2010 Poetry Form Challenge#09 Elizabethan Sonnets |
|
Everyday in the Poetry round this month, I will be posting a sonnet by a poet who wrote sonnets
during the Elizabethan era. These poems will also be reflected in a site especially constructed
where they can be linked to that posts site where a selection, if not all that poets sonnets will
be available for you to read at your leisure. The challenge should you chose to accept it, is simply to write a sonnet in any of the forms of sonnet that was available during that period. There is no suggestion that a sonnet has to be posted every day. Unlike normal challenges no examples will be given this time, I suggest that you draw from the example posted that day. |

Maryse AchongSome times we have to shut our eyes to see, To still our minds so we can understand, To close our ears to life’s cacophony, So that our heart and soul go hand in hand. If we could glimpse a part of life’s great plan And know how insignificant we are, If we could hear the words of God not man Then we would have indeed come very far. We may believe we’re masters of our fate, Convince ourselves we play a major role, But He who fills our cup and clears our plate Is the One who is really in control. There is is one Godhead, One Being Supreme, And we’re part of His all inclusive team. ----- Hello Hello Like some sublime signal out of nowhere, A mem’ry comes to mind, I know not why, At times it is a distinct sound I hear, Or a familiar fragrance that wafts by. Can these be messages from people I Have known and loved but who are far away, Who for some reason I have bid ‘goodbye,’ But cherish the hope that perhaps one day We’ll meet, no matter how long the delay? Even when we’re apart physically, And there’s no phone, fax or email to say ‘I miss you,’ spirits reach out easily. Perhaps the little bird on your window, Has come to tell you someone says ‘hello.’ ----- Island Breezes Island breezes rush by me bringing news I hear them whisper in the mango tree As softly as the gentle lover woos, And mesmerized I listen carefully; But before I catch what they are saying In the blink of an eye they’re off again Rustling leaves and branches, almost playing, And ere long followed by a cooling rain. I like to think that messages are borne Upon winds as they blow from place to place, That leave folks joyous or at times forlorn One never knows which one will be the case. Island breezes what tidings do you bring Come tell me everything that’s happening. ----- Memories I shed no more tears love, that time has passed, Though there are days when I am sorely pressed By memories that recall both the best And worst times of my life, a huge contrast… For a while on cloud nine, and then aghast. Together life was a near perfect dream, And we knew happiness in the extreme, But little did we know the die was cast And you’d be gone in the blink of an eye, And I’d be left appalled, adrift, alone, Too shocked for a long time to even cry, It seemed as if my heart had turned to stone. Tears and time heal but deep wounds leave a scar, And cherished thoughts of you are never far. ----- OUCH! I am in pain my knee’s under attack, It seems a beastie is lurking inside With hammer and sharp knife to pound and hack, Determined this is where it will reside Rent free. If I get hold of it I’d whack It right into next year; I’d kick its hide And wipe the smirk from its face with a smack I wouldn’t stop until the critter cried “Enough, I’m gone, I swear I won’t be back!” ‘Til then I’m popping pills and must decide Whether to use heating pad or ice pack, And then console myself with a nice snack. ----- Star Quality A female Prime Minster for our isles, Hers was an undisputed victory, There were many congratulat’ry smiles, And she has earned her place in history. They hail her as the long awaited wind Of change which they believe is blowing now; They’ve welcomed her with open arms and pinned Their hopes on her; yet still I’m not sure how She plans to keep the promises she made: But she deserves a chance to prove to all That she is capable, will make the grade, And will emerge at the end standing tall. I watch with bated breath as things unfold, And pray that all that glitters is true gold. ----- This Time for Africa As shouts of ‘Waka waka’ fill the air And football madness is spread far and wide I’m afraid I must shamefully declare That I have no preference for any side. I don’t even know which teams are playing, But that song moves something inside of me I ignore what everyone is saying, And I hum ‘Waka Waka’ constantly. I need no banner, whistle, waving flag, Will not watch every game with pounding heart And my spirits will neither soar nor sag Nor will I record results on a chart. Everywhere people sing ‘Waka waka’, The song proclaims ‘This time for Africa…’ ----- Thoughts on a Father's Day Another Father’s Day has come around, Another day of wishing you were here, And although many years have flown I’ve found I miss you just as much, year after year. Another day of wishing you were here, Although I know you’d run your earthly race, I miss you just as much, year after year, I would give anything to see you face. Although I know you’d run your earthly race That you were weary then, ready to go, I would give anything to see your face But you are happy where you are I know. So Dad if you’re around you’ll hear me say “I love and miss you, Happy Father’s Day.” back to list |
Divena CollinsHow deep this bond of love we hath shared, For passions lay deep within a lovers hold Loving hearts shalt not e`er be compared, How they once were in past spirits of olde To find perfect harmony and peace within Together both forever as time stands still How canst these feelings be cast as a sin When this loves so true it shalt bear no ill; Time passes by this love groweth stronger Each blessed day much more than before For this is a love that shalt last much longer A bonding to be cherished for ever more How precious is this love of heavenly bliss And sweeter the dew of thy morning kiss. ![]() ----- Embracing Love A love that is true doth have no reason Of why in their hearts they feel this way When love doth embrace a summer season How brightly the sun enhances this day; And the warmth they shall both feel inside As they hazily dream through misty eyes, In depths therein where true love resides That shalt e`er portray thy heavenly sighs; There is no substitute it hath not a place For the chosen one, is the utmost choice And eternal love shalt for ever embrace Pleasures of a lovers endearing voice; Thus now and forever thy spiritual guide Shalt not in this passion e`er be denied. ![]() ----- Fantasies Of Love Oh ye fair spirit of the woodlands sage Who hath pledged her promise of love And writ her oath on an age old page To a knight from the Kings realm above; They sampled the joys of loves delight Within a spiritual, and mystical trance Enclosed in sweet fantasies by night Until the dawns crystal dewdrops dance; How sweetly this love they had bestow`n Togetherness they hath both now shared For this inner warmth inside hath shown; That both these true lovers really cared Now this their bond of love hath sealed And love sweet love, once more revealed. ![]() ----- The Higwayman Oh the highway man spurred hard his steed As he urged him towards thickets and dales, O`er high fences thro` brooks tangled reeds Forked lightening with loud thundrous gales. This night was long he was faced with dread Had been pursued beyond wildest dreams With a most handsome reward on his head, For robbing the passenger coach and team. He was notorious this bold highway man And was hunted for his moonlight robbery Loads his saddle bag as much as he can Of the passengers riches and snobbery, While his faithful steed with breath of foam Returns him once more to his hideaway home. ![]() ----- Last Fish Dead are deep oceans and oil soaked sands No more fish for they have all disappeared Gone are the culprits who poisoned the land Volcano`s and Earthquakes now are feared Mountains of land fills for the end is neared; Of rubbish collected throughout the beginning With power and vigour the oceans surf reared Over the land a massive tsunami was rising Mother nature`s mourned this tragic uprising; All the beauty she created had now unfurled The nurtured creation of survival was dying With no way to save this love for our World; This world they named the land of the free But there`s one fish left in this acrid sea. ![]() Only when the last tree has died and the last river been poisoned and the last fish been caught will we realise we cannot eat money. Cree Indian saying ----- Natural Instincts To dream unadorned in the midst of dawn And bathe in sweet mists of morning dew Within my passion nature`s fantasies grew, To sweet desires of my lover I was drawn; Oh where art thou, for I crave thee so much Dost thy not know that my passion is real Thy spiritual desires shalt know how I feel That in my wanton need I long for thy touch; Oh come to me my love hold me in thy arms That we may seek this our paradise of love Through the warmth of the sun from above And portray thy sensuous masculine charms; To dream unadorned in the midst of dawn And bathe in sweet mists of morning dew. ----- Natures Artistry Great wonders of nature delights the eye When the beauty of this Earth does grow Like an artists brush with shades that flow; `Neath a summer sun, with a gentle sigh A perfect romance of land and the sky, Creating fine scents of the flowers we know Within glades of green as soft breezes blow, Where seeds of dandelion clocks gently fly In a heavenly spray of an evening shower; The seedlings of nature drift wild and free Above the tall mountains and over the sea Until they rest and there they shall flower, There`s creation of beauty in all we can see Placed here on this earth just for you and me. ![]() ----- Natures Disaster When the last tree is severed from the land And all wild fruits are gathered from the field Then, and only then shalt people understand Creations hath perished with a fruitless yield; Still they desire these forests in which to walk For to climb up sturdy trees so strong and free While picking the wild berries from their stalk Only to comprehend and to make them see; That thy cannot take and still watch them grow To take away completely would be a shame There will come a day when they want to know That every tree and flower doth bear a name; Like us they live and breathe with sap within To destroy this wonder shalt surely be a sin. ![]() ----- Perfumed Garden I hath slept the sleep, of a thousand years Opened wide my eyes upon a sunlit day Upon a stranger world yet I bore no fear This land before me, from a distance away; Thy beauty within didst touch me so dear A perfumed Garden sweet blossom array This heavenly scent had tempteth me near To kneel with angels for e`er I shalt pray; Unto this paradise cometh winds of change Divine spirits of past hath broken free Lost in a dream which was then out of range Blind in my thoughts that eyes could not see; To return from dreams so real yet strange And awaken years later, to a newly borne me. ![]() ----- Phantom Horseman Unto the shadow`d darkness of the night, Thro`the denseness of a wooded glade A galloping horseman tho`not in my sight Whilst the pounding hoof beats doth fade; `Twas this a haunting from days long past Of ghostly phantoms, an unfinish`d quest Whilst nervous hound remain`d stead fast For unknown spirits, hounds knoweth best; Returneth again from a long sleep of death To haunt thy paths where mortals now tread And mingle the past with the presents breath Hast thou ventur`d back from the silent dead; Chastising the living of life whom hath fared To deliver them ill, and render them scared. ![]() ----- Shadows What is this that stalks the dead of night That which lurks in quiet niches of the mind Is it real or imagination, have we yet to find That ghostly shadow`s haunt within our sight; Hiding from the glare of the full moons light The remains if what is left of past mankind Returned from tomb, shadows intertwine In evening mists where mortals take flight; Are we tomorrows, shadows of the past Fortune laid out where the stones were cast Have past lives returned to lead us the way From the land of the living we love so dear; In a place unknown with our lost ones near And guardian angels, where there is no day. ![]() ----- Spirit Of Love Tread silently forth unto this moonlit night That I may dream sweet dreams of thee To open my eyes towards mornings light When thy heights of passion floweth free; Come hold me gently entwin`d in thy arms And harken to the rhythmic beat of my heart Come nigh my lover with thy loving charms That hath etched with love from cupids dart; Bright jewell`d shone the love in our eyes As we maketh sweet love here together And silvery moons shadow from the skies We both knew we were one then forever; This love so defined shalt always be true For lost spirits shalt return to begin anew. ![]() ----- Spirit Of Love In time through the dense mists of dreams Arisen in spirit form together once more Thro` frothy white foam that flows on the shore To search once again for pleasure supreme; Once more our love reaches high esteems Sweet passion now deeper than ever before True love returneth from past days of yore Lost spirits once more forever to redeem; Closer together, though deep oceans apart Spiritually we knew, from each learned sage Our love had flourished right from the start In an ancient book with an eternal page; A captains log, with love etched on his chart Returns from the sea, from a bygone age. ![]() The Shell - Vladimir Kush ----- Sweet Memories The grandfather clock in the hall struck loud As they climbed up the stairway to bed A shaky old lady adorned a night shroud And her spouse wore a nightshirt instead; A devoted couple who had seen better days Remembered when once they were young Memories fade, true love remains always Their praise of love has so often been sung; They remained great lovers but once a year And their honeymoon eve was a sunday For now their blessed anniversary is here They shall enjoy love in their own special way; The way that they can at their very own pace Just to snuggle up with a smile on their face. ![]() ----- Tales Of Love A Tallow candle flickered nigh unto the night Perished thus, to a tiny dying burnt out flame. Until the candle canst offer no more light, Thus melting tallow, hiding lovers name, Whyever then, in this darkened room of gloom, Whilst thou peruse thy tome, on tales of love, With not, a moonbeam shining in thy room Graceing the heavenly, darkened sky above,. Canst thou not hold, this great novel to thy heart, Cherish this writ of love, within thy soul, Visualise images deep in thy pages of art. Composed with passion on parchment scroll. Tho` dying flames of tallow shalt behold Thus tales of love, in spirit hath been told. ![]() ----- Unfinished Symphony When warm and gentle breezes blow a kiss Whispering softly of love, true love divine Spirits soar high while lovers limbs entwine Desires anew with a sensual touch of bliss; Creating precious moments to reminisce Cherished hearts of love cannot be blind Both spirit and soul eternally combined This unconditional love shalt always exist; There shalt be no barriers, none whatever For love shines true through loving eyes In mists of time we shall belong together Upon waves may this passion ebb and rise; Remain locked in desirous dreams forever Where spirits combine loves symphony lies. ----- The Vigil Must I all alone, this silent vigil keep, Passions hidden within an aching heart Saddened eyes of tears, flow and weep As raging oceans wrench us both apart; Why in this forsaken world of pleasure Shalt not fantasy take the place of woe. And loving hearts be ours to treasure For nurtured love shalt bloom and grow; There shalt be no barriers, none whatever When love shines through two loving eyes In the midst of time canst we be together, Upon waves may this passion ebb and rise. Within peaceful ripplets of a gentle sea, Sweet love cherished as spirits run free. ![]() ----- Writ of Love My dearest love thou hath covet`d my very heart, So deeply my wanton breasts doth ache for thee Within this wrath I doth pray thy shalt ne`er depart Remains within tender whispers of loves divinity For together we hath felt joyous and heavenly bliss And hath felt deep grievance of sorrow and pain Wept tears, which were bless`d with a loving kiss To sweeten through soft whispers loves refrain; Troubl`d dayes doth maketh love grow strong Whilst calmer waters flow thro` thy sincere heart And thus we knoweth for e`er we both belong For a passion such as this shalt ne`er depart.; Verily I send to thee by soft wings of a dove With fondness and sincerity thus my writ of love. ![]() ----- You Take My Breath Away Oh how the joys of love doth enthral me so Thy linger`d kiss press`d nigh upon my lips, Whilst gentle tremors ignite my heart aglow When Spirits of love enjoys a total eclypse Thus inner feelings shalt then forever grow, All my love for thee, shalt I treasure this day With thy blissful passion thou doth me show; I shalt now and forever love thee this way This love in my heart I shalt always portray I do tremble with longing only for thee Oh my love thy doth taketh my breath away Loving spirits united `neath an oaken tree Both names etched forever, together shalt be A sweet sonnet of love thou art tenderly. ![]() back to list |

Come to me I will mend your broken heart come my love never again will we part. back to list |
Jem FarmerTo stop and think of summer in her eyes the sweet perfection found within a glance a stage of love beneath the moonlit skies where upon stars are lost as hearts romance. I think I see the woman come alive her eyes reflecting beauty back to me, In this, her passion I am dared to thrive for in her arms I''ll be forever free. It is conceit of wanting her desire to sate my hunger fuelled by silver light embracing love within her spirit's fire to feel her passion flare against the night. The flames of love are set to burn and glow Above the night as lovers meet below. ----- Cotton Sheets Her hair reposing on my cheek, she's there, her arm extends across my shoulder blade my eyes refuse to look; this dream may fade and fear the life without her tender care. Each morn I long to pause and briefly stare before the thoughts of life and work invade, and see the girl I love beside me laid then kiss her lips while she is unaware. Entwined in cotton sheets our love is free, beneath her mantle warms my basking heart as in the night I show her liberty in circled kisses with no end or start. When sleepy toes reach out across my feet it's in her arms' embrace I am complete. ----- Crying Soul Behind the smiles of passion, hidden tears descend the cheeks that long for just one kiss. A heart embraced by love should hold no fears, while seeking joy in oblivion's abyss. Recurring dreams as empty words dismiss the hidden love that knows no earthly bounds; a love that strives to breathe in just one kiss, to ease the crying soul with whispered sounds. Yet love is hidden deep in undergrounds where gentle touches dare not speak its name, until the truth within a dream resounds and love no longer weeps the tears of shame. For truth and love are not in black and white but beautiful colours, both dark and light. ![]() ----- Dare to Dream Dare to dream of love, a brave heart can dare feel the music ripple, I need to feel sharing my soul with you in dreams we share sealed in a serenity's kiss, love's seal. Heart pulsating touch the depths of my heart taking thoughts as our senses overtake parting the waves that can ne'er be apart waken love, in those soulful dreams awake. Light and dark, where there is only delight sensual touches reaching the inner sense flight soaring high on wings of pleasure's flight tension builds in whispered words, too intense tears flow, the gentle joy in pleasure's tear fearing nothing as love can know no fear. ----- Dusty Labels You judge the clothes I wear, but I don't care, a narrow mind can't know the inner me, there's more to me than social tags can say. Those dusty labels used to say I dare to live against the way that things should be despite the heartless whispered scorn and spite. I hear the empty words every day I know my soul is strong enough to bear the words that say my heart should not be free. The friends we were are now so far away, I let you think your way is pure and right, I know you have no wish to understand. And now I turn to face my own delight, and feel the love of she who holds my hand. ----- Dusty Labels You judge the clothes I wear, but I don't care, a narrow mind can't know the inner me, there's more to me than social tags can say. Those dusty labels used to say I dare to live against the way that things should be despite the heartless whispered scorn and spite. The friends we were are now so far away, I let you think your way is pure and right, I know you have no wish to understand. And now I turn to face my own delight, and feel the love of she who holds my hand. ----- Feel My Love Every night I write out my heart and pray you hear a poet calling how I long to hold you in my arms; it goes beyond all sense and reason. Love songs on radios, just the start when time is lost to introspection., my desire to quell your hidden fears and bring your sweet heart to love's season. I'd leave my life to the flames of hell, as a sacrifice to dry your tears; I have sworn never to do you wrong to hurt you would be my heart's treason. From this love I can never depart; we're one as eternity appears. ----- Mardi Gras My nerves were tingling when I saw the crowd the parade drew near as excitement flared a Mardi Gras of love that we all shared my first time since I said those words aloud. a biker dyke, finally standing proud the self respect in truth cannot be spared I watched and saw a world that truly cared and would not be hidden behind a shroud. So long ago but I still feel inside the wonder felt on that first special day no longer will my heart remain outside as now I live and love in my own way since that parade day, my first time at Pride I have no doubt to be myself is okay. ----- Old Time Spanish Guitars My love, your eyes can see the distant stars yet can your ears now hear a Welsh voice sing in echoes of old time Spanish guitars to bring my love these last few days of spring. I close my eyes and see your native land, and feel you near; at last my mind withdraws, to where your loving touch can grasp my hand, and for awhile my dreams can stop and pause. In the land where aspirations converge no ocean wave disturbs our nightly tryst as senses reel when lights of love emerge and lips reveal the hunger in her kiss. I’ll gaze on her divinity in my sight and know no star can shine with love’s delight ----- Silence Before In the stillness of discord the waves seek the tender dreams you have long forgotten. In the silence before the storm I speak the tussled words, softer than wild cotton. Those loving endearments that offer trust I tell you all there is you want to know, to touch your dreams there must be more than lust as I watch you slumber in moonlight's glow. If you should call out my name in the night I will caress your thoughts with words of silk and kiss your cheek should you my love invite to taste your flesh as white as buttermilk. For love I hold you by my side, inside, through wind and rain and in the ocean tide. back to list |
Ivor HoggForget-me-nots still grow beside the stream. As they used to do when were both sixteen. When I look back at what might have been. But we were too foolish to pursue that dream. I was selected for a football team. You went to college studied medicine. We followed the advice of our close kin We both accepted other people’s schemes. And though we chose to go our separate ways. We both achieved some measure of success.. I still recall those golden summer days when we were young and knew true happiness. It seems success is just a passing phase. As you grow old it seems to matter less. back to list |
Ryter RoethicalIt begins as a foolish soul staged in blackness And wild crashing, like wilder, relentless waves Smashing onto the shore, lingering in emptiness, Finally caressing its own hard won silent grave. It has a soul so blinded as to forever see him Through eyes so clouded with it’s restless rage And with a mad desire to feel him whispering The soft sounds that seal him in a crystal cage There is still a slipping, crumbling wish to live As freely as cold stone without a shield to own How can he escape the teasing, tempting wind That clutches him and yet still remains all alone. But oh, the temptation to see newborn stars Created by needles and filthy substances in jars. ----- Ecologies Bootprint Once again we must weep for the Earth Weep for the trees that no longer exist Few really appreciate what they are worth Too late will man realise what he has missed. And no way restricting humanities birth. Greedily thinking of the wealth of his fist Not considering that he’s creating a dearth And despite strong objections still persists Removing homes and food for those unlike he: And whilst the Earth rebels in her way In his ignorance he still fails to see That sometime there will come a day When the Earth will remove the debris Then man will not be welcome to stay. ![]() Abandoned Dwellings - Vladimir Kush ----- El Mar y el Sol I know I stared at the sea too long today, I saw the sun consumed by a gentle wave. Leaving patterns in the swells as if to say It’s not creating the misery of watery grave. The sun stood still awhile and even went back Finally committing itself to its nightly fate. And suddenly everything around went black The night had begun and for a while we wait. The sea’s disappeared from the picture frame And she too slumbers in the cooler salty air So begins another night of this endless game Of the sea and suns clandestine affair. The climaxes are o’er and again he must resume, First task to kiss the sea, and remove the gloom ----- Fiamme di Amore When the fire of love is lit the first time It consumes the mind and body, but not the soul, And when fed correctly see it reach a prime Then like all fires, settles under control. Know it’s the heat at the heart that makes it whole There is no need for flames once heat is there And it’s well known what love needs for its coal Trust, compassion, and much tender loving care. Be open and loving, and every day declare Your love, by word and deed, and plant the seed By which your love can grow beyond compare And by these simple rules, you will succeed. Take your lover’s hand and press it to your heart Speak about your love, and say you’ll never part. ----- Fruitless ‘Tis strange, winter is already here and trees are red Yet only now are we seeing the leaves start to fall Else where months ago we’d have seen their dead But somehow here season’s effects seem to crawl. This morning’s frost seems to have left its mark And gradually they fall as if admitting it’s time, As one by one they add to piles on street and park. But those once gorgeous trees need not feel chagrin For in their day they have pleased enough and mine Has pleased all who passed and sampled her fruit And created more than often a feeling sublime, So that oftimes they choose this pleasant tasty route. But now its winter and we all must wait a while ‘Til once more those cherry plums make us smile. ![]() ----- Good Night It is now that special time of night There is no time or need to think at all The muse has me and taken o’er control. The mood is softened by wine and light She reminds me of the past and loves lost And at last a love that makes me whole One I know too well has touched my soul Knowing thus, gladly will I meet the cost. The music is softer now, thinking of you Even more the wine has softened the mood My eyes are ready to close it’s the end of day There is just one final act I have to do Enough of life today I have viewed My last thought “I love you” I have to say ----- I am September The mood is mellow and I am September So little time and still so many things to do I cannot regret one thing I have ever done For it has made me what I am, content for now. There are things I would change but cannot Not as yet, and I will make my move in time But I am September and there is little time left. Winter will come soon enough and I will sleep. I do not fear sleep, for I shall wake in spring But will that spring find me alone once again Where I will wander down roads seeking you In finding you, share our seasons once again? The mood is mellow and I am September So little time to share so many things with you. ----- Illusions I stare deep into the pools of your eyes. Needing compassion I try to clutch your soul. The reflection I found hidden was not mine, Instead it was a lost love from your past. Jealousy tugs heavily at my lonely heart, And makes me realize our paths aren’t the same Holding on to you is like owning a rainbow. It is only an illusion that can never be mine. I have seen the light illuminate your face, When the thought of him crossed your mind. I can only wish that you felt the same for me. I know that I’m only playing make-believe. The sun shines bright yet I sit alone in darkness And muffled screams echo through my heart. ----- Language of the Soul I love to speak the language of your soul, It’s not written in words but looks and deeds. Those looks and acts fulfil all our earthly needs And doing so each look and deed makes us whole. To be in love you do not need to hear Love’s a language that’s based on how you feel. Word’s defy the truth and can deny what is real, Yet words are needed to remove all that you fear. The language of the soul exists around the world It knows not race or creed or what you are And knows each pair that loves attains a star That watches caring as their lives become unfurled. At time’s end two sharing souls call their star down And thankfully, fix it carefully to their gown. ![]() Kisses - Josephine Wall ----- The Mists of Time Somewhere in the mists of time I met you We shared wine and bread together you and I And the songs sang will echo through eternity And now each life I wait until our rendezvous. Each blessed meeting this life the days are few Sharing wine and bread and song, being happy Confident of a love that is more than certainty But planned by fate, getting stronger as it grew Once again somewhere in time we shall meet We will break bread, and from the wineglass sup And sing our songs and speak our love in rhyme. We will move in time and feet will tap the beat And life's wine shared, more tasty with each cup Knowing we will meet again somewhere in time. ![]() Moonwatch - Vladimir Kush ----- New Rivers I was looking at my faded dreams from yesterday Brushing through my mind, they had painted my sky Like a full flowing river that flooded my way. A flow so strong, I couldn't hold them flowing by They keep rolling by along this river of thought. In mirrors of water I saw myself crying, Frustrated by dreams, and loves, all come to nought Some dreams still fresh but still lying, dying. Better it were rivers of tears, caused by failure Than floods of apathy, or droughts by lack of interest. There is no excuse, like the need for a breather Most minds work best especially when stressed. Those dreams and ideas will still flow past each day, Grab one, or better two, without delay. ----- Presence in my mind (Presenza nella mia mente) You have become a presence in my mind. I do not like it, for no longer is my mind free Instead, my waking time is taken up with thee My thoughts once controlled and simple kind Now wander off in space, to leave me blind And think of things that I would like to be Of the future, of love and of you and me And the way our souls around each other wind. In my minds eye I can see you everywhere Each waking moment you steal my time In thoughts so different to what was there Now it is so natural to think that I’m Thinking about someone for who I care Someone to me who’s made my life sublime. ----- Rainy Nights It is the night, and once again all is black. The rain of the day no longer polishes the scene Most life’s asleep waiting for the day to come back The rain of yesterday has now left all things clean. There is a scent that is particular to a rainy night Yet how can rain smell this way, so it can claim A scent that like the best, all senses it excites And in doing so, so easily win world wide acclaim. The sound of rain takes on a different quality Making sleep and dreams a blessing to us all. If only rain could somehow help create unity We could then count our blessings with each fall. In itself the night is a blessing from the day. With rain we can only wish them together stay. ----- Sonnet For Sasha Although you’re small and almost newly born, I can see the magic beginning in your eyes Too quickly we will see how you have grown And hear hearts breaking and admirer’s sighs. We’re here to help start your journey in life And have but a short time to spend with you During that time we’ll protect you from strife And try to make sure your path of life is true. We must remember you’re a gift on loan to us A short time with us, then follow your dreams Too soon we’ll realise how you have grown And wishing to plan and follow your schemes. We do realize one day from the nest you’ll fly But know this Sasha, we’ll always be nearby. ----- Spiegal in Spiegal What greater pleasure in life can there be Than just sitting watching the setting sun. The mirror of the birth we saw earlier When hours before we watched the day begin. It is not birth, or death, or what, just life. A cycle of life, in which we became a part When we watched him appear again today And stopped for a while and welcomed him. Perhaps we slept whilst he had gone elsewhere There is no doubt, and yet how things have changed. When we first met, we waited for the moon, And whiled away our days waiting the night, And in her light we made our vows and more, And now we sleep content awaiting the sun? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QtFPdBUl7XQ ----- Twilight Twilight glimmers with unclaimed hopes and dreams It is the dawn of night promising things to come What love of day is not bettered by the moons beams And reluctant newfound love promises to be won? Often loves words are smothered by the light and sun Yet freely given and warmly received at night. Shyness is a curse, and words at night are easier done So speak, your heart will guide your tongue what’s right. There you’ll find your words will with love ignite And come the dawn side by side you will lay Your words of love no longer fearful of the light And smile together still as united you greet the day. Welcome the Sun, and be not afraid to watch it go Be thankful knowing somewhere a love will grow. ![]() Soul Plexus - Vladimir Kush ----- Water Over Pebbles Our love is easy like water over pebbles The sound of love is like music to my ears One word of love from you removes my cares And yet your touch, so easy causes trembles. That feeling does not cause anything that rebels, Rather builds warm glowing feelings that years Expand and store and much later happy tears Result from remembering what each story tells. The water flows over the pebbles slower now, But still it flows and my feelings are no less The music, “adagio moderato” not “presto allegro” But nonetheless be assured my love still flows And that in spite of time it is no less Indeed with each passing day you can see it grow. ![]() ----- Why did you Why did you pick this time and place Where did we meet so many lives ago. In this time we live so many miles apart And yet in many ways we are so close So many times past, I have kissed your face But yet each time I have to let you go. It was not my wish, it was not my deed. That life should treat us in this way It was simply time, it was natures need That leaves us in pain and in dismay. Each time we live our love we feed Cognisant that together we cannot stay Yet I know each life our love's sublime And know that soul mates must conquer time ![]() ----- Xanadu How can love be too much, when ‘tis complete? How can being complete ever be too much? A jigsaw has its shaped pieces, thou cannot cheat Each one in its allotted space, just like such. Would that I were perfect but in my conceit I lose that essential piece, making me a mortal. I wouldst try and love more, I will not be beat And in winning thee, will attain heavens portal. This is not conceit trying to win thy affection If so Nirvana would ever be out of bounds. I say winning thy love would be perfection And far much more heavenly than it sounds. I will take thee to a place oft known as Xanadu And there will abide when life on Earth is through. ----- Yearn No More Should that I be thy beacon in the night Wouldst thou come to me and nestle by my fire. Wouldst that thee follow my shining light In doing so make the flames of love grow higher. Help me shake away the harsh coldness of now We will then ignore the chill and falling leaves As in our hearts we watch eternal summer grow And gain the blessings that soul love receives. I’ll gently cradle thee from thy world’s chill wind And promise thy soul no life evermore alone With warmth of which our souls evermore shined Fate may take its turn; we need not fear the unknown. Come my love let me be thy beacon in the night Yearn no more my love walk towards the light. ![]() Amor de Marinero - Vladimir Kush ----- Yes I know Art thou the rigour that doth affect my heart? If so there is no cure and no pill can ease There is no form of treatment that I may start Penicillin and its like cannot bring me peace. My heart hears thee and gives an extra squeeze And then a pause could it be a missing beat? Yet I know nothing that is not meant to please Whatever, I know thou menst nothing but a treat. Looking at thee this way makes life complete Yet strange, I prefer thee in a less bright light. That light at dusk or dawn can ne’r be beat For at that time love needs nought that’s bright Bring on the dusk, or later bring on the dawn Bring on as you may my love is not withdrawn back to list |
Nia WynneYou've become the scoria of my life Layered in the past by frequent hot blasts That have insculpted many a sharp knife Now in my tortured beaten down mast I can sail, no more, the seas of loves eyes That can only now lament the days lost, Vigorous youth spent in wastelands of lies And hardened secrets kept as a way to last. Our storms must here decant how we must go To another path lacking lachrymose Nights that shape sorrows into a blood show And bed-mates into monstrous beasts that blow. Melancholy heartaches erupt anew, Each dawning sun the next blues review. ![]() ----- Inner Landscape Strawberry memories cause me to pause At the foggy windows of nostalgia, At once the morning breath mists cause An inner landscape filling with algia. Yes, the rain may wash the pliant casing Of a life full of illusories in mind, Though which ones make storms seem like quiet wings Mysterious blacktop appertaining. The silence of dreams, the crawling of ants, Those things worlds apart and harbors beyond ports, Ephemeral beings alike, that haunts Prolific patterns down the glass of courts. Holding sumptuous feasts for the romance Of lacey shadows yielding lovers dance. ----- Loves Relic Rain is the tapestry I wear today On shoulders heavy from the fall out blues Where sun puts on his cloudy cloak of gray, For there's no way to stop sable tears muse. The thorns in their rose beds bleed my skin But are washed away in spite of pain, Though no amount of effulgence takes sin Out of past lusts, nor lifts the sullen rain. Rain is the art of morning strung on webs Emerging from the piceous black night. Arabesque tunes playing heart songs in red, Relit as the sun lifts from lost sight. Rain evaporates only when morn's flown On relic wings to where forgiveness is grown. ![]() ----- Memory Play In moments of inertia there is some place To wander again along a known course Whose nebulose memories feel like lace Tracing lifetime actions by its perforce. Bales of time have strewn remnants of recall Across the spaces in between lines of trees Growing new memories that then enthrall Like horses racing from willow to lea. The deciduous thoughts carry me along A forested path of umbra and light To where they dissipate in black song Only the raven shares with long dark night. To be free is also to be caught in thought Remembering how to think as I ought. ![]() ----- No Good Night It is now the dread hour of composing There's always a monster here in the dark His rules about love ever imposing A ruthless mood predators have marked. The way of the brutish mind opposing Every word a means to draw blood red sparks Not the sweet of wine and romance dancing But eyes for impaling the heart and darts Carried on the hip just for the throwing At the board behind my head, for the lark Of the game for devouring, and my wings Despoiling, the art of love in the park. Once there was a time that I could dream things Like how to say "I Love you" every spring. ![]() ----- Spirits Walk In this woebegone life they fell Through an incantation or hex Spun the wheel and lost to hell Where souls succumb like candle wax, Melted down as a subject of The reticent spirits below, For angels fear the soulless loves Described wandering in ode And ballads of phantoms free roams, Drawn asunder from haunted roots Doomed to walk above deeper loam, Beings whose hearts beat the hoots Of owls calling mates from the trees Wailing for the ones they can't see. ![]() back to list |
