This is another very neglected and a very challenging poetry form. It
consists of two stanzas, a septet (7 lines), and a quintet (5 lines), making
the poem a total of 12 lines. There is a refrain which mimics the first phrase of the first line.
R. The Rondine has a rhyme scheme of, (R a). b. b. a. a. b. R....a. b. b. a. R. The meter is open with the French style and not bound by a rhyming pattern and is a more light and buoyant even "flashy" form of poetry which uses short lines, whereas the English is more formal and uses Tetrameter or Pentameter. Here is an example by Wesli Court. |

Rondine of the Rare Device. "if you can kiss the mistress never kiss the maid" The maid will do if your not ambitious- Why split the stalk if twigs will make the besom? Why kill the roots if one may steal the blossom? The garden is a plot of sundry pleasures Filled with winding paths and rare devices, Here a fountain, there a Grecian column- The maid will do

Maryse AchongA Rondine eh… I must give it a go Even if I can only do just one Ere the Challenge is over, and it's gone. What can I say… remiss of me I know, It seems to me my muse is on 'go slow.' I am determined though to get one done… A Rondine eh? More hours in each day would help also Each day is over before it's begun They're in a race that old moon and the sun; It's finished, do I hang my head or crow? A Rondine eh? ----- Tetelestai (Paid in full) Tetelestai… He cancelled our debt And gave us all a chance for a fresh start, And has each of our names writ in His Heart. He paid the highest price, His Life, and yet We disregard Him easily and let Ourselves be distracted… not very smart. Tetelestai… Sometimes we complain when we are beset By cares, or moreso when our apple-cart Has been capsized; we have to do our part And cling to Him, no need to fuss or fret. Sal CoraccioJust five more minutes, please I beg of you, This dream is nearly done and so am I, For if I cannot sleep I'll surely die - Besides I have some flying left to do, A lover somewhere close or perhaps two, And I can barely open up one eye - Just five more minutes. A morning's rest in bed is overdue, I've images in adequate supply and fantasies aplenty left to try; I cannot bear to bid it all adieux - Just five more minutes. |
Divena CollinsCome hold my hand, and lead me to a mystical land, of honey and spice, exotic flavours, of jasmine and rice, where tamarinds grow tall and true, with plenty of love, from me, to you as hot spices of the land entice. Come hold my hand. Lets us rejoice in love and laughter, moments are special, for you, and I, while all the stars, high up in the sky. shine down on us both, forever after, Come hold my hand. ----- Oaken Galleons The wind doth whistle thro` the night tall oakens, bend like galleons, at sea, green leafy sails, now billowing free, by gusts of nature`s cruel wanton flight. rushing through deep forest`s, in plight, a wildest fury, that just cannot appease The wind doth whistle. Darkened clouds rolling through the sky, thunderous, now bursting, to heavy rain drenching, dark forest loam once again, while still we hear, a wood pigeon cry The wind doth whistle. back to list |
Jem FarmerA breeze arises from the depths of seas, like warming ships the sun commands the sky, as eager clouds of gulls are set to fly, before darkness brings the day to its reprise. I sat upon the shore in restful ease, as gurgling waves reveal ocean's lost sigh, a breeze rises. Smooth pebbles echo sounds from dusky frieze, the faded thoughts left behind by storm's eye, and scents of leathered kelp as sweet as rye, enhance the peace beyond the tide of seas, a breeze rises. ----- ![]() Circles Of Stone Oh whisper winds across the plain, I sing to Thee, as ancient stones surround my soul with grace, in depredation look to her sweet face. a silhouette against the storm in me, on knees I plea for blessed sanctuary, her voice is calling from another place, oh, whisper winds across the plain. With no beginning there is no end; see my eyes the truth finally takes its place, contrite, my heart in Pagan love embrace, my Goddess, pray my soul still calls to Thee, oh, whisper winds across the plain. ----- Hot Summer's Night Call out my name on a hot summer's night, I am the phantom who invades your dreams, fleeting ice kisses to leave cooling streams. feel the breeze caress beneath lunar light, reach for the heights of my ceaseless delights, tender moments before your passion screams, call out my name. Bitten by love your heart is in my sight, bitter pain echoes in your heated dreams as talons pierce who cares to hear your screams, and I, queen of the night take my flight, call out my name. ----- ![]() Mystical Spirit Sleeping in the moon's grace with Death beside, a chilled embrace to ward against the night, when dreams of demonic poppies take fright, his grasp will hold whilst sleeping thoughts reside, in darker realms where my heart needs a guide I pray he stays to save me from this plight, sleeping in the moon's grace. My brother Death is a mystical sprite, who saw slumbering tears I often cried, and comes to cast the grey phantoms aside, so rest can strengthen my spirit each night sleeping in the moon's grace. ----- Sorry Will you forgive the things I do so wrong? I know I make mistakes and hurt you bad, the love I hold dear is no girlish fad, I need your smile to say that I belong, regretful days I yearn for your sweet song. each night I lay awake my heart is sad, will you forgive? Recoiling at words from a sharper tongue, as eyes implore to feel your love a tad, even though I made your sweetest heart sad, just one kiss to prove our love is still strong, will you forgive? ----- Spellbound I'm in her trance, an enchanted love spell as you hold me close in desire's silk net, we dance to mellow tones of clarinet, as crowds of jazz dancers slowly dispel, in vibrancy that mystic stories tell, my mind mislaid to all things I forget, I'm in her trance. Bewitched advances the moment eyes met, crystalline orbs where my passions now dwell, willingly spellbound as love starts to swell, charmed nerves of doubt have no reasons to fret, I'm in her trance. ----- Tantric Breath One soothing breath, inhaling peace of mind, a surge of energy to lift my soul, above the noise of life, I'm feeling whole, when life brings pain I need the time to find internal strength to let my thoughts unwind, respiring cadence, tantric trance console, one soothing breath. My solace found with city lights behind, the sweetest peach which lies in life's fruit bowl, a place to hide away, my own bolt hole, away from darker truths that seem unkind, one soothing breath. back to list |
Lori MartinIt is too late now I've stopped believing winter's chill in bones plunges far too deep in dark sorrow's blanket I lie and weep the calendar's promise was deceiving frost's minions continue their warmth-thieving while I clutch at small comforts mine to keep. It is too late for heart's joy, my happiness I'm grieving as I burrow deeper into calm of sleep no peace sown in life but in Death shall reap silence beckons so I must be leaving It is too late. -----
Liquid Day |
Ryter RoethicleA cooling breath steals the leaves As all the greens fade to yellow. The golden scene makes me mellow Chilly, short days and long autumn eves T-shirts replaced by long shirtsleeves But I know in time warmth will follow A cooling breath. Now nature no longer conceives And fields lay silent, sleeping, fallow, Burnt out forests look dark and sallow In time will change as nature receives A cooling breath. ----- Curiosity, (More than) What are those thoughts, I'm getting from you Do they speak of love and are intended for me And should I ask or else pretend I did not see? If I should act on them what would you do You see my dilemma this is a dangerous brew Would I overstep the mark, would you flee? What are those thoughts? Would I be wrong saying I wish to pursue Casting my hat, down on my bended knee And hoping and praying that you'd agree? I will admit thou art truly a heady brew. What are those thoughts? ----- Desert Sand The desert sand hides all its tales And all that's left is a rich red sea. More silent by far than water could be, As it covers up all of histories trails Time after time all searching fails. Enigmatic, retaining its mysteries The desert sand hides all. Sometimes for a while it reveals A wondrous event of yesteryear A veil drawn aside for all to see Then again it's mysteries it seals The desert sand hides all. ----- I am the wind I am the wind breathing on the land Each breath freshens, brings new life, Or a bitter wind cutting like a knife. See how the spirals twist in the sand Or wave upon wave on the strand A dead, brown sea that comes alive I am the wind. I am the wind playing on the water Scattering waves into foaming spume Turning the brightest day into gloom Or calm on which waves lightly scutter I am the wind. ----- Just A Drink At Twilight ![]() As I stood by the tree waiting for you As the twilight grew, I rested against it. Not moving allowing the mood permit A group of faeries, a peaceful looking crew Approach me offering me a brew. So thirsty, to their will I did submit As I stood by the tree. Then all of a sudden, realisation! I knew My feelings to the tree I began to transmit And through that drink began to commit Unable to stay with normal life I bade adieu As I stood by the tree. ----- There is no point There is no point to life at all if all we ever have is pain, and with each birth the same. Throughout life we pay a toll such a cost if we should fall there can be nothing to gain There is no point. In life's game we make a call sometimes there is a gain or sometimes we bet in vain and life is worth naught at all There is no point. ----- Unfair When I touch you I see you smile at me Just for a while I don't have to scheme. Instead things are certainly as they seem All plans are working as they should be. For a short while we have a loving spree Where you and I can share that dream When I touch you. No time is long enough to share with thee And just hours apart would seem extreme Yet we must spend so long apart, I scream That fate has given us both this agony When I touch you. ----- ![]() Values As I sat quietly among the eucalyptus trees I was in time joined by some special friends I ask naught of them, or even seek amends 'stead we sat and savoured the evening breeze And in this way we believe by degrees That enmity with humans will finally end, As we sat quietly. We sat and drank wine and I ate some cheese I told them how with some, childhood ends. Nodding when told how poetry transcends And we will become closer now by degrees, As we sit quietly. ----- Xtant When clouds cry it's not because they're sad They know that true love is meant. And most lovers have the right intent. They have looked down and are glad. To see love they realise things aren't bad When clouds cry. There is nothing that they need to add. They happily look down and are content Smiling happily knowing love is present When hearing spoken a love ballad Then clouds cry. back to list |
Leny Roovers![]() The Book of Forms can bring to each the poetry he yearns to learn. Aspiring poets will return to search the knowledge within reach, improving their poetic speech. It teaches meter with concern, The Book of Forms. Examples shown, we don't impeach; they're chosen carefully, in turn parameters no longer burn, bring freedom in constraint- a peach, The Book of Forms. ----- Tessa ![]() With one big leap she jumps upon my bed, gives me a fright- I was away in dreams. She bumps her head against my face and screams: wake up, you lazy human, go ahead, the sun is up, I haven't yet been fed! What happened to the day's regimes? With one big leap she has destroyed the soft embrace that spread through night skies, travelled moonlit beams to bring us both together on love's streams; now all too sudden waking broke the thread- with one big leap. back to list |
Carly SvamvourOh, chaos rules again; they brawl in wake of Saddam's fall from reign and like a cat presents its game, the roses snatched from castle walls are bouquets for the heroes all. But raging dogs must shake their claim. Oh, chaos rules again. The sun goes down, the evening call is caution - death in fire and flame. The find of jackets wired for pain and empty hangers tell it all. Oh, chaos rules again. |
Nia WynneWhen midnight mists are rolling through, by and by The sighs inside are growing still, And still in dreams rivers of love spill~ Drifting in pantomime atop linens espy The way we fit together and just why Our future molds us to it's call When midnight mists come rolling by. But live there with me, or I'll cry Making sighs bigger than mountains tall, Not from your strength or giving my all, Merely a copper penny of mine tossed goodbye, When midnight mists are rolling by. back to list |
Divena and RyterFor that certain smile, and certain kiss those loving arms, that enfold me close, a certain glance, which pleases me most, that loving touch, finding hard to resist, when you are away, you I shall miss, I would but search, from coast to coast For that certain smile. To love and play, to sing and dance, are precious moments, in every way two hearts, beat closer, every day searching together, in true romance, For that certain smile. This love This love, a vision how it finds us Joining who were as strangers Unified, forever, in this love. This love, mirrored now forever We will love throughout the ages, Two who share eternity together This love. This love, picture us a couple, Older now and much wiser, More sharing of each other Knowing that there will always be This love back to list |
