2012 Poetry Theme Challenges#06 Yin and Yang![]() |
|
Theme Challenge Next week sees the equinoxes, Vernal in the northern hemisphere and Autumn in the southern. Whichever season it is a time of renewed balance with night and day and within nature itself. So the Challenge is to write about balance, be it around us or within us. How do we find balance, or how do we balance one thing against another.

Kathy AndersonInfinite is the power of friendship Two together can set sail in their sloop Because one is not enough to sail now, So in times of need mates shall always vow. Survival is so much nicer when calm Waters embarked upon give restful balm Since only a chum will watch at your prow, So in times of need mates shall always vow. So arise with me at the break of day' Let us fulfill equal destinies way Together forever as fate allows So in times of need mates shall always vow. ----- Unbalanced When it happened the troubles came a pouring From jealousy or envy, hates scoring A touch down on innocence and its end No friend of peace to help transcend. So you walk along other roads wand'ring Around life's pastures and factories, wing Tougher now from bumps and pains that do mend, No friend of peace to save you nor transcend. Sometimes no roads in sight leave you wondering What bush or tree holds secrets of living For life ends to soon no roads left to wend, No friend to save you nor transcend. ![]() back to list |
Divena CollinsGreener are the valleys of the celtic land Softer the hills touched by natures hand That wade thro` waters cascading below Come by the hills where soft waters flow. Dawn within valleys where sheep do graze Beneath the mountain sides morning haze Wild thyme therein green meadows grow Come by the hills where soft waters flow. High on a cloud you can hear angels sing Or songs of birds flying home on the wing For peace of mind that is pleasing to show Come by the hills where soft waters flow. ![]() ----- Earth, Water, Wind, and Fire The balance of nature all may thrive On natural elements to keep us alive Mother of earths insticts transpire Of the Earth,Water, Wind and Fire. Mind over matter in all things we do. Changing our minds to a better view To meditate within on all we require Of the Earth,Water, Wind and Fire. To have visions upon earth that flows Beauty within the universe then grows The balance of our needs we acquire Of the Earth, Water, Wind, And Fire. Such is the balance of natures law The four elements we seek in awe For mother of nature shall never tire Of the Earth, Water, Wind And Fire. ![]() ----- Mother Natures Answer Nigh upon the night of the fullest moon She sensed the magic that she compiled A song of natures most saddened tune She who answers the call from the wild. What mystical notes played on this night That only the wild life had sang beguiled 'Twas she who had the gifts of insight She who answers the call from the wild. A balanced nature is there for us all Whither winters snow or summer mild Within existance they make a final call She who answers the call from the wild. ![]() ----- Yin Yang Zen Gentle water of peace flow upon mountain Thro` mist of ancient chinese cultural lore Unto sacred path of calm crystal fountain. Water of life that flow thro` earthen vein Flowing gently spiritual power of Yin-Yang Sharing nutrient ofcalm unto bamboo cane. Thus sway gently to the music of a breath Of life giving air that dance with a breeze Within a Zen garden which nature bequeath. Spiritual calmness that ease troubled mind Shall benefit greatly with a calming touch That all within a Zen garden shall unwind. ![]() back to list |
Jem FarmerNo breath of air to ease my heart, No reason found to be a part, The time has come to close my eyes As my soul goes where the raven flies. Outstretched I feel my fingernails Join with dark wings on feathered trails To touch the breath that took my sighs As my soul goes where the raven flies. All vision seen through eyes of black For a moment I can't go back My desire to reach the winter skies As my soul goes where the raven flies. Mantled wings lower me to ground In darkness hearing ev'ry sound, I've left behind the mortal ties As my soul goes where the raven flies. Ascending to the greater height The truth found where darkness meets light My doubting voice no more denies As my soul goes where the raven flies. ![]() back to list |
Iris Kdeep in chaos and din I breathe I breathe and retreat to where earth is cool and green soothes and peace is waiting to light in my heart. ----- Meditation At times I'm lost in blinding fear a tangled web too thick to clear though terror gnaws along the bone, I'm not forgotten nor alone. In sorrow I am burried deep beneath the tears replacing sleep when all is dark and joy has flown, I'm not forgotten nor alone. When rage devours dignity and wicked waves consume the sea I'll let it pass as still as stone- I'm not forgotten nor alone. Through swaying leaves that whisper peace I breathe the calm and find release. Now I belong and love is known: I'm not forgotten nor alone. back to list |
Ryter RoethicleWe played so many simple games Unversed as yet in complex shames Spirited youth taught our hearts to pretend Regretting now childhood's end. Searching far and wide for lasting proofs To justify our childish games and goofs As we would learn how to offend Regretting now childhood's end. Guided partly by our innocent ideals To which we knew not yet the deals That such innocence would cost us friends Regretting now childhood's end. To love and hate we learned, passing blame That would fuel eternally growing shame We learned we could never defend. Regretting now childhood's end. Oh child now grown, remember those games The fantasies when you would make up names Cherish now the innocence you cannot mend. Regretting now childhood's end. ![]() ----- Donde esta ese Equilibrio Where is the balance in our life Born in an act of pain and strife More often than not happenstance Where is that balance? We reluctantly left the comfort of the womb Now all our future leads us to the tomb First love, family love, cast aside for romance Where is that balance? We love; we love well, for many years, But in time that love finally turns to tears In another ward there is no chance There is that balance? ![]() ----- Green Beast I watched them as they plant the bush Ignorant of the beauty laying there so lush And all that's needed is love and feedback Nature is green it's mans soul that's black. In spring like man, everything is born From winter's womb unwillingly torn As life's mantel begins to re-track Nature is green it's mans soul that's black. Greenies tell so many lies, to get their way Because of their lies firemen must pay, And ignorant of that need to burn back Nature is green it's mans soul that's black. ![]() ----- Qiyamah Finally there is no time left to weep Instead a time when non may sleep It is the last day and no skies of blue With the dimming lights I bid "Adieu" There's no way that we can pretend As darkness comes that it will not end. One by one stars fade leaving on cue With the dimming lights I bid "Adieu" No sun will rise, no wondrous dawn The moon and stars are all now gone. Leaving a black and empty sky view With the dimming lights I bid "Adieu" On the stage of life no-one will play The actors are gone, no lines to say. The curtain falls, all of life is through With the dimming lights I bid "Adieu" ![]() ----- Question of Balance Sitting here in my office in the evening Listening to the noisy crickets singing The rain looks to be gone at first glance And I wonder is there ever a balance? Ten years of drought with hardly a drop But now up North, when will it stop? My gardens doing well at first glance And I wonder is there ever a balance? Then I look back in my country's history Realising it's always been a great mystery. They rarely get it right in the US or France And I wonder is there ever a balance? Greenpeace goes on talk of global warming With loads and loads of bullshit they fling Ignoring there is a tempo in Natures dance And I wonder is there ever a balance? ![]() ----- Walk of Liberty Walking in streets I've never roamed Besides houses that were never homes Eyes look out still, and at the source Remember, you still have force. There's not a house with unlocked doors Grouped people inside, are there in scores Their voice is low and much too hoarse Remember, you still have force. The sun never passes through the glass Or is ignored like all other promises cast Only by protest, can you change the course Remember, you still have force. Why sit around when work must be done Or stand there wondering can I pass it on? It's time to do, and act without remorse Remember, you still have force. Relevance in the way we do our things It's the only way that democracy brings All that is happening, can you endorse Remember, you still have force. ![]() back to list |
Dana RoweYou're walking the street and keeping yourself righteous; holding it all down by being abstentious; but the smell of the beer coming out of that bar is making it happen that you're not getting far. You're living one part angel then one part danger, trying to keep pace with the man from the manger. but wandering on by some hedonist bazaar is making it happen that you're not getting far. eschewing tawdry trappings, modesty your cue, without sackcloth and ashes, yet no ballyhoo; gleaming successes showing you're a superstar, are making it happen that you're not getting far. stepping out of the light, staring into the dark, becoming aware of every blazing star; the cosmos demanding that you enter its sphere and with help from an angel, you're getting quite far! ![]() back to list |
