2011 Poetry Form Challenge#07 Quatern |
|
As the name might suggest this form consists of four, four line stanzas. As is typical of
French forms there is a Refrain, but what is unusual is that there is no rhyme sequence specified. As is normal with French poetry it consists of eight syllable lines with no meter specified. The Refrain is the first line of the first stanza, which becomes the second line of the second stanza, the third line of the third stanza and finally the last line of the last stanza.

Divena CollinsFeel soft the breeze thro`our hair As we tread through fields of gold This haven to me shall not compare With the love that autumn shall hold. Lift your eyes to a cool blue sky Feel soft the breeze thro`our hair Hear the songs of a lovers sigh For they truly answer our prayers. Sharing moments of love and care Within natures warming embrace Feel soft the breeze thro`our hair As sunlight and shadows interlace. Hold deep this memory forever clear For always these moments we share A tender touch shall ever be near Feel soft the breeze thro`our hair. ![]() ----- Fantasia I saw that warmth within your eyes As they spoke of desires of love Only precious love shall now portray Those feelings that lay deep within. Your tender touch thrilled me much I saw that warmth within your eyes As you whispered words of love I knew then that our love was divine. You are there within all my dreams In sweet slumber and awakening I saw that warmth within your eyes. As you enclosed me in your arms. That special look that melts my heart When embers of passion glowed In rapturous dreams of fantasia I saw that warmth within your eyes. ![]() ----- Heat Waves Hot is the sun that bathes the flesh Enticing deep the passions within Tender waves of heat shall caress Desires within the realms of sin. Wild are the flames of erotic fires Hot is the sun that bathes the flesh Burning the senses unto desires Sparks the flare of a lovers quest. Dripping beads upon thy breasts Perspirations which drench thy brow Hot is the sun that bathes the flesh When wanton fevers then endow. Anon there shall be dying embers Winds of time hath arisen from rest All too soon when passion lingers Hot is the sun that bathes the flesh. ![]() ----- News At Neighbourhood Watch I only joined neigbourhood watch For a shiny new badge to wear They gave me a pair of binoculars Which around my neck I do bear. Never been one to stick in my nose I only joined neighbourhood watch But I peep behind my lace curtains And I shone my big battery torch. Oh my goodness I have got to go !!! Someone is screaming over the road I only joined neighbour hood watch But I have never been a one to goad. Looks like they are having a rave up Binoculars lens steaming with scorch Maybe I had better go `join` them Like I only joined neighbourhood watch. ![]() ----- Paper Flowers China Moon Of paper flowers beneath a China moon So delicate the blush of red he paints Of tinted buds that shall awaken soon To adorn the crowns of angels or Saints How precious a jewel to bloom so free Of paper flowers beneath a China moon Fragile petals floating forth to the sea That calmly rests by an oceans lagoon. How canst this wonder flourish so soon From withered boughs once were bare Of paper flowers beneath a china moon That bloomed when not a bud was there. Had an artists brush created this scene Of the delicate petals his art had strewn This masterpiece that has simply been Of paper flowers beneath a China moon. ![]() ----- Rendezvous When I close my eyes and think of you Of days and nights shared together Now embedded deeply within view Memories I shall remember forever. I shall always remember our first kiss When I close my eyes and think of you Those nights together were utter bliss And I know you felt the same way too. As time passed by my feelings grew I knew we were meant for each other When I close my eyes and think of you I could never fall in love with another. Some day soon when the time is right We continue our blissfull rendezvous My dreams come true shall re- ignite When I close my eyes and think of you. ![]() ----- Satin Sheets To lie betwixt soft satin sheets And dream of thy lovers caress Of warmth and passion therein Upon the heat of a summer eve. There is a feeling of sensuality To lie betwixt soft satin sheets Inducing an eve of lusty dreams In a fantasy of restless sleep. Oh if only these desires came true Those erotic delights of the flesh To lie betwixt soft satin sheets With an intensity of lust therein Entranced in dreams of emotion With the touch of a lovers hand Leading gently with keen desires To lie betwixt soft satin sheets. ![]() ----- Spirits of Trees Hail blythe spirits of woodland sage Now hath arisen from days gone by From the heart of an aged forest tree To harken the screech of an owl cry. Returns from the dark age to rebirth Hail blythe spirits of woodland sage Thy sap still lies deep within thy girth With boughs that lived a sacred age. Dark the forest that breathes no light When growth is forbidden to flourish Hail blythe spirits of woodland sage No longer replenished to nourish. Goodness of soil must be returned It is writ in mother natures page All that is lost must always go back Hail blythe spirits of woodland sage. ![]() ----- Torment What is this torment I feel inside That warns me of a broken heart Making me want to run and hide When love is lost how do I start. Why do I shrink in crowded rooms What is this torment I feel inside I fade away when a shadow looms Devoid of my confidence and pride. If I cannot take life in its stride If all is lost then how do I cope What is this torment I feel inside Might there be a glimmer of hope. How then when I find love do I chose Shall I be right in my mind to decide Or shall I be wrong and again I lose What is this torment I feel inside. ![]() ----- Trumpet Flower Trumpet flower come play thy tune From thy sweet scented core within Golden delights of honey in June Upon stamens of nectar therein. Over the mountain tips and far away. Trumpet flower come play thy tune Call the sun to enlighten this day For dark shall now be upon you soon. Through the meadows down the lane Dancing through the ripening corn Trumpet flower come play thy tune Sing thy praise to a new day born. Go home honey bee for dark is nigh Soon we shall see the harvest moon Shadows reaching towards the sky Trumpet flower come play thy tune. ![]() ----- Victim How could she see the dangers ahead Thumbing a lift down a country lane She had no sense in her young head Risking a chance that was quite insane. If she screamed no one would hear How could she see the dangers ahead Did no one ever warn her of this fear Or did she shrug them aside instead. She was too naive and easily misled And had known not how or even why How could she see the dangers ahead When never a soul could hear her cry. All too often this misfortune prevails Mothers today are oft` filled with dread This was a girl who once wore pony tails How could she see the dangers ahead. ![]() ----- Words Of Love All too freely were words of love used Without a thought of true meaning Is it any wonder we are confused An unexpected phrase of feeling. Can it be what we speak of is untrue All too freely were words of love used Is to love what we are all meant to do Or is the definition very often abused. Is it heart beats that is then accused Or has misted eyes revealed the same All too freely were words of love used And should not be spoken with shame. When feelings are felt from deep inside Within the strength of that love infused Shall then run smooth within their stride All too freely were words of love used. ![]() back to list |
Gloria Carpenterexuding drops of liquid spill a lullaby of gentle rain has sent me off to sleep again within a shower of dreams until awakened by a stream of light exuding drops of liquid spill my dreams and yet they cling on still to moistened skin in raw delight full splash descends from such a height as cascades flow and send a thrill exuding drops of liquid spill in fluid movement to ignite a passion drowned in downpour’s chill while cats and dogs sing their refrain as downcast eyes well up and drain exuding drops of liquid spill. ----- Cradlesong ~ Claire de Lune As starry eyed she sees the light, a crescent moon sways up above. No clouds to hide her beam tonight. Her smile is bright and clear as love. She looks below while slumber rests, as starry eyed she sees the light. For dreamers settled in their nests, her wish is sent for sweet delight. And as she rocks, her hopes held tight, she hums a moonlit cradlesong, as starry eyed she sees the light in harmony where all belong. Her music calms the nightwind’s cares. Soft breezes drift in waves of night among its ocean’s twinkling prayers, as starry eyed she sees the light. ----- In Silence in silence I hear music play as birds are noted for their song and soar above high sea with ease or rest on lines transmitting sound on rippling waves or thunderous roar in silence I hear music play eternally a rhythmic voice emotions tied to ebb and flow a symphony of wind and strings from soft caress to vibrant bursts in silence I hear music play as rushes brush their breezy air for hearts will beat in harmony amidst such euphony of soul a timeless essence everywhere in silence I hear music play ----- Shadow Skin My shadow slipped into the sea in solitude, a satin veil, adrift on sands of shaded pale, in wafts of visibility. It cast a mask of fringing fear. My shadow slipped into the sea. A surface showed a shallow me, as shivers rippled, ever near. Afloat with hope, it persevered, alight with luminosity. My shadow slipped into the sea. Abandoning, it disappeared. I stayed, not wishing to be free, as though, it was, I’d shed a skin ~ and wondered, "Where do I begin?" My shadow slipped into the sea. back to list |

Allura DWhen the rains come I tilt my face, Letting life soak me to the skin With welcome to each drop that falls, Sliding soft like tears to chin. Regarding each as lifetimes spent. When the rains come I tilt my face, A mingling of joy and tears, Of paths that led me to this place Where sorrow hand in hand resides With gladness as she bravely sings. When the rains come I tilt my face Toward each gift that living brings. I will not turn away again But meet each dawn with truth and grace, Accepting all that life bestows. When the rains come- I tilt my face. back to list |
Jem FarmerThose beads recalling all the things I dread Old incantations from surrendered knees Filling my mind with words I should not have read And I cannot hear the whispering breeze I look around me, no chance to escape, Those beads recalling all the things I dread And my soul lives again the endless rape That tortured my heart from daybreak to bed. I pray the thoughts would simply leave my head And let me lead the life I now desire Those beads recalling all the things I dread Still burning inside me like hell’s own fire My Lady sees me crying out in the night And led me to the world of ancient dead I saw the Pagan ways of light ignite Those beads recalling all the things I dread ----- Radiant Ladies Come dance in Springtide’s earthy light In gardens now a-washed with gold They bid farewell to Winter’s bite Those radiant ladies I am told. As life is found in ancient ways Come dance in Springtide’s earthy light To welcome signs of warmer days When length of day equals the night. Balance in life is my sweet delight When knelt in praise to holy queen Come dance in Springtide’s earthy light She says to me in voice serene. So drummer, give my feet a beat May your rhythm still lead me right To the place where the spirits meet To dance in Springtide’s earthy light. ----- Sin of Science The claim that science let the old gods die; In our wisdom we needed them no more. They did not speak like they did once before; We had no time to pray or wonder why. Our quest for power has brought global pain The claim that science let the old gods die; In plumes of smoke that bore the acid rain We let our poisons destroy earth and sky. In words of politics we heard Man’s lie; We took control of fate to sate our greed. The claim that science let the old gods die; We took and stole from those with greater need. Mid crimes of hate we voice protest, at last; And whispered truths have heard our sorrow cry, As faith returns to see beyond and past The claim that science let the old gods die. ----- Slow Bits Within the rushing world that’s lost to time, The time to sit and wonder why birds sing, Or read a book of prose or charming rhyme; No time to whisper love or simply ring. Why must our lives be such a saddened waste? Within the rushing world that’s lost to time, Our children grow and live in equal haste, As we ne’er stopped to hear their voices chime. So take a breath, inhale the fragrant pine, Before the world has gone and left you to rot! Within the rushing world that’s lost to time, We have become fools that should be forgot. Permit your feet to walk a slower pace, To feel the Earth beneath, it is no crime, For life is ours to live, it’s not a race, Within the rushing world that’s lost to time. ----- Two Sisters To friends that dance in darkest night They raise the power of witches’ spell As voices chant in candle light In ways of wise they know so well. In harmony their music sings To friends that dance in darkest night Releasing love on angels’ wings Two sisters sharing magic rite. The Lady fair comes into sight And claims the old ways survive To friends that dance in darkest night In arcane blue their workings strive. Within the circle they are bound Two sisters soon to take their flight Across the sky the cosmic sound To friends that dance in darkest night back to list |
Jeff FeezleInhabitant of my soul, thus we share Where room is asked with ghostly stare What breath is held, then taken away Beguiled smiles make billowy brides Hearing peaceful coo, within us resides Inhabitant of my soul, thus we share I consider myself: child; eyed innocent soft glow of your letters: have mercy. Amount of time, around us shorten Build my love in Babylon spires Inhabitant of my soul, thus we share Hair of heather, hands bound together Deep in the well of love’s lunacy We’ll dry in fires of perpetual peace Gently turns the leaves, rainbows rapture Inhabitant of my soul, thus we share back to list |
Kevin McKinneyTonight, I only want to laugh; In truth, it hurts too much to think; I'm always sifting wheat from chaff And drowning where I cannot drink. As if I loved the whole wide world, Tonight, I only want to laugh; And leave this happy smile unfurled To let it be my epitaph! A future flag may fly half staff, But I would put an end to fear; Tonight, I only want to laugh And wish the world, Happy New Year; That peace and progress soon would reign, And all good people feast and quaff In earthly paradise again! Tonight, I only want to laugh! ----- Defining Moment We must be, by definition Of the journey, in the middle; Determining our position Makes for an interesting riddle. To be in this vicinity, We must be, by definition, A measurable proximity From the primary ignition. Thus, by simple intuition, Excusing my temerity, We must be, by definition, Half the way through eternity. But judging how child-like we rage, In the face of true cognition, Though I doubt we're acting our age; We must be, by definition. ----- Limited Warranty There being no manual for the heart, How did you obtain skill enough To join and tear mine fresh apart; All without handling me too rough? I am not made of hardened steel; There being no manual for the heart, The more you probe, the worse I feel, The less remains here to impart. That's life; impossible to chart Such realms of possibility, There being no manual for the heart. With constant inconsistencies, It makes no sense then, to pretend To cure myself, nor to be smart Enough to guess how things will end; There being no manual for the heart. ----- Mute Testimony I can't say my heart is broken, More aptly, it's rusted away; From being left out in the open In all your weather, night and day. As it happened so discreetly, I can't say my heart is broken; It just came apart so neatly, My endurance, but a token. As drop by drop, rain fills oceans, A process taking many years, I can't say my heart is broken; But quietly unnoticed, tears Have cut a channel through the stone. Still, as grief once left unspoken Becomes exposed like fossile bone, I can't say my heart is broken. ----- Selective Service Three steps up, bow to your lady, Circle around her to your right, Though she turns away your favors, You do your best to stay in sight. Zig to the left, bobbing your head; Three steps up, bow to your lady; Pretend to pick up crumbs of bread, That way, she'll know you're not lazy. Zag to the right, coo like crazy, You'd surely win if you could sing; Three steps up, bow to my lady, Show her the three stripes on your wing. Little grey corporal, try your dance On her girlfriend; looks like maybe You don't rate; guess she likes sergeants! Three steps up, bow to your lady. back to list |
Peggy NelsonWe shall see the future and become one Blest Walk along path I shall hold your hand baby When hunger strikes, we shall eat and rest I shall hold you in my tender arms, alone we be Soft whispers of our love to each other we speak We shall see the future and become as one Blest Each moment and movement of love we seek We'll caress our souls with radiate loving zest I shall sooth your beautiful skin with a soft crest No lingering in gray clouds; your eyes will shine We shall see the future and become one Blest To touch your soul and fill you; you shall be mine Caress me with scrumptious lips; I’m yours to expand Tonight we found heavenly bliss, we professed Tomorrow comes bringing us more to love and; We shall see the future and become one Blest. ![]() ----- From One Donk To Another ![]() ----- OUCH! Ryter RoethicleStanding in the shredded bark Cast off by Gum trees in early autumn As they prepare a new winters coat Of dark grey, silver and brown. The mornings now are cold Standing in the shredded bark The glare blinds and slows morning traffic But by noon it will be warm enough The morbid colours do not attest to death Nor do they call for sleep Standing in the shredded bark Simply for a while they will be at peace And their soon to be green leaves Will welcome respite from drought And the blazing, scorching sun Still standing in the shredded bark. Supplemento And in the heat of day, See a leaf as she plays in a thermal Swirling with her sisters in a mad dance Egged on by the music of birdsongs As they pray to their God the sun, But all too soon the shadows grow long And the music ends and dancers sleep. ![]() ----- Blessed Heaven Blessed Heaven pour down your tears, You’ve washed away past summers ash, In gentle drops that will now soak in, And bring nature back to life once more. Grey clouds are welcome with their gifts, Blessed Heaven pour down your tears, Constance pray, with easy labour Pick the spots where rare you called Oh welcome with your bless’d relief, Shimmering plants are glossed by thee. Blessed Heaven pour down your tears, And see all life here supping with glee. The scorched earth once brown with thirst, Parched and cracked at last feels relief, All those savoury scents gather whilst Blessed Heaven pour down your tears. ----- Creatures of the night Cry loudly now, creatures of the night See leathered wings beat in the moonlight The maidens open window comes in sight Changing quietly he moves into her sight. Hair askew in slumber on her bed she lies Cry loudly now, creatures of the night At first there is fear, then loves surprise Her throat, her soul she offers, invites his bite Bodies joined in passion their flesh ignite With vows exchanged in hellish might Cry loudly now, creatures of the night. A Queen created of Darkness Flight Together each night seeking a bloody prize To feed their habit their perpetual rite Eternal life, but death to see the sunrise. Cry loudly now, creatures of the night. ![]() ----- Dark Lord The night of moonlight gathers us, In the distance night creatures call, And I smile in anticipation, I am thirsty and the nights begun. The howl you hear is not a wolf, The night of moonlight gathers us, Nor is that creature flying, a bat, In your mind you already know that. Open your window and let me in, I can promise you eternal life, The night of moonlight gathers us, Come join me, be a Vampire’s wife. Your throat so soft and white and bare, You offer me, I pierce with care, I have become your incubus, The night of moonlight gathers us. ![]() ----- Finale in the Rain On drizzling days in the forest of my mind There is a power in grey, driving rain Sometimes it’s a power to overcome and Sometimes it creates my most sombre moods If only to cry like the sky, laden with tears On drizzling days in the forest of my mind Overcoming the large leafed trees of thought That bow in deference to the purging water Birds hunched and shivering on the branches Sit mute, singing silenced, overcome On drizzling days in the forest of my mind Caused by a flood that created its own sound Then gradually it eases and silence pervades Save for the occasional dripping of ideas That drips down on the cleansed sheet On drizzling days in the forest of my mind ![]() ----- Grunido Estacional (Seasonal Grumling) Winter is coming to this island again Even though the day is lovely and warm The nights are longer and getting cold I feel winter is just around the corner. The glare in the morn’s straight in the eyes Winter is coming to this island again The drive into work is straight at the sun As is the drive home over the bridge. The morning chill soon dissipates And blue skies are forecast for a while Winter is coming to this island again You can feel the chill in the SW wind. We complain about heat in summer We can’t complain of the drought this year But soon we’ll complain about the cold Winter is coming to this island again. ![]() ----- I Taste Your Essence I taste your essence on my lips, I sense you blowing on the wind, I feel you still at my fingertips, And see you smiling in my mind. As heavenly dust of passion grips, I taste your essence on my lips, Your soul and body to unwind, My will to lock and mind to bind. Each night with dusk I feel a kind, Of bond with you of honeyed sips. I taste your essence on my lips, And feel our very souls combine. My lips your body too explore, Closer now to Heavens door, As unrestrained, passion grips, I taste your essence on my lips. ![]() ----- Jealous for a while The morning wind blows across your face It’s Nature’s kiss and one I long to copy I love the thought of my lips travelling, Feeling the soft redness surrender to mine. I envy and am jealous of that blessed wind The morning wind blows across your face. Should I be jealous that the wind is blessed Or be proud knowing that you are mine? It is neither as nature is our mother, She is as such allowed to caress her child. The morning wind blows across your face And you feel the love she bestows on you. Your eyes light, knowing you’re loved so well Your smile lights up the already happy day. I bless the wind and nature for her gifts, as The morning wind blows across your face. ![]() ----- Journey on a Different Path Enjoy the mystery that the moon inspires, And walk down paths you have never trod Perhaps this will lead you to a path Where experience will not help you Then you must take your heart in your hand Enjoy the mystery that the moon inspires, And surrender it and risk breaking it Too the complete stranger you see before you. Who is your guide along this strange path? Experience says, "Ignore this stranger". Enjoy the mystery that the moon inspires, Don’t take the familiar path and walk alone. That guide could be your soul partner, And even if you break your heart again You have walked a different path. Enjoy the mystery that the moon inspires. ![]() ----- No Yes in Yesterday There is no yes in yesterday Some beliefs may last forever There are those you solemnly swear And others are so easy to betray. I’ve been around and done a lot There is no yes in yesterday. I’m thankful now for all I’ve got Not regretting the bill I had to pay. Some memories are not reality Your mind creates what it wants to be There is no yes in yesterday. And don’t worry its best that way. What of the future what of dreams? Dreams we should not be without And hopes that we can build on There is no yes in yesterday. ![]() ----- The Waratah The Waratah waves at the midday sun, Whilst our day at work is well begun. See a sea of red on sandy soil, And like the Lily she does not toil. As fresh life o’er mountains starts to run, The Waratah waves at the midday sun. Nectar seeking birds in early spring, Cause seeds to spread on wooden wing. Beauteous seas from the Darling mouth, Reach down to Conjola in the south. The Waratah waves at the midday sun. Born of flame when bushfires are done, New South Wales art forms reveal, This wondrous flower on their seal. Revelling as being the chosen one, The Waratah waves at the midday sun. ![]() ----- X Morning Are you a long past memory of my life, Portraying life as what used to be, Or a fantasy of what I want to see And very much different from reality? Nia WynneThis mask we all wear about town Is the fascade of a cultures Religion, politics and pomp, So many people are urbane. Round here, straight there, square somewhere else There was this form shadowing me, At first it drew shapely curves for Which my eyes could feast, thereby know It wasn't really me, just forms That took the place of all that's real, There was this form that shadowed me Followed every move, missing none.
