2006 Form Challenges
#14 Villanelle Sonnet

The Villanelle Sonnet started out as just an amusing variation to the Villanelle, but as can be seen from the post below it ended up as a form to be reckoned with also.
The unique thing about the Villanelle Sonnet is that the first and third lines of the first verse become the alternating final lines of the next three verses. So the choice of the first and last line is very important, and more so because in the last stanza they form a couplet and become the "Closure".
If things weren't difficult enough already, all the 2nd lines of each stanza rhyme with each other.
To make it in Keeping with French Forms, if a series of sonnets were being written, it would be normal to link the refrains, or to make it even more difficult the centre rhyme.
Here is an example of a Villanelle Sonnet with the stanza separate, but in reality will be presented as 14 lines to qualify as sonnets.

I figured it out

I'm finally giving it up, I figured it out
No longer am I going to search every way
No longer is there a need for you to shout
Each day when I wake there's a loving drought
Each time as I wake there's only pain each day
I'm finally giving it up, I figured it out
No longer will there be coffee's smell about
Breakfast shared alternate bite tasted play
No longer is there a need for you to shout
Looks devoured each other, kissed with a pout
Stolen moments, kisses took as time went astray
I'm finally giving it up, I figured it out
I'm finally giving it up, I figured it out
No longer is there a need for you to shout

With You

Sometimes its like a fairy tale
The way you love me and thats why
I want to share my life with you
You boost my morale I can't fail
For I have you to make me try
Sometimes its like a fairy tale
I happily walk on this trail
You are such a wonderful guy
I want to share my life with you
As I float on clouds that set sail
Higher and higher I can fly
Sometimes its like a fairy tale
Sometimes its like a fairy tale
I want to share my life with you.

Peace

From a rocky summit I see
Amongst green trees ponds shimmer blue
The world's at peace as it should be
Lone hawk circles, noble and free
Claiming right to unhindered view
From a rocky summit I see
A buzzing hum, a tiny bee
Dining on nectar, blossom's dew
The world's at peace as it should be
Clear air of dreams breathed in deeply
Times to come washed in golden hue
From a rocky summit I see
From a rocky summit I see
The world's at peace as it should be.

Brumal Regrets

Snow silences the meadow where we laid
as lovers, embraced under summer's sun
while clouds skated by, like floats on parade.
Forever had echoed in breaths we bade,
assured love cycled a timeless season;
fruiting enriched meadows like where we laid.
But summer faded, the tired sun strayed,
autumn's storms blighted love's amassed foison
and clouds skated by, in dismal parade.
How wretched is my memory's brigade,
fermenting heart's ache with regret's poison;
standing aside the meadow where we laid.
The clouds still skate by, in dismal parade;
snow silencing the meadow where we laid.

Dignity

So much to do so much to share
Opening the box with a heavy sigh
With each love a life of care
Love as much as you would dare.
Helping your lover with tear filled eye
So much to do so much to share
Last few months you were not there
Our love together its time is nigh
With each love a life of care
Lying on the bed I stroke your hair
True loves helps when it's time to die
So much to do so much to share
So much to do so much to share
With each love a life of care

2

Lying here on the bed together
Lying under my right forearm
The last months seem like forever
No one will separate us ever
You cannot come to any harm
Lying here on the bed together
Not remembering life together
No longer knowing who I am
The last months seem like forever
Sharing good and nasty weather
At long last I feel really calm
Lying here on the bed together
Lying here on the bed together
The last months seem like forever

3

Constant loss showing in your eye
We have shared so much as one
Your body has outlived the Ki
No longer knowing who am I
Everything in your mind has gone
Constant loss showing in your eye
Stroke my face as I start to cry
All our love has been undone
Your body has outlived the Ki
Pills we took soon closed your eyes
Breathing slows soon we'll be gone
Constant loss showing in your eye
Constant loss showing in your eye
Your body has outlived the Ki.

Missing Love?

The world is white and love is gone
Bereft of life why should it stay?
There is nothing to build upon.
Where is the beach, where is the lawn?
There is absence of life in every way.
The world is white and love is gone.
Most plants have died life is withdrawn
Even the sky is now coloured grey.
There is nothing to build upon.
But will love wait until springís dawn,
When lovers meet and say, "Good day?"
The world is white but is love gone?
The world is white but is love gone,
There is nothing to build upon?

Nature

With every chance new life will start
the simple ways that feel the earth
as one with Nature, becoming a part
Living with the earth, finding the art
feeding, nourishing, finding worth
with every chance new life will start
This simple way builds up the heart
man living with Nature is given birth
as one with Nature, becoming a part
Man should learn and become smart
follow tribal ways live with the earth
with every chance new life will start
As one with Nature, becoming a part
With every chance new life will start

Nature #9

All this was given to man and his conceit
And live in simple ways upon the Earth
Somewhere to live an abundance to eat.
Living as one with the Earth, a simple feat
Feeding, nourishing, finding out life's worth
All this was given to man and his conceit
Those who know never have to compete
Following ancient ways there is no dearth
Somewhere to live an abundance to eat.
The ancients never had need to steal or cheat
The bosom of Nature is a bountiful berth
All this was given to man and his conceit
All this was given to man and his conceit
Somewhere to live an abundance to eat.

Nature's Birth

The smell of fire is on the wind,
And a cloud of smoke hides the sun.
Nature is birthing we mustnít mind.
In the past the natives grinned,
For he and nature were as one.
The smell of fire is on the wind.
The mountain horseman you will find,
Nurtured their mountain home.
Nature is birthing we mustnít mind.
But politicians are never kind,
And all the mountain men are gone.
The smell of fire is on the wind.
The smell of fire is on the wind,
Nature is birthing we mustnít mind.

No Regrets

I DO not regret my life or lose sleep
As it passes like smoke from a chimney
And Winters cold cannot make me weep.
The lessons learned did not come cheap
Bruises and broken limbs are often costly
I do not regret my life or lose sleep.
Yet love is finally here with vows to keep
I am content with things now as they be
And Winters cold cannot make me weep.
Still you stir so many emotions deep
Not losing freshness of passions eye
I do not regret my life or lose sleep
I do not regret my life or lose sleep
And Winters cold cannot make me weep.

Out of the Void

Out of the void my love has grown,
A cosmic speck, the minutest grain.
Out of nothing a seed was sown.
Not of wood, nor steel, nor brick or stone
No roof of tile that will shelter from pain.
Out of the void my love has grown.
A pulsing heart, inside flesh and bone
Made of love, that will ever gain.
Out of nothing a seed was sown.
Two separate souls that are now one
Ever sure that it is not in vain.
Out of the void my love has grown.
Out of the void my love has grown
Out of nothing a seed was sown.

Prisoner

Like a prisoner you have me bound to you
But not with chains of hard blue steel
Not counting days and weeks till freedoms due.
There was no crime, or deed, or whistle blew
There are no prison bars, my hands to feel
Like a prisoner you have me bound to you.
Instead its bonds of love that angels brew
A wound from cupids dart that will not heal
Not counting days and weeks till freedom due.
No fear of breakout or escape, no strike or coup
My life is sealed by chance, just one deal
Like a prisoner you have me bound to you.
Like a prisoner you have me bound to you
Not counting days and weeks till freedoms due.

Sunset in Melbourne

Shadows lengthen as evening nears
The stage is right as the red sun sets
And the smoke that is dusk appears.
In time the city disappears
And in that light sites seem to melt
Shadows lengthen as evening nears
And with it manifest to fears
Still light but with this grey visette
And the smoke that is dusk appears.
To soon for other frontiers
Soon Nature will collect her debts
Shadows lengthen as evening nears
Shadows lengthen as evening nears
And the smoke that is dusk appears.

You Saved Me

Tonight you held my doubting hand,
Whilst the world I knew spun away.
You saved me in a foreign land.
Falling in love was not planned,
Promising colours instead of grey.
Tonight you held my doubting hand.
I did not want love or demand
That you would spend with me your day
You saved me in a foreign land.
I opened my mind to your plan
And happy that Iím going to stay
Tonight you held my doubting hand,
Tonight you held my doubting hand,
You saved me in a foreign land.

Some days I can't wait

Some days I can't wait patiently
Uncertainty just makes me swear
I just want you to be with me
It is not like me to wait and see
It is so difficult to bear
Some days I can't wait patiently
You call, talk to me tenderly
Of love we both want to declare
I just want you to be with me
The phones are bad as they can be
Because a storm passed over there
Some days I can't wait patiently
Some days I can't wait patiently!
I just want you to be with me!

-----

There are those days

There are those days my need for you is great
I cannot seem to function anymore
What is this for a lousy trick of Fate?
I want you here and in my present state
We wouldn't waste our time with talk before
There are those days my need for you is great
I'd have you in my bed just freshly made
We would be doing all we both adore
What is this for a lousy trick of Fate?
All we can do is wait and set the date
When we can finally be joined in core
There are those days my need for you is great
There are those days my need for you is great
What is this for a lousy trick of Fate?

A Gift Of Love

Our hearts emotions dwell in the loving writings we tell
Where tender, gentle, loving words we have expressed
He has always been there, whenever our passions swell
We begin seeing loyalty of man and womanís magical spells
Spells of loving, of caring of giving; an Angel sent and blest
Our Hearts emotions dwell in the loving writings we tell
He gave us guidance to be brave when weakness fell
we acted foolish, he comforts us when we were obsessed
He has always been there, whenever our passions swell
Our faith, our trust, our dreams are now our highest sell
Now as we still learn love centerís, our souls are pressed
Our hearts emotions dwell in the loving writings we tell
Our hearts emotions dwell in the loving writings we tell
He has always been there, whenever our passions swell

Ancient One

Ancient wings unfurled, helplessly she screamed
To find she had been caught, without a thought,
Her own mind gone and mesmerized by dreams.
The ancient one was a daevas of dreams
Fallen from the heavenliest clouds gods wrought,
Ancient wings unfurled, helplessly she screamed.
She didn't know the way or how to scheme
For she had fallen for nothing but aught,
Her own mind gone and mesmerized by dreams.
He never told her why he'd come, nor themed
Away her concerns for her darkened plight,
Ancient wings unfurled, helplessly she screamed.
Ancient wings unfurled, helplessly she screamed,
Her own mind gone and mesmerized by dreams.

I Have....(Alternate Finish)

I have an open field ahead.
Life is full of these daydream plots,
That haunt the night and bless days tread.
I have walked many miles in dread,
Some fields I found were tiny plots,
Mere spots in a scheme of few threads.
I've dreamt and died in each, then bled
From mortal wounds that cannot
Then heal, the olden daydreams shed.
I've thought dreams were so golden, said
My heart, to the trees that stand in lots,
And they told me not to embed;
What I have I should then make stead,
Polish old plots, more dreams my jots.

Missing Words

The sun is warm on lowly pine branches
Gathering rays melt away icicles,
Makes way for gladder tidings, our wishes.
On the wind a spoken prayer there brushes
Our ears with hope for a new years cycles,
The sun is warm on lowly pine branches.
A new years promise comes without patches,
Reminding us to speak softer, circles,
Makes way for gladder tidings, our wishes.
Missing nothing as the sun now reaches,
We bless thoughts as they sing on lofty sails,
The sun is warm on lowly pine branches.
The sun is warm on lowly pine branches,
Makes way for gladder tidings, our wishes.
