#15 Balasi Stanza

It is believed that this stanza form was used by the Hungarian poet Balint Balassi, who rationalised it from a three line form consisting of 19 syllables per line, and broke it up by the use of internal rhymes, and evolved into a rhyme scheme as follows:
x. x. x. x. x. a.
x. x. x. x. x. a.
x. x. x. x. x. x. d
x. x. x. x. x. b
x. x. x. x. x. b
x. x. x. x. x. x. d
x. x. x. x. x. c
x. x. x. x. x. c
x. x. x. x. x. x. d

Cello in the Wind

The winds mellow voice plays.
Deeper cello sound stays
Moving through the branches making
Notes more mature and soft
Through the branches they waft
And leaves in turn start shaking
Then nature adds her mood
When other sounds intrude
We hear the new day breaking.

Blast from the Past

Hullo friend, you out there,
What a surprise to hear
About you in cyber space.
I hope that you are well,
There is so much to tell.
It is good to see your face.
I pray there's still a song
In your heart, going strong
As it still is in my case.

Technology is great
But even moreso fate
And who knows what hand she'll play;
Give us the chance to meet
Again - that would be 'neat',
There would be so much to say.
Though if that's not to be
Then I'm still glad that we
Are in touch again today.

We walked some happy miles,
And we shared tears and smiles,
It seems a long time ago.
We were so very young
With songs still to be sung
There was no way we could know
That we were simply knaves
In a chess game, small waves
In Life's constant ebb and flow.

So old friend of my youth
You shocked me, that's the truth,
How quickly time has flown by;
I cherished that red rose
That you gave me all those
Years ago... it made me sigh:
But that is in the past
And our die long cast
But the mem'ries linger nigh.

El Shadai

You're my strength El Shadai
I lift Your Name on high
I know I can count on You.
You listen when I pray
You let me have my say,
Then You show me what to do.
I don't always agree,
Might object strenuously
But who am I to argue?

You must know El Shadai
No matter what that I
Shall forever sing Your praise;
For when times have been bad
I know that I have had
You leading me out the maze.
The salvation You wrought
And the blessing You've brought
Me will last all of my days.

-----

Stargazer

Goodnight my radiant light
How I wish that you might
Show your glory to all men;
To those who cannot see,
And those who choose to be
Blind to your brilliance when
If they would lift their eyes
They would see in your skies
Beauty far beyond their ken.

Shooting star you must know
However far you go
That I will never forget
How you inspired me,
And helped to set me free
I'm forever in your debt.
I'm in a peaceful place,
In life's ongoing race,
No more need to fuss or fret.

Survival

Sometimes hurt can become
Our master, make us numb
Until we merely exist;
But we have to fight,
Keep focused on the light
At the tunnel's end; resist
The urge to stay depressed,
We're alive, we are blessed,
Perhaps even being missed.

Nobody has a clue
Not them, not me, not you,
What the future holds in store;
Life is no easy game,
Oft wounds us, leaves us lame,
But still we have to play; for
Despite hardship and pain,
We join the fray again,
That is simply Nature's Law,

But look around and see
Friends everywhere who'll be
Ready with a helping hand,
Or a willing shoulder,
To help move the boulder
That has us weighted down; and
We may soon realise
To our great surprise
That life once again is grand.

To Speak

"He who does not understand your silence
will probably not understand your words."
Elbert Hubbard

I ponder on those words…
A message for the birds?
Not so, they make good sense.
When I choose not to speak
If my silence is Greek
To you, leaves you in suspense,
Then you will never hear
Me, even when I'm clear,
So why bother to commence?

Silence is golden, yes,
But sometimes I confess
I prefer to spit it out;
Say what I have to say
Give you your chance and pray
That neither will need to shout.
Sometimes things left unsaid
Can fester, fill our head
Leaving us with serious doubt.

There must be a mix
One that eas'ly predicts
When you ought to hold your tongue,
Or say what’s on your mind.
Leaving no thought behind,
And not one word left unsung.
Until then we wait
Too often in a state
Of flux… with nerves highly strung.

Cosmic Fantasy

In the depth of a dream
Fantasies reign supreme
Pathways within realms in space;
Stepping stones to the stars
Betwixt Earth moon and mars,
Where figments of dreams interlace;
Shooting stars show the way
Thro` a magic mystical spray
To the land where angels grace.

Earth spirits arise to find
A haven of another kind
Thro` mists of cosmic showers;
Creations of peace within
For a new life to begin
Sunsets amidst the bowers;
Amidst celestial rainbows
While Kaleidoscopic shows
Shades of unearthly flowers.

-----

Dawn Above Clouds

The beauty of the Dawn
On a perfect clear morn
As it rises above earths clouds;
Like ripples in the sea
Clouds appear to me
As soft as cotton shroud;
To fly beyond blue skys
This magical moment high
Of this Earth my heart is proud.

To fly high in the skies
Shows morning in disguise
While the dreams of poets flow;
Upon a red canvas dawn
Artisitic words are drawn
From the beauty it doth show;
To captivate the mind
Years past we were once blind
If we never flew, who would know.

Depth Of Love

The beauty of the Dawn

Like ripples in the sea
Clouds appear to me
As soft as cotton shroud;
To fly beyond blue skys
This magical moment high
Of this Earth my heart is proud.

While the dreams of poets flow;

Artisitic words are drawn
From the beauty it doth show;

Imaginary Friend

I think I saw a fairy
Amidst yon meadow clary
She turn`d to me and smiled;
But she never spoke a word
It may have been absurd
I guess she was something wild;
But still recall this day
I think I saw a fae
But then, I was only a child.

Josephine Wall: I Think I Saw A Fairy

Just Kids

Do not let them see you
They are listening too
Hide and whisper if you dare;
They do not miss a trick
On uptake they are quick
For images they mimic and share;
Like father is like sons,
They are not the only ones,
It`s a whole new World out there.

You may think they are quiet
It`s then they cause a riot
When you think they are saints;
Sweet angels they may be
But how they learn you see
They are really rather quaint;
The culprit may be you
Like parents they will do
When they dabble in the paint.

-----

Old Rocking Chair

I saw my Grand Ma there
On her old rocking chair
Even when I knew she had gone;
Last words were she`d return
To rise above from her urn
Buried `neath the garden lawn;
Her promises she keeps
It was just like she sleeps.
Restful for all she`d undergone.

It was her time to rise
A spirit that never dies
Rocking in her rocking chair;
The tales she used to tell
Weaved within her spell
Restless returns again to share;
A sceptre of the night
That never meant to fright
Sitting in her rocking chair.

-----

The Vigil

There by his bed all night
With him on his last fight
Saddened and empty inside;
Could he live another day
All she could do was pray
Can the Lord turn back the tide;
To save him from this pain
And render him whole again
Pray please help him she cried.

Once she had been his bride
love that they could not hide
Memories flowed thro` her mind;
The perfect love they had
Their life was not so bad
An understanding they did find;
How can it come to this
Gone is their life of bliss
When this grief was so unkind.

Ye Chymnie Sweepe

Black bee thee chymnie place
Bein`a bloomen disgrace
Dayes off olde a chymnee boy;
Didd clymbe upp insyde
For thee chymnie, bein wyde
Sweepen ne`er bee fun nor joye;
`Twas earn`d forr hys shillen
Allus show`d hym willen
Slaven howers in hys ploy.

It did showe onn hys face
`Twas a harde lyfe to pace
Older than hys younger yeres;
When life do pass hee bye
Wythe tear drops inn hys eyes
Flowen from hys inner feares;
Hee ne`er doe see thee lite
Nor doe thee sun appear
Maybe one daye hee wont be here.

Lunch Hour Dreams

They sipped their cup of tea
As if they were all free
From years of true devotion
Relaxing, just being
Able to sit breathing
Exploring their emotions
And then the whistle blew
One hour surely flew
Respite from works commotion

Reason A Poteet

A Whole 'Nother World

In other worlds out there
kids hide and say a prayer.
Dad's only care is his booze.
This child gets up alone,
her hunger to postpone;
Mom needs the mornings to snooze.
She must go to the bus
without making a fuss;
there's no sense gettin' a bruise.

In other worlds out there
kids scowl and say a prayer.
"Everybody's got a Rebelle!"
This child grumbles in bed
taking short breaks instead
from rising to throw her spell.
She picks at the menu
no matter the venue.
School is where she catches hell.

In other worlds out there
kids toil and say a prayer.
Their sponsors relish hard work.
This child shifts to wheelchair
from his bed to prepare
for days with many-a-jerk.
After being spoon-fed,
a helmet on his head,
it's school where new trials lurk.

In other worlds out there
kids smile and say a prayer.
Dad helps with homework and play.
This child wakes to voices
mom cooks his best choices,
pancakes for breakfast, hooray!
He goes to school filled up,
He comes home to a pup
who brightens his sunny day.

Ryter Roethical

Autumn in Cape Cod

Joined by the watchful sky
The night draws slowly nigh
Focussing on lessons taught
Present chatter silenced.
Night wind through trees advanced
And with it cold winds are brought.
Birds grow silent in their nests
Snuggle together breast to breast
As warmth becomes needy sought.

Clouds come, and with them rain
Trees sounding like aflame
But feel instead piercing cold
That drags life out the soul
Each drop extracts a toll
Creating victims for the mould.
Night settles peacefully
And clouds move westerly
As nature again takes hold.

-----

Impatience

So far from anything
Just sitting here waiting
And like a dream you appear
Perhaps you are a dream
More real than it would seem
Our time together draws near
Patience tells me to wait
By the incomers gate
Then happily you'll be near.

-----

Juno

The woman from the stars
Talks with the man from mars.
The jealous sun hides his face,
Knowing he can't have her
But he can't help but care.
But she is from outer space
How can she love the sun?
His life has just begun,
Eternity has no place.

-----

Memories

When memories come awake
What impact do they make?
Do you think of us at all
Or feel a pain like me
Longing for what could be
Or with time it's grown so small?
I can't believe you'd forget
Waking with no regret,
I'm too proud and will not crawl.

Do you remember nights
And watching setting sights
Seeing stars light up a while
Then hide behind the hill
So everything was still
You would look at me and smile
All was well, love was fine
That look said you were mine
Making our journey worthwhile.

-----

Oh Please

Excuse trembling fingers
In their search their lingers
Their quest is to know you well
To trace each unknown way
Or with pleasure to stay
Their quest is to please you well
And in time light a fire
There heaven to aspire
Satisfied to please you well

One night will not suffice
One lifetime, could entice
But now dreams say more please
We know each other now
And what life will allow
If only fate will not tease
Eternity our ground
When there is no more found
For a while we'll be at ease.

-----

Time's Dilema

Now day returns again
Love isn't down the drain
Instead carries on anew.
Time together flies by
Too soon the day will die
Then wrapped in love "Adieu".
With the dawn love goes on
An endless union drawn
Until time itself is through.

But does time ever end,
Like night and day descend,
Or just merely change its state?
A greater night and day
Perhaps this is the way,
And really only abates!
Endless is what it means
A variety of scenes
Each one with love at the gate.

-----

Tutti a Merda

What is left that we care
When only stars are there
The world is gone, all we love
Vanished into blackness
A hole, no scene, no mess
There is nothing to speak of
Then the hole is filled
Now's the time to rebuild
One huge bang from up above.

Six days is all it takes
To create the mistakes
That led us back here again
Starting with slates anew
Will we take another view
Or still greedy, proud and vain
Then the Gods cry "Enough!
We're tired of this stuff",
And then flush us down the drain.

-----

'xtempore 4

Impatient words spoken
Too quick as a token
Of any rational thought.
If love is what's to speak
Best judge, it may be weak
And that love too easily bought.
A quick word is just that
Not making eyelids bat
And duels to the death be fought.

Other words when spoken
Mean not, heads be broken
They're just words spoken in fire.
The young may act on it
With age sometimes comes wit
Realising words aren't worth ire.
With greater wisdom found
We never hang around
Aches and pains we don't require.

Brumbies in the Rain

Out of the mists you came
Somewhere in time, no name,
But the wind from some place
Where gallah's cry to say
Here we are, come what may,
From which we try to race
Away from harm and pain
To brighter days and gain
The right to live with grace.

-----

Darkest Balassi

Where my corpse did once lay
Now shadows come to play
And upon this souls dark
Spirits raise a new force,
To conquer deaths source
They need another mark
That ensures undead made
Will ever come to wade
Through ghostly sea, life's spark.

Now my undead body
Looks just as badly bloody,
I take new steps here
On uncertain black earth,
Forgotten by the hearse
Life now holds no fears.
For the devil may spawn
When deaths door holds the pawn
With damnation and tears.
