2012 Poetry Theme Challenges#20 From Dawn to Dusk![]() |
|
There is nothing quite as inspiring as a beautiful sunrise or sunset. Whether it be over hills and mountains,
forests or plains or reflected in seas and lakes each is different and unique. So the challenge this time is to
use that beauty within our poetry either as the main subject theme or as a sub-theme creating a backdrop within
the poem. Happy Quilling! Jemmy XXXX |
From Dawn To Dusk

Terry ClitheroeFor a while the moon hides behind the clouds Hesitant to show her face because she knows What will happen when we lift the shrouds When all of her secrets become exposed. Hesitant to show her face because she knows There is no mystery with love only secrets When all of her secrets become exposed, Then all too often decisions become regrets. There is no mystery with love only secrets, That oft have a way of ignoring what is true. Then all too often decisions become regrets, And what was thought wise begin to rue. That oft have a way of ignoring what is true. This is human, when we should look about And what was thought wise we begin to rue, Creating blackness and encouraging doubt This is human, when we should look about Realising that the absence of moon leaves us Creating blackness and encouraging doubt. Instead sleep in comfort in that darkness. ![]() ----- Golden Rays Golden rays strike the Earth, yet do not bounce The wintry soil reluctantly accepts the sun Even though too rare is seen this solar pounce Preferred dull skies and days of clouds have begun. The wintry soil reluctantly accepts the sun And for a while rekindled warmth remembered. Preferred dull skies and days of clouds have begun And sounds of falling rain too rarely heard. And for a while rekindled warmth remembered. Then prayers for "Old time winters ring out" And sounds of falling rain too rarely heard, Will raise our hopes and out of happiness shout. ![]() ----- Heavenly View It's not a windless spring morning There is a gentle breeze instead And the breeze is stirring the trees Like they are waving to the sun. The grass and flowers follow suit. Away from the glare I see clouds White fluffy ones being pushed along. By noon they will have gone away Then we'll be left with a blue sky And the northerly will get up again Everything will sag with the heat The trees and grass will all go dry We'll be a sunburnt country again Looking forwards to dusk once more. ![]() ----- Over the West Gate The traffic's bad today as it hits the top Because the sun rays hit the unprepared Some drivers have almost come to a stop. At the peak we're level with the waking sun And a sniper could have no better shot One thing's sure at this time driving's no fun It's in the morn driving things are not so hot. Thence once over we look down upon the bay The mountains in front as the sun wakes up For a moment we ignore problems in the fray. Perhaps a blister of balloons come into view Flames keeping them aloft along their way Seeing the dawning sun as he slowly grew And begging him, "Please, for a while do stay." ![]() ----- Penang Dawn (Modern) All I have to do is open my door A table and chair's all I need mostly From here I can see the dawn arise My body is still set on Melbourne time. A table and chair are all I need mostly There's no birdsounds I am ahead of them My body is still set on Melbourne time As I hear the first soundings, I see the light. There's no birdsounds I am ahead of them Just for a while each nest holds a silent feast As I hear the first soundings, I see the light. As from forest clad mountain a light appears Just for a while each nest holds a silent feast Then a cacophony of sound breaks out As from forest clad mountain a light appears Then an avian symphony of sound breaks out. Then a cacophony of sound breaks out The bridge only lit by headlights emerges Then an avian symphony of sound breaks out As the rising sun wakes the flora from slumber The bridge only lit by headlights emerges Too soon civilisation rears its ugly head As the rising sun wakes the flora from slumber And I reluctantly rise returning to Earth again. ![]() back to list |
Divena CollinsWhen autumn leaves begin to fade Leaving a carpet of gold and fawn Tinted illusions of an image is made Within a patchwork of golden dawn. Leaving a carpet of gold and fawn An autumn hound had lost her way Within a patchwork of golden dawn. Shaded hues upon a fine misty day. An autumn hound had lost her way It was hard for her to figure out Shaded hues upon a fine misty day Lost in a maze with leaves all about. It was hard for her to figure out For shades around her were new Lost in a maze with leaves all about Yet with a familiar scent she knew. ![]() ----- Sunset of Love (Malaysian) Calm the night when a sunset glows When all is quiet and still the ocean And only a gentle breeze shall blow Dreams awaken unto natures emotion. When all is quiet and still is the ocean All they need is to be close together Dreams awaken to natures emotion. Then lovers shall be lovers forever. All they need is to be close together Within the warmth of a loving heart A love that is true shall never sever Nor shall their emotions ever depart. Within the warmth of a loving heart When lovers shall remain to be true Nor shall their emotions ever depart From affection `neath a sunsets hue. ![]() back to list |
Jem FarmerMy eyes opened to the sun rise First golden rays were kissing Earth On trees of whispering sighs Echoed in greeting the day's birth. First golden rays were kissing Earth The mountains shimmer purple hue Echoed in greeting the day's birth My eyes opened to look at you. The mountains shimmer purple hue Reflections of a night now gone My eyes opened to look at you Now my heart knows you are the one. Reflections of a night now gone On trees of whispering sighs Now my heart knows you are the one My eyes opened to the sun rise. ![]() ----- Gold on Gold The sun reflects with gold on gold The coming of the autumn day As dying trees are feeling old The sun reflects with gold on gold Beneath the boughs the fairies told The frosty dawns are here to stay The sun reflects with gold on gold The coming of the autumn day. The fairy queen is dressed in red For dancing in the falling leaves Her dainty steps the way ahead The fairy queen is dressed in red The winter sighs 'it's time for bed' And grown-ups say it's make believe The fairy queen is dressed in red For dancing in the falling leaves. ![]() ----- Love In Twilight Behind the hills the sun resigns And just beyond lies destiny A trail of words in poet's lines That led me to the heart of she. And just beyond lies destiny A little further long the way That led me to the heart of she For love is all that’s left to say. A little further long the way I'll see her smile as time suspends For love is all that's left to say For she is where my journey ends. I'll see her smile as time suspends A trail of words in poet's lines For she is where my journey ends Behind the hills the sun resigns. ![]() back to list |
