2012 Poetry Theme Challenges#15 The Non-Olympic Games![]() |
|
Whether you love or hate sport, are pro or anti the Olympics, they are here – again! I thought we could have a little fun
with it anyway. What silly sports would you like to see as an Olympic event, as daft as it can possibly be – sorry guys
synchronized swimming is an official event so we can’t have that. Maybe darts, juggling or tiddly winks, even Olympic charades,
if London 2012 isn’t a charade in itself. The challenge is to write a poem as to why your silly sport should be an Olympic
event. Happy Quilling! Jemmy XXXX |

Jem FarmerThe new event gurners demand, A tradition of grace, So Brits may just win a medal, At pulling a strange face. It takes such skill if you’ve the guts, To take on ugly looks, It’s all fun filled entertainment And one for record books. A game for all those bored by sport Of running round the track, Yet gurning is all about fun So let’s give it a crack. ![]() back to list |
Olympic SonnetsIf only the four yearly Olympics had sonnets You know – the fourteen line little song Waiting four years to read, might be a tad too long Perhaps a championship yearly might help with budgets Or even area finals monthly to encourage each poet With yearly grand finals where you show your worth And these could be held everywhere, all over the Earth It would also be good training to learn how to say it. We could have Dressage, Eventing, or a Straight out race How it looks, how long it will last, or how fast you can read I like how it looks and will last but reading fast’s a silly deed. If you read too fast then take a quick look at your face I would love the Olympics one day to have sonnets included The reader taking part like beach volleyball appropriately nuded. back to list |
