2010 Poetry Theme Challenges#15 Remembrance![]() |
|
Yes, it is Remembrance Sunday here in the UK this coming weekend, and it has made me think about the word itself.
Remembering the sacrifice of others during wars has led to many great poems. However remembrance can be personal and
intimate too. I was at my grandfather's funeral a couple of years ago and the words of the priest were just going
over me as my thoughts were with my grandfather on the downs of Sussex when I was a kid. Yet there is no theme or
genre for it - so the challenge is personal remembrances and how they bring a loved one to life. Quills ready, go write! Jem XXXX |

Divena CollinsI nearly always forget to remember Where I put things by that I have lost My forgetful minds like a fading ember Of those whose past memories exhaust; I bought some nice shoes the other day `Twas the shoes, not box, that I threw away They cost me a fortune, it was a great sin The refuse collector had emptied the bin; If only my forgetful mind would behave I climb upstairs to change all the beds Forgot I was there and had slept instead Sprayed the kitchen but flies I did save; `Twas I who curled up with a tummy upset How I wish I remembered not to forget. ![]() ----- Heart of an Angel On a broken down bridge they walk upon With rapids and waterfalls raging below They see no danger when they skip along No fear or anxiety were they ever to know; Whatever they do wherever they may be The sense of danger they just cannot see They seem contented and happy to play Yet danger is never much distance away; To explore in their World is all they crave But an angels heart with her guiding hand Who loves and protects and will understand Shall be there in spirit their souls to save; Two children exploring the wild country wide With the heart of an angel close by their side. ![]() ----- Some Day Could I e-er forget this love so divine When I now dream constantly of thy touch Supping the sweet red sap from a vine Oh how we had loved each other so much; Tho` this parting doth bring sweet sorrow Knowing there shalt always be tomorrow Maketh this our passion groweth stronger Days and months shall appear to be longer; But patience then embraces a lovers heart As the dew drops kiss the autumn ground Then once again this love shalt be found `Til winters ice and snow drifts them apart; But lovers remain haunting thro`the night Loving each other softly when time is right. ![]() back to list |
Jem FarmerHer eyes reflect the beginning and end in charcoal pools that reach deep in the soul it is on her mercy I now depend for life is done; I go to her parole. Her touch may send a shiver down my spine her whisper leads me to her realms divine in wings of darkest black I take my shade as in her love through death I’ll be remade. Upon my knees as I begin to cry, it is her voice that stills my raging mind and her embrace that I long to find as in my fear I ask her how and why. I know now that she will never leave me but in her love I am forever free. back to list |

Ryter RoethicalIs it so long since we shared so much Time rushes by yet there has not been a day When I haven’t missed you and your touch And wanted to be with you in every way. Music united us each and every night Yet also was very much part of our living day From the waking light and afternoons play Till that final moment turned out the light. Now there is no music because it causes pain How I wish we could be lovers again But too much has been said and pain digs deep But tell me who you dream of when you sleep Too much has been said to ease your pride But what do you really feel deep inside? back to list |
