have been
I touched your face, now no longer mine
And then we parted that final time.

Kinaesthesia

See how rivers dance as starlight twinkles
Eve's wind gently waves the ranunculales
And clouds like dreams fly across the sky
Almost as if wishing the dying day goodbye.
Nights creatures emerge smiling at the night
And mother moon arises and spreads her light.
Then is the time when creatures stop and stare
They rule the heavens for all those who care.
Seeing the moon and stars for what they do
There lovers gaze and wish as one, not two.

Nae One Believes

A man and a woman fell in love at the fair
Strangers at first, but in time, sae much maire.
Och aye, and she was bonny and fair of face
And he was handsome and his pulse did race.
So they wed and bided in their house together
She blossomed maire than flowers wi the heather.
In time bore bairns blue of eye and red of hair
But fate had controlled how they had met unaware.
Misery was never a thing that they knew
With the years all they touched happiness grew.

No-one believes good things can happen
Take time out, believe, leave your minds open.
Happily, Jock and Jess would strongly deny
And state strongly, misery is a corporate lie.
He would lift his kilt and show his bare arse
To think that such stupid beliefs could pass.
But Jess, a lady with much maire aplomb
Would call gently over to her nearest son.
With a smile designed to light up humanity
You realise good things are what should be.

New Mates

If I tell you a secret will you tell me one,
Two secrets shared alone under the sun?
I promise not to tell, if you confide in me,
Whisper in my ear, let it drift out to sea.
Bare your heart and I'll bare my soul,
Let me love you from within, make us whole.
I'll sing you a song, I'll write you a sonnet
We'll lie on my bed and make love upon it.
Your head on my shoulder, true love will cling
My lips on your lips as our bodies now sing.

Yesterdays Dreams

As I watch a leaf whilst sat under a tree
The wind is causing it to dance with glee
Pirouetting in the air like a ballet dancer
Possessed by the wind who's a necromancer
Imagination given reign to a mystery
Yesterdays dreams seem to blow from me
Tomorrows like the leaf are still up in the air
And yet now I'm free, no longer do I care
No longer do I worry about uncertainty
As I watch a leaf whilst sat under a tree.

Zich Tonight

My words fall dead upon the floor,
Bugger 'em, they were useless, a bore.
Another syllable, statement, rhyme,
Destroyed by an overworked mind.
Another senseless act of blubberage,
Wreaked upon the English language.
It was lined up against a wall to kill
Then we all took aim and fired at will.
Another battalion of words stepped up,
Prepared for the impending stuff up.

Animal Land

Come now my little one hold tight my hand
For I'm going to take you to animal land
There's a big striped tiger and ocelot too
A large tusked elephant and a kangaroo
Monkey's and apes are there by the score
Huge game elks, along with a big black boar
Zebra's also with wide blackened stripe
Or maybe their black with stripes of white.
Camels with two larger bumps called humps
Maybe Dromedaries have one or two lumps.

Croc's and alligators with wide open jaws
Eagles and buzzards with sharpened claws
A wolf howls to a hyena your having a laugh
Can I join in too said the long neck giraffe
While Hippo the potymus bathes within mud
Submerges for his meal chewing the cud
Bellowing forth a great thundrous yawn
Frightening the deer and her bambi fawn.
A long way from their home is real bad news
Two crocodile's saved from croc skin shoes.

Ant eaters stretch a long snatching snout
Snakes bite venom so you better watch out
The king of the jungle he'll be there too
Don't stand too close or he may now eat you
Jumbo the elephant he might give you a ride
If you throw him a bun when jaws open wide
Ignore a shy ostrich his head buried deep
He's had a busy day and he's fallen asleep
Come now my little one hold tight my hand
Were gonna have fun here in animal land.

Artemis Goddess/Dryad

Long evening shadow's are scented of musk
As the Goddess Artemis descends at dusk
Amidst a sunset that stands out so bold
Shading earths carpet with red and gold
Goddess of chastity and dryad of the wise
Who hypnotises all within spell bound eyes
Such the extremes of her mystical calm
Within her touch of earths enticing balm
Goddess of the ancient derived from lore
A Dryad from the woodlands earthen floor.

-----

Blissful Silence

She hides all alone behind the screen
In the hope that she will not be seen
Not a thing she has got to do or say
Shall hinder where she needs to stay
Hidden behind her imaginary wall
She shall not heed a beckoned call
Companionship is never her choice
Such boredom to hear another voice
Blissful silence within this thought
Is something that cannot be bought.

-----

Born Free

Deep in the womb of a wolfs lair
Hidden from man who has no care
But if only their hearts could see
Her cubs were born to be free
Oh if only they could understand
Never to persecute them from land
Devoid of their rights to survive
They have every reason to thrive
To return once more what was taken
For a future generation to awaken.

Country Mouse (Variant)

Small I am more frightened than most I live in a hole in a field
But when the farmer ploughs it up I am much too much revealed
Decided I would take to the roads and hitched a truck for a ride
For there would be rich pickings much more than the countryside
The truck had stopped I jumped off near busy high street shops
A great big bus near squashed me flat so I scuttles runs and hops
I hunted around to find me a home to recover myself from shock
And I found a dustbin with a lid plus food that was fully stock'd
I couldn't of found a better 'des res' all things here I may need
Slept in an empty tin of baked beans my tummy overfull with greed.

But in the dead of night I was wakened, company visited my flat
I had found myself face to face with a great big fat black cat
So I jumps and scuttles and hops, and ran like the wind to escape
Close by in a store I settled down but that was my huge mistake
It was a tea shop with gentle folk and I hid in a ladies hand purse
But when she went to pay her bill, she screamed and I did curse
The owner of the shop gave chase with a cleaver as big as a house
Why cant people be more kindly for I'm only a terrified mouse
So home I went back to the fields to the country home that I love
Never again shall I roam far away Cities and towns they can 'shove'.

Forever Lasting

I recall the time when just you and me
Kissed neath the shade of willow tree
We were so young then and mystified
Within our spiritual spell ne-er denied
What pleasure gained from each kiss
Just being close together meant bliss
The soft gentle touch of a lovers hand
Was all that we both could understand
This love we had we could not disguise
It was ever revealed within the eyes.

Years went by when a spell was casting
This was a love meant for everlasting
That shall never suffer a broken heart
Forever together shall not drift apart
Time after time lovers shall be proven
That spiritual hearts remain as woven
It is the closest that we ever shall get
An experience that we shall not forget
One day it is soon we may return again
Upon a spiritual trip down memory lane.

I who Hath Failed

If I shalt not sin within the masters eyes
Let it be that I slumber within paradise
When all of my life shall be over and past
Through the past may my fortune be cast
If I return on this planet once more
Shall it be the master may close the door
Should I pass the golden door to my fate
Or go back to face reality much too late
An unsafe future my superiors once said
Mayhaps I should close my eyes instead.

Natures Release

Towns and cities from an old country lane
What shall the country folk forever regain
When there is no more trees in the forest
Nowhere a tawny owl may build her nest
With only so many places so wild and free
All there is left are the waves of the sea
But it may be again this planet shall spin
It shall be wild life not humans that win
Times shall then change with no pretence
When it is the owl who outwits defense.

Youth Awakening

Shall it be a practise the eve before
She never danced on a ballroom floor
Never within a gown of satin and lace
That yields to an orchestra with grace
But this was to be her very first ball
When a fine gentleman came to call
He was all in her dreams come true
And feelings towards him were new
Was it this that they called romance
That leads her forth to a merry dance

How she danced within imagination
Her heart beats from joyous elation
Such were images within her dreams
Awakened senses forever it seems
For this love and affection she had
Was never to be thought of as bad
This was a time that her life unfurl`d
From adolescence to womans world
But how her steps once had faltered
And how her life of love had altered.
