Celtic Poetry

Although it is realised that the norm is to post a poet and the poem in block by poets. In the case in this site the poetry form will take alphabetical precedence and then alphabetically by poem. If the poet is not named, then it can be assumed that the poet responsible will be Jem Farmer.
The two cultures will also be divided alphabetically. The main site for information will always be The Poets Garret.

Pigments of arts' reflection,
traced shadows of pencil,
where light changes direction,
defining an artist's stencil.

A stillness in perspective,
sheathed beneath a white valance,
until eyes are subjective
and see visual balance.

From the scented turpentine
a brief glance at the river,
curving in a serpentine,
as brushes, idly quiver.

When thoughts are oft idyllic
and life is just a figment beyond worlds of acrylic, time is merely a pigment.

Making Up

Dreaming is lost in forest clearing,
when night fades to morning,
in cream filled pools of blackened feeling,
reveal thoughts of dreaming.

Battle emotion still I'm losing,
the heart's blues are shrilling,
the rats of a diseased mind gnawing
withdrawn from the battle.

Confused beyond reason I am dying,
no goodbye in running,
mute swan has no voice in loving
all my life lies confused.

Elfin Magic

The elfin smile, my heart's delight.
my dreams fulfill
while desire for love is willing,
shrill song instill.

Oh lady take my heart enjoy
and so inside
my love needs your tender guiding,
side me reside.

With you I cannot lose again,
we are akin,
with your kiss my mind is spinning;
I win Elfin

Changes

In flow of seasons, bare to bloom,
I witness trees change from my room;
on rough and bony wood appear small buds,
through mud green fingers peer.

As April's sun embraces all,
forgotten is last year's cold fall.
Winter fades, to just a shadow on stage,
blood's rage is rampant, grows.

In search for mates, both man and beast exceed-
feeding's sweet at love's feast.
New life appears in nests and soil
as changing seasons now uncoil.

Among thick-leafed green crowns, birds sing
spring songs in park and town.
With fevered pace warm summer ends;
in autumn's stillness life transcends.

Elf of the Wand

The wizard with the ring of fire,
a ring of power they call Narya,
Gandalf's warm of spirit charms, so say I,
no pride as we take arms.

Amid the Hobbit thereupon
he was sure to defeat Sauron
'The Wisest' claimed Elf Cirdan, so say I,
with pride to ye my clan.

Elf of the Wand, Gandalf the Grey,
the last of Istari, it's they
the Quenya who command, and so say I,
he'll die at their demand.

Woe not friend! For Gandalf the White,
will stand beside our clan to fight
the evil hordes these dark days, so say I,
war's cry to victors' ways.

Soul Mates

In old renditions of love's lament,
where spirits of time came and went,
the past and future sealed by hand-fast rite
each night their souls our shield..

Beyond the winter's veil they came,
one and all before the athame,
the Celtic path cast the fate of our love,
above the skies we wait.

So many lifetimes have come to pass,
bringing us closer to the last,
for all time we are destined to be one,
none can part me and you.

Soul-mates before the Earth was born,
through the ages of rose and thorn,
until the end of days when stars forget
and yet we love again.

Hands Across the Sky

My heart whispers love to the breeze,
and pray it's carried over the seas
to one I adore,
soulful dreams implore,
to once more feel love's ease.

A kiss beneath sun's golden ray,
filled with desire for you today,
one tender moment,
caught in sweet torment,
passion sent ev'ryday.

If fingers reach across sky-blue,
can they touch your hand and feel true?
A simple request,
for my heart's possessed,
it's no jest, I love you!

Blue Sunshine

In these shrouded crypts where we lay,
we wait in peace the end of day.

As blue skies turn to vibrant dusk,
inhale the sweet essence of musk.

Her bony fingers tickle me,
rattling my ribs upon her knee.

A deathly touch of late romance,
as skeletons begin their dance.

Amid the remains who gave up lust,
we have our fun but they are dust.

The eyeless gaze from on my knees,
as through the graveyard waltzes breeze

no shadows in a toothless kiss,
she gave me life in vampire's bliss.

Love's tango over ghostly stone
rampant spirits we softly moan.

Two ghastly figures chase delight
before the dawn brings the end of night.

Return to lay in endless sleep
as blue sunshine does gently weep.

Thunderstorm

As sharp thunder grows,
dark skies bring light shows;
in torrents rain flows,
flooding black streets.
What just was a road,
can't swallow this load;
too much is bestowed,
hail falls in sheets.

My trees sigh and grunt,
their leaves numb and blunt.
Above, lightning hunts-
attacks, retreats.
I watch from inside
how cloud-ships collide
till forces subside.
Night show's complete.

Gardening

In early summer's passionate arms,
my garden shows her luscious charms;
trees bearing blooms, bow low- sigh alarms.
Thousands of leaves are moved by wind's breath,
as blossoms are blown, disperse in death.
Wherever I look, green's profusion
hides the shyness of spring's allusion-
shooting weeds become an intrusion.
I'm trying in vain to keep ahead,
my work's cut out, till summer has fled.

Expecting

Orange-red, its tiny breast
puffing out a fluffy chest,
my robin searches with zest
for small sprigs to build its nest.
In spring, after winter's rest,
warm, lengthening days are best.
Parents to be before long,
birds sing their song- nests are dressed.

Sweet Captivity

Along the path of love I trail,
beneath the starlit skies so pale
across the seas you bid me sail,
for you have found my heart's detail.
My love for you, I'll never fail,
as my words oft say in email,
to sing the songs that make you smile,
and all the while love will prevail.

When on the ship I sit and think,
and see your eyes in brightness blink,
as from the chalice we both drink,
the ruby wine as dark as ink.
Your cheeks are flushed with rosy pink,
the words you say I chant lip sync,
and beg you let me in your heart
and there impart my lover's link.

My sweetest love I want to be
the girl you need upon your knee
I'm bound in chains from you to me
yet in your arms I can be free.
For love is sweet captivity,
when you can hear my heart's decree
as now I am your humbled slave
its you I crave to grasp love's plea.

Burning Leaves

Tis the season when leaves are burning,
the air, crisp and chilled, leaves me yearning
for the ancient Ones to call out my name
in darkness shout, my spirit churning.

The bonfire burns upon sacred ground,
as kindred souls gather all around,
to the Gods we give our silent prayers
the feast we share where our dreams are found.

We dance to the echoing drum beat,
around, around go our swirling feet,
and wildness of spirit song for Samhain,
where we belong our souls are complete.

The Ones of old stand so very near,
the Veil just beyond the flaming tear,
spirit fingers entwine with mortal kin,
until the early dawn's rays appear.

Cold grey ashes linger in the rain,
and my dark soul lies empty again,
as the season's wheel continues to turn
the Sun Child reborn in Yule's domain.

Cup of Memories

The old brown pot is full of hot tea,
the table on the lawn is set for three,
scones and cake come out of the pantry,
afternoon tea with gran sat by me
a pot of recall stirs deep in my heart,
when I steep a cup of memory.

El Día de los Muertos

Underneath the stars and moon,
cast the runic stones tonight,
invoke the ancient spirits
with fires lit for magic rite.

We claver with all lost souls,
and cajole in joyful voice
of fiestas for the dead
the year ahead songs rejoice

As the Sun God bids farewell,
in darkness dwells 'til winter's birth,
and light returns in Yule's fete,
celebrate across the Earth.

The besoms sweep the home free
of malignant deeds and thought
upon the dawn of the year
with no fear we start with naught.

So charge the glass, take a drink,
on the brink of old and new
the dead shall dance for awhile
and Samhain smiles upon you.

Journey to Art

They say she was born with it,
as colours fit on the boards.
The practice of many years,
hiding tears, with no rewards.

So many leave empty quills,
to pay the bills - forget art.
And those brave few who remain
face disdain, 'til they depart.

Brushes and pens leave their tracks
chalk and wax, subtle effects.
All these skills need to be learned,
talent earned, still with defects.

Picture that hangs on the wall,
she gave her all to create.
Glory at last she can claim,
speak her name in art's debate.

Behind each success hides years,
endless fears, no peace of mind.
Her legacy is her art,
from the heart, she left behind.

-----

Shades of Autumn

As autumn brings vibrant shades
the sun fades towards year's end.
Trees of green now golden red,
their leaves shed and colours blend.

Nature's brightest palette forms
in wind and storms over land,
inspired art in paint and ink
as minds think with fall at hand.

Bonfires and feasting begin,
as snowflakes spin the world white.
The end of one leads to new,
in winter's view, land so bright.

We watch in awe and wonder,
hear the thunder, lightning bolt.
Yet feel delight of seasons
year's reasons do not revolt.

-----

Spark the Flame

Each lesson learned is one small spark
that sets the mark of our flame,
Now our knowledge we should share,
with no care for love or fame.

Skills that die with their master
are forever lost to all,
one passed to another's hand
to be candid, will remain.

Let your fire of wisdom shine
as those in line want to learn
and your light will always glow
above, below, the flames burn.

-----

Waiting Room

Sad face behind magazine,
pristine room with no voices,
all waiting in silent thought,
as she's caught with no choices.

Unwanted babe, who'll ne'er smile,
another file in grey case,
no name but just a number,
to slumber without a trace.

Unseeing eyes shield the tears,
and fears of the judgemental
concealed behind a false name
she remains non-parental.

Her child taken without love,
no winged dove to take his soul,
careers cannot replace life,
and the strife she'll ne'er control.

Her soul is washed with her guilt,
the walls she built not enough,
no one warned that truth returns
and yearns against the heart's bluff.

Huaca Saqsaywaman

Come into the light , come, she said,
release the shadows from your head,
her words portrayed Mother Earth.
In stone citadels neath the stars,
draw the winds from both near and far,
inside her heart from first birth.

The songs of wise recall a time
of life and faith in reason's rhyme
under the climbing moon's light.
Sacred heart of her people call
return the lost soul from the fall
a ritual chant tonight.
