#11 Italian Sestet

The original version of the Italian Sestet had no set meter, but after it was introduced into England by Spenser, eventualy the poets there began to use iambic tetrameter or pentameter. The rhyme pattern example is as follows (Using iambic tetrameter)

x x x x x x x a
x x x x x x x b
x x x x x x x c
x x x x x x x a
x x x x x x x b
x x x x x x x c

In the example below Ryter stays with the original Italian form

Final Act
The music is softer now, thinking of you
Even more the wine has softened the mood
My eyes are ready to close it's the end of day
There is just one final act I have to do
Enough of life today I have viewed
My last thought "I love you" I have to say.

Arabian Dreams

Come my Prince and lie with me
Upon the deserts sun baked sand,
Arabian delights of desert songs
Releases loves deep emotions free
To exotic tones in a desired land
Where loves sweet passion belongs.

The language of dark misted eyes
Is more than is needed to know,
For eyes are windows of the soul
Mirrors soft words which tantalise,
For affectionate feelings shall flow
As Arabian dreams become whole.

Dream Catcher

To catch a dream and hold it tight
You cherish it dear from the start
Time spent together so long ago
Was a time when love felt so right
Spiritual love shalt never depart
When love in our hearts doth flow.

To catch a dream we both shall share
Where good dreams pass on through
Eternal love shalt ne-er be denied
Sensual feelings are always there
Dreams shared forever come true
Where good dreams shalt be relied.

-----

The Final Act

I shall always recall the days gone by
When my Mother had spoke softly to me
I remember the words she had spoken
As she lay down on her sick bed to die
life I had gifted from above dont you see
Do not weep for my heart is not broken.

Oh my mother so dear I remain proud
Your achievment in life was renowned
A final performance an act you adored
Within an angels applaud in the clouds
The orchestral music`s now a silent sound
Locked in my heart and forever restored.

A Haunted Vision

Cold winds blew on the dreary moor
This night was as bleak as could be
While a convents bells were ringing.
Srange was the night and unsecure
Ancient visions then wandered free
Thro` a lychgate`s violent swinging.

A vision stood in a long white shroud
Where she rose from a tomb of stone,
In the midst of this night full of grace
A faded figure once alive and proud
Turns her head to a world unknown
But visions who haunt hath no face .

-----

Out Of The Blue

From a clear blue sky on a summers day
Lurked dark shadows towards the ground
When thunder rolled and lightning flashed;
Violent storm clouds then billowed this way
Out of the blue was once calm without sound
Until heaven rumbled to earth and crashed.

Sudden mood swings of a summer storm
When humidity hits cooling combination
Clearing the atmosphere with fresher air;
When battleship thundery clouds do form
Coupled with static powers inflamation
Forecasting tomorrow as cool and fair.

-----

Spirit of the Night

Oh spirit of the night flashing thro`my head
What ails thee to torment me with delight
Why doth thou chose me to lure and entice
Gifts of dreams and visions in my bed
That haunts me so deeply unto thee night
Tempting with thy whispers of love concise.

When I long to slumber but dream of thee,
Eyes closed but I feel you there beside
Enticing me with dreams of eternal love
For everlasting spirits shall both soar free,
Releasing feelings buried deep inside
As lovers embrace the heavens thereof.

Umbrella Dilemma

Somewhere in the City a gusty wind blew
Torrents of rain bursting from heavy clouds
Souvenirs lost on a vacation of dreams,
As the sun had disappeared from viewe
Huddled together in umbrella shrowds
Feeling then so secure with high esteem.

Crowds now had gathered funny tho` it was
Had laughed aloud on a sidewalk in the rain
A big black umbrella had blown inside out
Saving natures water, was hardly the cause
A woman would know if it happened again
But this gentleman was fun have no doubt.

Turn towards the wind his audience had said
But little did they know this wind would change
And the umbrella then spun itself around
And crashed against a lamp post instead,
At end of it`s tether looking dissaranged
Lay his black umbrella there on the ground.

-----

White Peacock

So proudly strutts this fowl of the East,
An Indian treasure of beauty and grace
Displays white feathers exotic and fine
A magnificent creature for eyes to feast
This fan of white plumes of filigree lace.
Shall attract his mate now to intertwine.

A show of affection he proudly performs
Shaking his plumes in a frenzied dance
To impress with vigour his chosen mate
Then his natural instinctives transforms
He moves with intention a furtive advance
Hence raising the albinos fertility rate.

Lead the Way

At the end of the day when its twilight
I can see your shadow on the pathway
Where you wait for me as you've done before
But this time the clouds prevent sunsets light
You reach for my hand and show me the way
To our home where love is ever more

This Thing

This thing began within those beautiful dreams
when seeds of thought are planted in the mind
within subconsciousness desires came to play.
To love and to be loved, too often seems,
the status quo we want but cannot find
when all we need to hear, sweet words each day.

Those words that made our lives a better place
when standing side by side beneath the sky
three simple words, should we ever forget
To see the smile upon a loved one's face
reflect the sparkle in a loving eye
the heart's succour when darkest times so threat.

Who told that joy is found in passion's kiss,
before we lovers could just catch the air
amid the rapid beating of the heart.
For love can see delight within our tryst
when under starlight we took time to care;
in that moment our love became an art.

Market Day

The market place is thronged with folk.
All haggling good naturedly,
About the prices they will pay.
They are prepared to laugh and joke.
Nobody takes it seriously.
Another busy market day.

Oriental Memories

Fluttering like butterflies Geisha girls.
Trying to attract the rich men’s eyes.
Professional and well trained courtesans.
Beaming smiles reveal teeth that shine like black pearls.
Which to western eyes comes as a surprise
Most will not appreciate but I can.

Tabula Rasa

A stark, white page is a frightening thing
To a poet with tales too true to tell;
But aren't we all disposed to discover
The difference between a clown and a king,
An empty barrel from a silver bell,
Or the odds of friends becoming lovers?

A vacant stage is a harrowing place
When the lights all dim for soliloquy;
And all you can stammer to state your cause
Of last resort, is the tenuous grace
Of invention's mother, necessity;
But her script is written on thinnest gauze.

So it's off you go adlibbing the lines;
And choosing most among myriad themes,
The easier terrains and gentler grades;
The soft metered feet, the simplest rhymes
Served only to soothe susceptible dreams
Instead of the truth; of which you're afraid.

At dawn each day comes a promising gift;
Despite your mood for the wrapping it's in,
It contains no map, but a stark, white page
With a logo seen as the dark clouds lift;
A stage adorned as a path that begins
Where a signpost stands that reads: Have Courage!

In The Quest To Understand

How long did we play in the clouds;
collecting stars to flint heart's fires
and moondust to seed eternity?
How long did we shun earthly crowds;
propagating naked desires,
unashamed, in anonymity?

When did fate turn on its axis,
bringing storm to cleave our passions
and rend the clouds that protected us?
Whose green eyes cursed our happiness?
What god would wreak devastation
on souls joined by love's umbilicus?

Our pains deserving of truthful answers.
Can we climb the sky again, to find them?

Tomorrow's Face, Today

Last night's rains bequeathed deep puddles
to city streets and parking lots,
tightly crowded with cars and self-absorbed shoppers.
In the midst of close-eyed muddles,
two boys on bikes, feigned as despots,
wreaked their rule, by skewing the eyes of car mirrors.

When they had bored of this foul sport,
they seized an empty shopping cart;
treating her, unasked, to a tango's maneuvers.
But glory's dance was broken short.
The cart flung in the deepest part
of puddle. Warning: Beware all future lovers.

Amor ti vieta

Love forbids you not to love.
That gentle hand that repulses me
sought the pressure of my hand;
your eye says: “I love you”,
though your lips are saying: “I won’t!”

-----

Believe in Dragons

Believe in dragons, that they may live again.
Lording over land and sea, the gentle beast
The time is ripe that we may live in fantasy
Cannot fantasy and life be both the same?
Knightly lore was blackest deed and evil feast
Cannot we believe and see what we will see?

For dragons lore was part of what used to be.
But blackest deeds and wicked tricks overthrow
Magic helped the reigned lord to gain his power.
Hear amid our deepest dreams the creatures plea.
Whilst secretly they hide and secretly they grow
Now they emerge welcomed from their bower.

-----

City of Angels

I tried to listen to the earth today
and all I heard was the scream of jets.
The Earth breathes and lives and cares,
but nothing works here there is no way.
Black car fumes, dust and cigarettes
breathe, and live in this filth, who dares?

Rain will not wash away this kind of filth,
those in control are deaf, and set in mind.
The boom of the earth they have not heard,
nor do they care about their peoples health.
They silence those who care and are kind
for they have never known or cared?

Fedora; Umberto Giordano.

Love forbids you not to love;
Having known you, how could I not,
To be with you is all I’ll ever crave.
I did not need any gentle shove,
Nor a victim of a match makers plot
I have become your humble slave.

That gentle hand that repulses me;
Does it intend that I should go away
It confuses me I don’t understand.
Why does it grip not set me free
Instead of holding so that I stay
You know I’m yours to command.

You sought the pressure of my hand;
And I feel the wanting of your touch.
Body language gives this different view.
Yet you say solitude is where you stand
Is it only at dreams that I can clutch
Creating this great desire for you.

Your eyes say: “I love you”,
I cannot believe that you don’t
Yet I hear you say: “please, go away”.
I’m confused, what should I do?
Your lips still say to me: “I won’t!”
But everything else says: “stay!”.

Though your lips are saying: “I won’t”
Everything else tells me that you want me
Should I call your bluff and leave right now?
Would I hear you call out: “please don’t,
Please stay here where you need to be”,
And kiss me, and make that final vow.

Faith or Wraith

Countenance haunted by dreams unfulfilled,
The hollowed eyes of veiled doubt and pain,
Often caused by hesitation when should move
The body grown thin, muscles cannot rebuild.
All the symptoms of a soul torn in twain,
Are the symptoms of a man needing a shove.

All once lively essence has been killed
Useless and has been flushed down the drain.
A worthless life with no attempt to seek.
Everything else in life remains unfulfilled.
The wraith only remains alive on this plain
A soul unfulfilled by a body that was week.

Why must we be yoked to such sorrow,
Offered again would we make the same choice
Or like the rest, just hide and wait in the shade?
What better values are offered tomorrow,
Morals and ethics, should be a loud voice,
And ideals so priceless they could never fade?

Kidding as Usual

Winter is still all around, yet there are sounds,
Sounds that winter is not able to free,
Nor should it judging by frost in early morn.
Forecasts tell us he’s still doing morning rounds
But during the day we look around and see
Spring buds; is it too soon for them to be born?

How often do these signs betray the facts
Late winter oft show signs of what’s to be.
Believing that early spring is about to show
And then see birds carry out spring like acts,
With parrots screaming out look, look at me
Noisy showy buggers always making a row.

Some trees too used to winters changing moods
Prefer to wait, after all they get chance to rest.
And whilst the imports flash their buds and hues
You see the experienced local tree standing nude.
Yet in six weeks will compete as a colourful best
Jacarandas will provide really scenic views.

Welcome Spring

I heard a sound today in the trees outside
The magpies heard and the plovers joined in,
As they celebrated the last shower of rain.
God had breathed out, the wind smiled and cried
Green shoots emerged, and new life began.
Spring has returned, and she loves us again.

I heard a sound today in the trees outside
And that of children playing on the park close by,
Because winters confinement is now unchained.
Today the future smiled whilst winter cried
And then again we saw a clear blue sky.
Spring has returned, and she loves us again.

Whispering Spirits

When you waken, listen to the silence
Loving words were said as you slept.
Perhaps your lover’s spirit said something
Which you hear with a different sense.
Your spirit heard as its vigil kept
Replying with something equally loving.

You both may sleep, but never your souls
They constantly whisper to each other.
Even when apart they still converse
Because even when apart they are a whole.
There is no distance that can deter
Timing and placement they both traverse.

Zet Machis, (Nothing)

I tried to capture a feeling today,
It fluttered away on butterfly wings.
Tantalising, but something I learned
Never disturb these things of beauty.
On a nearby flower watch as it clings,
Its freedom’s deserved and truly earned.

I tried to capture someone’s soul today,
She evaded my words, loudly laughing.
But looked back as if checking me out
Then she hid not willing to hurt me this way.
I thought someone else had made her sing,
Is she all alone and wishing to be without?

I tried to catch my wild thoughts today
And to corral this herd of emotions.
Exhausted, I rested and watched them stray,
Wandering off on hair brained notions.
Slowly they returned their own sweet way,
Once again putting my pen in motion.
