2012 Poetry Form Challenge#15 John Tee SonnetJohn Tee was inspired by the Rondel Prime Sonnet, but realised there was a need for a free verse version and from that concept this form evolved Like the Italian sonnet it has an octave and a sestet, and like the Prime, the octave starts with a couplet and ends with that couplet repeated Similarly the Sestet finishes with that couplet repeated again. Here is an example by Ryter.

From birth she brought such joy into our lives When everyone was mired in deep grief A little girl with starlight in her eyes Helped to soften the pain of my Dad's death. Kathy AndersonIt will rain sunshine on loves tattoos Come high noon's music parade review A sonata was born when our souls collided Just like the oceans tided the breach Everyday in every way harmony constructs The house where butterflies unite... It will rain sunshine on loves tattoos Come high noon's music parade review The key of C was what reconsiled midnight's E And brought two hearts apart to blend For blowing in the wind was the duet Brighid's harp played a major part, It will rain sunshine on loves tattoos Come high noon's music parade review. ![]() back to list |
Terry ClitheroeOnce again the flaming lord of the sky With all his splendour has come into view, Carelessly burning away all opposition. The sky once white with pretentious clouds Is now an open altar to the minions below, Lying prone and almost naked in worship Once again the flaming lord of the sky With all his splendour has come into view, Skin cancer is ignored in favour of fashion. And Hell has been invited on earth for a while. Afterwards worshipers trudge slowly home, To cool showers and air-conditioning. Once again the flaming lord of the sky With all his splendour has come into view. ![]() ----- I am September The mood is mellow and I am September So little time and still so many things to do. I cannot regret one thing I have done For it has made me what I am, content for now. There are things I would change but cannot Not as yet, and I will make my move in time The mood is mellow and I am September So little time and still so many things to do. I do not fear sleep, for I shall wake in spring But will that spring find me alone once again Where I will wander down roads seeking you And finding you, share our seasons once again? The mood is mellow and I am September So little time and still so many things to do. ![]() ----- The Illusionist Once again fate has picked up the rings of life Like any illusionist he shows them to be apart His stellar gown highlights the glinting stars A flash of light! Shazam! The rings are joined. So like any other whim of fate they are as one Their lives separate once, have now been joined Once again fate has picked up the rings of life Like any illusionist he shows them to be apart And here we are you and I awaiting fates move. We have met and joined wondrously together The light is still upon us what will he do? I pray he puts us down and moves along. Once again fate has picked up the rings of life Like any illusionist he shows them to be apart. ![]() ----- I Surrender I surrender to you my heart and soul I'm so certain that we'll never part. In this life we'll set a paradigm Of making love growing a fine art So others will know there is a place That their love will one day begin I surrender to you my heart and soul I'm so certain that we'll never part. In a garden of love that is so fine A garden created whilst separate With a bower forming a loving heart We will see love blossom more each day. I surrender to you my heart and soul I'm so certain that we'll never part. ![]() ----- La Bellezza dell'Amore The beauty of that which is called our love And cannot be compared with any jewel Or weighed and compared with gold. Nor can it be counted in years. There is no measure that's created by man That understands the basic units of life, The beauty of that which is called our love And cannot be compared with any jewel. No value can ever be placed on desire On wanting to share forever one's life. Beyond wealth and far beyond mans power Lies a gift from the Gods that all may see, The beauty of that which is called our love And cannot be compared with any jewel. ![]() ----- Mad Dance Free to dance in the rain, and feel the cold, Loves pain, washed out by the heavens. Being cleansed as I drown my senses Ridding emotions less dense to me. There are no walls of defence, I'm free Free, yes free to be who I want to be. Free to dance in the rain, and feel the cold, Loves pain, washed out by the heavens. Madness, happiness, a splashing child Tears of joy mingling with the water A euphoric feeling in becoming wild A Tarantella now will be waltzing later. Free to dance in the rain, and feel the cold, Loves pain, washed out by the heavens. ![]() ----- No Longer No longer do I soar like the Golden Eagle Looking down on the chequered Earth below. The sun would shine on my wings of gold As they spread out in the flight of day. Instead I am now simply a peaceful dove Content in my ways, but I still fly. No longer do I soar like the Golden Eagle Looking down on the chequered Earth My wings are now the colour of winter I am respected as one with the Earth And have learned to treasure her ways. Too soon only time will fly, I will be gone No longer do I soar like the Golden Eagle Looking down on the chequered Earth below. ![]() ----- Persone di Grazia See as we walk the way our shadows hold hands The way they blend and merge as we stroll along. The sun creates images from out of his golden rays Making them more real than us we might wonder. Look, see how they unite, and the way they blend Having joined are reluctant to be separated by man. See as we walk the way our shadows hold hands The way they blend and merge as we stroll along. Look how they merge, no overlap they transcend To a unity of souls, creating an apotheosis of scenes. They’re not black images, but souls leading us To where our non-physical self is what life means. See as we walk the way our shadows hold hands The way they blend and merge as we stroll along. ![]() ----- Returno Last month we witnessed winters first scenes For a while we saw the splendours of farewell. The leaves had fallen and made messes on roads Which were swept up, or washed away by rain Leaving naked skeletons of trees reaching up As if praying to heaven to clothe them once again. Last month we witnessed winters first scenes For a while we saw the splendours of farewell. Even though its still midwinter, I saw an offer of spring, Bees still diligently at their task helping plants pollinate Following their flight pattern flower to flower. Is that not a sign of spring, a sign of rebirth, when Last month we witnessed winters first scenes For a while we saw the splendours of farewell. ![]() ----- Silver Thread You offered me a silver thread that is so fine The minute I touched it I was your prisoner. I can but hardly see it and yet somehow By this thread of finest soul, so delicate So fine a draw and yet it is so strong That I am bound to thee forever more You offered me a silver thread that is so fine The minute I touched it I was your prisoner. I offer thee my silver thread more crude Ordinary in it's disposition and yet you know Having taken my gift your soul is lost And he will weave a cloth of soul so fine You offered me a silver thread that is so fine The minute I touched it I was your prisoner. ![]() ----- Sonnet to a Sparrow How quiet your chirping now my little friend Autumn daylight keeps you longer anest Now you have no company, no love to send Were you an Eagle she'd be by your breast 'Stead come spring you must court like the rest What a pity I say that finality happened. How quiet your chirping now my little friend Autumn daylight keeps you longer anest You both were very well fed, why did it end In two months you will again build a nest Each time you build, you do your best What a pity you have to build 'stead of mend How quiet your chirping now my little friend Autumn daylight keeps you longer anest. ![]() ----- This Bitter Earth This bitter Earth again weeps with young blood Innocent women, children, and ideals of good. Of power crazy fools and the lies they speak Knowing in the end only the innocent pay. From above the skies, the Earth looks so green Whilst down on the ground's a far different scene. This bitter Earth again weeps with young blood Innocent women, children, and ideals of good. Corporations and lunatics deceive and deny And the media baron encourage that lie. However, some're aware and prepared to fight The might of the masses will do what is right. This bitter Earth again weeps with young blood Innocent women, children, and ideals of good. ----- Vessels A soul is the vessel in which love doth haul Sailing seas on which life constantly storms Fair winds like storm, or calm, just other doors Doors which once opened there is no reverse. We make each life, each love a port of call Not just a journey in life, but a reason to explore A soul is the vessel in which love doth haul Sailing seas on which life constantly storms A constant search each life in fates corridors Meeting for a long time, always wishing more Sometimes like this one our time will be so short But together for Eternity when finality calls A soul is the vessel in which love doth haul Sailing seas on which life constantly storms. ![]() ----- Walk With Me Come! Walk with me in the moonlight There's only you and I this starry night. For have not we been together before And our spirits united for all time? Walking closely together on the beach Holding hands as we cross the sands. Come! Walk with me in the moonlight There's only you and I this starry night. The old beach sands have long memories Holding eternal secrets hidden by time. But what's been forgotten we remember Especially I am yours just as you are mine. Come! Walk with me in the moonlight There's only you and I this starry night. ![]() ----- X for the Loser How can my heart be trusted again, Too easy I gave it and now it's returned? It once was red but now it's mudded black Like it's been dragged along a dirty plain. The memories I hope time will erase But times were good, you gave me hope How can my heart be trusted again Too easy I gave it and now it's returned The spoils of war are now yours alone? It was not love with you, I realise it now Or even lust, which would please me so I finally admit you have me beat. How can my heart be trusted again, Too easy I gave it and now it's returned? ![]() ----- X is for Absence What good is love when there is only silence And the return sometimes is a look and abuse. The nurses look and smile at me in sympathy And I can only cry knowing what used to be. But sometimes there is a look and there is love Then for a moment or a while things are good What good is love when there is only silence And the return sometimes is a look and abuse. Just as quick there is nothing all is gone. From that lady that nursed me and cursed me And loved me beyond reason without doubt Bonding the minute her breast was in my mouth. What good is love when there is only silence And the return sometimes is a look and abuse. back to list |

Jem FarmerSlow steps that lead you gently back to bed While tight blue jeans caress for attention. The cotton shirt falls silent to the floor As fingers let the shy emotions go Into the pools of want where eyes connect And lovers come to bathe in sweet desire. Slow steps that lead you gently back to bed While tight blue jeans caress for attention, Against the tender whiteness of your skin As silk and lace ebb away like the sea Beneath the gently caress of my hands In that breath of love we finally take Slow steps that lead you gently back to bed While tight blue jeans caress for attention. ![]() ----- Soul Secrets Where shards of light entwine with flowing streams, The magic sings with breezy willow trees While lovers hide beneath the rustling green Their wedding bed an old moss-covered stone A secret place behind a weeping veil And love whispers with the water's laughter Where shards of light entwine with flowing streams, The magic sings with breezy willow trees We shared the dreams in our mystical home With falling blossom setting off to sea And we slumbered upon the mossy rock Until the dawn again revealed the day Where shards of light entwine with flowing streams, The magic sings with breezy willow trees. back to list |
